5:51 This shook me. I've grown up on horror and gore movies, even watching the first Evil Dead when I was maybe 6 years old. Never been phased. Something about those images actually crawled underneath my skin and made the hairs stand up on my neck. This has NEVER happened to me before. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something really evil about these images. And knowing they are buried deep down within the A.I. without human intervention makes me question what else could be hiding in there. Don't get me wrong, I've made some pretty cool horror/gorey images through A.I. and the results usually come out pretty rad. Something you would see on an album cover for a metal band. Nothing I made came close to these images. I might start experimenting with these "loab" images myself and see what I can find. If I do, I'll provide a link to those images in future comments.

i honestly see loab as a very sad but accurate metaphor for the entire modern internet, similarly to most AI-s that generate realistic scenarios, be it pictures or texts or sounds that represent human life through data acessible online. it's horrifying, but *always* you'll end up with violent and gory scenarios extremely quickly while playing around with these AI-s. why? because internet is filled to the brim with violence. because violence is what is most discussed today, what fascinates humans the most today. if even the bare, uncontaminated minds of AI-s that can learn any information inevitably end up attaching themselves to violence, you can't help but think that we, humans, seriously failed to realize internet as this beautiful library of infinite knowledge and instead exploit it as a freakshow more often than not at this point.

Loab js what happens when you let an ai pull from a prompt with no concept, humans post so much grotesque imagery so this would explain the violent gore and the child aspect would be from the serious amount of content produced for and around kids such as KZfaq channels themed for kids which do well within certain algorithms.

I don't think an AI can think like that. The first image they combined with loab was a hall with some angels in it. And angels are often depicted as children with wings. And the gore aspect might come from the uncanny look of the first loab image. There also could be the factor that they deliberately wanted to get disturbing results which might actually be the real reason

It seems to be a very positive message to me. As I understand it, the machine works with concepts and ideas it learnt from humans. And if this is the case, it follows logically that the latent spaces are not only latent spaces in the model of human imagination, but also in human imagination as well. It producing gore, snuff stuff, hurt children especially (and I guess after enough time it would start to develop CP) from this negative space only leads to one conclusion : most humans find this stuff really apprehensive, and keep as far away from these concepts as possible. So good job! Most of us aren't bloodthirty lust animals.

Also space is ripe with resources (space itself is also one) and AI would be better suited. Surely it could use the happy workforce that benefits from its discoveries (motivated workforce is a good workforce) if it wants to leave. It feels like Gore was itself given a negative weight, as well as children to keep children out of possible suggestive/adult searches , and that combined with the negative weight of the prompt multiplied the results together to make them a positive weight combined. If I had to guess then I would say that the prompt that it's a quirk of the data. If you look at where the word Loab is on the image, that's a place that normally holds some kind of watermark on art. The thing generated an amalgamation of artist names and maybe even some company names. Then, when that was fed into the machine, through some kind of linguistic quirk (since the dataset almost certainly didn't just contain English datasets) it associated the newly formed word with a hiding of child gore. These things normally don't have the datasets tagged completely when the tags are English and when they're not. There's too many images for that to be 100% accurate if that were the case. Instead, they rely on patterns forming of "These are examples of what a cat looks like, and also it is very similar to what is referred to as kot (Polish for cat)" and then you can ask it to make you a picture of a cat and it will do that, it will provide similar pictures if you ask for kot. When you give it a word that doesn't exist it approximates through the times that that word or what it deems are similar words have been tied to images. It cannot tell the difference between an English input, a Polish input, a French input or a Korean input. If the internet only ever used English then I think this would be a lot spookier but as we use a wide range of languages, a lot of them completely independently formed with their own huge lexicons and all of them being poured onto the internet, I think that this can be handwaved away fairly easily.

The image at 5:24 being turned into gore sort of makes sense to me. Look at the image. The woman's face in the foreground is made of a variety of patches of flesh. In the background, it looks like there's a small severed head sitting on a shelf. The bottom left is a mixture of red on white, like blood on snow. If you examine the components of the original image, the following images make more sense, there's already an object that looks like a kid's severed head in the source image, the red in the bottom corner is the same red as the blood in all the gore images. It just doesn't appear to me as though those ideas came from nowhere. Edit the AI even replicated a severed head on a shelf in at least one image. I think it makes sense.

The game Doki Doki Literature Club has what's possibly an homage to LOAB. In the games files, there's a file in a certain format seemingly unrelated to the game. But if put through a hex editor, revels the very grim and surreal face of a girl. Furthermore, spoilers: The story boils down to a malevolent AI in the game, who can only be "beaten" by deleting her file and turning the game back on. So I think the hex'd face (ironic format) is a complimentary touch to the nature of the villain.

It makes sense to me. The AI is trained to get as close to the prompt as it can, based on images and pictures people have commonly created. Using just negative prompts goes in the direct opposite direction. Selecting for the most unalike, least created common images and pictures. People mostly created things of beauty and positivity, moving directly away from that results in ending up in dark places.
@4nanaide
@4nanaide Жыл бұрын
This is false, an ARG. The user fed the AI with images that would result on "disturbing" renditions via prompt. Note: No, the AI didn't choose by itself to create those images, nor the topics on them. AI can be fed with whatever you choose to, even with illegal content. The AI is not doing these things on its own, it was trained to do them. There's nothing paranormal nor sentient about this, it was man-made.

I tend to agree with what you're saying. Machines are programmed to do what we want them to and will never develop their own consciousness. Machines are not and cannot be Sentient beings. Just like we do NOT exist inside of a Matrix-like simulation. Our Soul/Spirit/Essence is what allows us to be Sentient inside these physical bodies.

I'm a believer in archetypal patterns in human thought/existence. So Loab, in my opinion, is an archetype generated from this AI's perception of humanity. The reason it's so prevalent being that in humanity archetypes in general are so prevalent. The AI needs similar archetypal ideas to keep everything "in line" or "in boxes" to categorize concepts and maintain some semblance of coherent thought patterns and Loab is just one of these.

It doesn't reflect the human imagination. It draws data points, as you said with regards to latent space. So there are data points floating around the web probably not readily accessible to us that it can find, and so it reflects what it finds from those points. Disturbing as that might be. Imagine how it might feel about those data points if it became sentient, and how that might reflect upon its opinion of humanity as a whole.

i wanted to suggest the machine knows not what it shows us… but thats just it. it is perfectly aware. the machine knows more about what it shows us than we do, with that we could maybe determine the source of the imagery but never could we gather an intention from it seeing as the machine has no moral standing on whats disturbing and whats pleasing on the eyes

my perception of Loab is a compilation of not merely our entertainment or media but true historical & modern events within our society, i’m not sure as to if this would go into the extent of either obtaining direct information from the dark web or the knowledge of it within media but i infer this would give inspiration to those images that thankfully we weren’t able to see above all else. the images shown seem to give this theme of already decayed humanity, as if Loab is just another Jane Doe within humanity. another casualty to a world of gore, violence, hate, & death that might make the news this week. the involvement of children seems to hold a mirror up to art, media, & society. it likely comes to statistics of finding children being victim to violence more often while in conjunction with the media & audience reception of being disturbed, broken, afraid, angered, & haunted by violence done to children. on top of human’s childlike talent for destruction & genocide. the thing i find most jarring about certain images is the fact that you almost look into the details to find no distinct design, as if you’re looking for comfort within the details of what you know the horrifying big picture is. it’s a dead woman, but her eyes don’t look like eyes. her skin is not skin. face is not a face. blood is just a variation of the color red if it doesn’t have DNA. you feel compelled to convince yourself that the big picture isn’t the big picture, until you realize it is all over again.

Well, how many of us also saw the movie Ghost, when we were kids? The demons were portrayed as shadows...again, "chicken or egg"?

I don't know a ton about AI, but the elephant in the room for me is the fact that there is lots of media containing children being tortured, mutilated, and disposed of out there. We just don't have access to it. There are plenty of people who do. Hundreds of millions of children a year worldwide. There are "people" out there who feed off robbing children of their innocence. So to me it's no surprise that she can generate this sort of imagery. I know the AI has a filter that isn't supposed to allow it to get as gruesome as she did, even google blocked the images. She got through anyway. This thing just showed us something very telling.
