Yes, you definitely need a new head unit! That will allow you to actually tune that sub to its optimal frequency. After you figure out your preferred range you can tune the amp at the same frequency. You should never have to turn anything to it's max.
@frankupnxt5 ай бұрын
Yea… upgrading the door speakers may also help. Besides the head unit I would recommend shorting up your ground wire. I’m not sure what type of sun you have but I would recommend a bigger amp. 800 watts doesn’t seem enough for a 15”. But it could be the type of sun. Skar is known for putting lower power subs in boxes sold together.

Oh dear god, you don’t tune a subwoofer via the head unit you set the gains and x-over on the amp properly furthermore if you want fine adjustments you get a dsp which offers a wide range of options for your system in terms of tuning, car audio 101 touching any of the EQ on the car can mess up the audio quality, audio systems should be flat that means no frequency will be overpowering the others, imax movie theaters are flat, 20hz-20khz, a flat response is the most optimal audio quality because like i said no frequency will be louder than others, the fact people still recommend this malarkey is sad, leave the fking EQ alone on your head unit!

that's normal for AUX. It never is loud. Upgrade to a better headunit with Bluetooth. Amp settings differ between each head unit. Better headunits have a higher RCA output signal, which makes the amp require less gain. Another thing is turn your LPF up to 75-80hz. It'll give a lot more bass response, with the LPF all the way down to 50hz the amp will only allow frequencies of 50hz and lower to play through the sub. You won't hear much bass except for the lower notes. Also don't turn bass up on the headunit, that will give a dirty signal to the amp which will cause distortion and damage the sub. I got a complete Skar audio system in my car btw. I'm running TX68's all around, 2 Skar SDR 10's, RP1200 & RP75.4 amps. It sounds great
@SMOKEATER8505 ай бұрын
A head unit with dedicated subwoofer preamp outputs will make all the difference. The basic point without going into it too much is that will allow you to take the bass out of your door speakers and the treble out of your sub. That's 100% what you need, I'd recommend a mid level Pioneer head unit.
@rynev33925 ай бұрын
On the radio, put a high pass crossover on the speakers at 100hz to roll off the bass below that, should help with the speaker distortion. Add a low pass crossover to the subwoofer, experiment with 60-100hz and the slope of it to find what blends the best with the main speakers

So say play the radio and adjust Volume Offset to make louder ( I believe on mine at Zero is my loudest for each source), But check your CD, AUX and so on with some music playing on each and adjust accordingly. I had to do the same for Sirius, AUX and radio to make all equally loud. I hope it helps.. 🤞🤞

get a new head unit and as for the amp tuning, have radio volume set to the highest volume that you will be listening to and turn bass knob all the way to max. turn down your gain to lowest for now and then turn bass eq to 12 dB then play a song and while it plays slowly turn up the gain until your liking or until you hear the sub clipping. sounds good but for a 15 it should definitely be hitting harder it barely moved the rearview mirror. if you cant turn up gain as much as you want without it clipping then turn bass eq to 6 and repeat the steps

do a quick google search on using a multimeter to tune you gain, easy maths will get you close. LPF can be tuned up to around 80hz but at 50hz you are losing a ton of output due to the roll off, trust me and set an 80hz test tone on youtube and then adjust the LPF and around 80-90hz the output will be a huge increase. Leave the boost alone like you did, it should never be used like you were told. Once you adjust the LPF and make sure the headunit is also set to 80 or 100hz for roll off it will increase output wildly.

Need a new radio, but make sure when your phone is on AUX, just like Blue Tooth, turn the volume button all the way up on your phone otherwise it won’t send its full volume to the head unit. Unless you are on CarPlay, you have to use the volume buttons on your phone for Bluetooth and Aux too. The LPF tells the subwoofer what to play. If it’s turned up to 80 hertz, the subwoofer will play 80 hertz and below, it limits the top end. The Subsonic tells the subwoofer not to play below a certain frequency. In a sealed box like Chomper, you won’t need it, but in a ported box, playing far below the tuning frequency could damage the subwoofer because you could unload the voice coil and blow the subwoofer. I’d recommend about 25 hertz on the subsonic since your box is tuned around 30 hertz.

Is your amplifier gain level adjusted correctly because if its not up correctly it might not sound as loud as it should. Get a PAC ground isolator 10× the rca booster. Also is your subwoofer rca hooked to subwoofer output. Dont forget to turn your low pass filter on your Skar amplifier to 150hz. I seen that its all the way down so your only being able to play the very low frequencies. Now leave the subsonic off like how you have it set.
@petedetraglia47765 ай бұрын
150hz will sound horrible and the subwoofer itself will get out of control and boomy. 80hz is the max and the subsonic filter should be set 25hz - 30hz.The subsonic filter should always be set to the Fs of the box. Boosting RCA voltage is also risky as it can and will at mininal pop the fuse and worse case scenerio over heat the amp and kill it. If his amp is a true 800 watts at 65% gain it should be rattling the panels loose...The RMS of that subwoofer is probably 600 to 700 watts.

@Imfscrew- Just for reference, i have 30+ years of experience, in the car audio competition scene. First, what is the Model # of this deck/source unit? Second, does this unit have a dedicated Sub RCA pre-out? If this deck/source unit, has a set of Rear/Sub, RCA pre-out's, go into the Audio settings, and it should have the option of rear, or subwoofer, select subwoofer, then there should be a sub gain adjustment available, in your deck's audio settings( example: my deck's sub output adj. goes from -24 to +6 ) on the contrary to what some might think, 0 is not all the way up, and +6 is not a 6Db gain over 0.. What ever is the highest sub output level, that is what you should set it too, and adjust the amplifier gain to match that. Also in the decks settings, there should be an option for the LPF= Low pass filter settings, that should have choices like 30Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, 70Hz, 80Hz, 90Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160Hz, and or 200Hz. Most people use the 80Hz LPF setting, and run the -6Db per octave slope to smoothly blend into your full range speakers, as that is the standard for Thx certified home audio, as the x-over point, between subwoofers, and full range speakers. The volume being different using your phone( 1st make sure your phone volume is turned up), then go into the decks Audio settings, and go to Volume offset, and adjust this setting to its highest setting, or @ least higher than the radio sensitivity. This has a Cd player , you should be able to adjust your Volume offset settings to match the output of a very well recorded Cd, like Dixie Chicks, the Cd with the song, Wide Open Spaces= great Sq disc by the way. Also on your amp settings, turn your subsonic filter all the way down to off, which is not really off by the way. Then the amps LPF= Low Pass Filter, turn that all the way up to 220Hz, but only if you have LPF settings on/in your deck, then this will allow you to adjust where you want the LPF set, up front, again on your deck LPF setting i suggest 80Hz, @ -6Db per octave slope. And set your front and rear full range speakers high passed= HPF @ 120 Hz, @ -24Db per octave. Please turn down your bass settings to flat, with no bass boost. You should not need to do that after getting all of these settings, and x-over points right. Hope to get this decks model #, thanks.

Another thing to do (obviously won’t fix the head unit issues) but go on your settings in the iPhone and go to music and set equalizer to “Late Night” …. Another problem you may have is that the RCA in the head unit is for front stage and not bass. Most modern head units have a subwoofer specific RCA output, older ones won’t have that, and you’ll have to run a DSP or crossover or something of that nature… not 100% sure on that but I’m pretty certain I’ve heard that said before
