In the grand scheme of heavy music, it’s difficult to break away from the pack, let alone attract a devoted audience. It can feel like a shot in the dark, the ability to create a body of work at the right place, at the right time, but on the album “I Let It In And It Took Everything,” Loathe bridges the gap between uniqueness and impact.
Many fans will find sometime familiar within the sonic palette created by Loathe-a la Deftones meets Tim Hecker meets Meshuggah-but it stands on its own, squashing allegations of staleness or repetition. Maybe it was the ethos stated by drummer Sean Radcliffe, “Only write for yourself, and never consider what other people think of it” that helped Loathe pull their sound from the creative ether. Or maybe it was being challenged by their peers, telling them their product was incomplete, that pushed them to rethink what it was to compose an album.
As humans who struggle with self-critique and self-imposed high expectations, Loathe works as a unit in order to make decisions that best serve them as a band. They are soft-spoken, uncompromising in their art, and relentless in executing their performance. We’re proud to present: Loathe on Audiotree From Nothing.

Incorporating soft aspects to their songs is what sets loathe miles apart from other metal bands. its a contrast which makes the song sound more like a story with a question and answer while also making the heavy parts sound ultra heavy.

@@Ensource i have. however the initial comment goes in a different Direction and mentions contrasts within songs. Don't get me wrong, i really like Deftones and also really like loathe, it wasn't a criticism. loathe is indeed different, more complex and in my opinion they are better musicians but i think it's fair to say they're heavily Deftones inspired. And that Deftones also master this thing of successfully combining soft and melodic elements with heavy and agressive ones with a certain uniqueness to it. in this aspect they're bands with a same sort of personality.

I really appreciate Audiotree letting *all* members talk in the interview sections. All I ever see in video interviews are Kadeem and Erik talking - while I love both of them, I also love hearing Feisal and Sean giving insights on certain things. I also noticed Kadeem's cleans are getting better and better, hearing him harmonize with Erik on Screaming is sooo cool. I am insanely excited to see where their journey will go.

It's hard to explain, but something about the ambiance and tone of the guitars/synths on I Let It In remind me SO much of the sound of video game soundtracks in the PS1/PS2 era. Something about that cold, lonely, spacey sound that brings me right back to the those old nostalgic vibes.

I get that too! After having looked it up, apparently they're inspired partially by the works of Akira Yomaoka (Silent Hill games among many others) and other composers from that era of games, so it definitely makes sense! Not even a minute in and they're speaking facts. So much of metal is based off of trends of how music is played in their genres, it's copied and pasted and doesn't have a tendency to evolve or turn into anything else. Most metal fans abide by these rules too, they go ballistic when their favourite metal band changes their sound. These are real musicians speaking and I love them for it. Love how they express their band as a collective entity of them all, how their music is created and evolves with emotion and isn't just a brand name and band that tries desperately to maintain an edgy and generic sound and image. Loathe is as genuine as a band that you'll get in the spectrum of metal these days. So excited for the future for these dudes.

Oh man I want to hear them speak more, such wholesome bunch of dudes. I wish they would name what they named about each individual more often "inspiring". Because in the end these guys inspire each other so much, you can hear it.

7:44 When brainstorming ideas for songs: start simple/start acoustic. “You don’t want tone to bolster your idea/make it sound stronger musically than it really is.. once you start producing and figuring out the sonic quality, it naturally comes out more impactful”” Heard this said a million ways but this was beautifully put and made me rethink my creative process. these guys are really musicians, all of them. it's crazy how multifaceted each individual member is and it shows in their music. they all contribute to every part of the music, and it makes it what music played by a band is meant to be: a communal experience. it really feels like they take music back to its roots and let it soar from there.

You can tell Loathe have a bright future ahead by the way they carry themselves, how they treat each other as well as their audience and the passion they have for music. I was lucky enough to talk to them for a bit before their show late last year and the personality each one of these people have makes you feel like they’ve been your friends for ages. Big love.

I’m so glad they found their writing style and freedom of expression somewhat early on. Lots of bands have tried later on after sticking to what their label or fans expected for a while and were hit with lots of backlash. I’m not saying they didn’t get that but it’s nice that very early on they said “this is us, we write what we want and what expresses us. Take it or leave it” and it gained a lot of respect and actually opened my eyes to a genre I love but didn’t know until they showed inspiration from it

Yo, I had heard this band ONE time, when the album came out in 2021. I then heard the ambient album last year ONE time in 2022 and that’s it. Saw them with Periphery last weekend at the HOB in Anaheim and I was blown away. I couldn’t believe that I didn’t listen to them more. I bought a shirt and have been hooked on their first and second album since. I can’t wait to see their bright future unfold. Definitely made a new fan here! Much love from state side. 🙏🏽🤙🏽

I went with a friend to see Oceans Ate Alaska at Opium in Edinburgh in 2016 and Fathoms and Loathe supported. I always check supports, might find a hidden gem. As the intro to the set played for Loathe there had been some dude just sat on the floor near the stage and most people thought "what's this guy doing lol?". Band gets on stage and their first track starts. Next minute the dude still sat on the floor jumps onto stage, grabs the microphone and we're off. Kadeem certainly helped grab the attention with that, and they blew the small crowd and me and my friend away. We left more hyped on Loathe than Oceans. Fast forward to now and seeing these guys where they are now and what they've done is just amazing. Loved these guys since their beginning with the best first impression and loved all their work to now. Hyped for Spiritbox this year to see them and these guys again. Random story that doesn't matter but it was my introduction to Loathe and it seemed fitting to share. Loathe as One
