I ran that machine in Worcester MA. Still would be if the job paid what a heavy equipment operator in any other field makes.

That is faster than having 4 workmen load everthing into a box car.

I used to drive a LeTourneau, straddle crane and side-loader. Haven't been around piggyback operations since 1998. When I started in 89, we were still backing them on with hosteling tractors.

Wow that was a Letourneau Have not see one of those working since I left the railway in 1995 they were some fantastic machines in there day.

Yeah,im chiming in,i operated for csx in the 90's and we had letro-porters,letourneaus and taylors.i miss that job i had to move on because the work is contracted out now and the operator's only get paid a fraction of what the job should be paying.railroads looked at the liability of having their own employees ramp and unramp the intermodal trains and chose to pass the liability to contractors.

He should have had a groundman, and done a reverse pull to verify the lock. Good thing about Letro's though, you could always get that extra kick if you needed it just by turning. I ran 9090's, PC80's, 1000R, 850R, and the Letro for almost 20 years. Got out of that work in 11, now I'm in IT

I had a similar idea pop into my head when watching a video on one of the most recent "autonomous bogey" vaporware things, so it's great to know that someone else thought of using an intermodal flatcar in this way well before I did.

A good operator can load a trailer in under a minute. But still this guy is alright
