I will add...DO NOT wet your hair and put it in a ponytail. That's how mold develops within the locs...the place where the band is will take longer to dry. If you want to stretch out your locs then I would wait until it's all dry and either....A. wrap it around my head as I would when I was relaxed and we wrapped our hair at night. Or B. Doing some type of braid out on the locs with oil. Honestly, you want your locs to shrink. That helps with the loc process. When your hair matures you won't have a problem with excessive shrinkage. I would advise not to be obsessed over length and worry more about the health of the hair and being patient with the process. Let it shrink and compact so it can loc and form.

Ebony Roots you just taught me something...I always put it in a ponytail to stretch it...smh

@@emotionallytrapped2344 you can put it in a pony, just not when it's wet. It can cause breakage where the band is and also mold can develop.

I have to moisturize my hair everyday, my scalp will get dry fast, I use rose water mixed with tea tree and peppermint oil.

Hey! :) ... this is what I’ve been using too but I find that as soon as I don’t use it for a few days, my hair feels dry & brittle 😣😣😕 so I’m a bit worried that the rose water isn’t actually moisturising :/ do u know what other products we can use for moisture?

This was sooo useful. I think I'm going to go with more oil when moisturizing, rather than just dousing it with water everyday. My curl texture is super tight, so the water has really stopped the locking process, but my retwists last a few days because of that

People need to understand retwisting is just for aesthetic appeal,to look cleaned up. Retwisting has nothing to do with your hair budding or locing.

Great video Des! From a person who had coils multiple times, I can tell you they don't split. Now it depends on your hair type if they unravel in your first few washes because mines didn't.

I’m starting my locs with the two strand methods. If I wear hair wraps to school often, would that affect my locking journey?
@lilyraimey3499

Yes, it would. The hair needs space to lock or they’ll become deformed and misshapen.

You can keep your hair wrapped but just make sure you allow it to breathe while at home. It most likely won’t affect your locs, i have a lot of sisters that are newly locd & have locs and we all keep our hair wrapped/covered for spiritual beliefs. And no one has any issues , be encouraged:)

Possible a doctors visit. But I had same problem and black castor oil did wonders for me. I barely have dandruff or dry scalp. I oil my scalp every few days. And wash my hair every 2 weeks but sometimes before that if I feel like my scalp is dirty

Hey Desz, How are you? You're a godsend! I wanted to know why you prefer the palm rolling method for retwisting your locs. Is there any disadvantage to interlocking? Cause I have really thick locs (thank you again for inspiring me) and I tried to retwist using the palm rolling method and it didn't hold. The only loctitian I know only does the interlocking method so I want to be sure I'm not playing myself by going to her salon. Thank you❤
@DESZREN
@DESZREN 4 жыл бұрын
I’m doing well! Hope you are too! I like to palm roll simply because it’s easy for me and fast! Personally I don’t like interlocking because from what I’ve seen on other people’s hair, where they interlocked that part is much thinner than the rest of the loc which I think can cause problems as your hair continues to mature. If your locs are super thick then you might not have to worry about that!

I would say a minimum of 3 or 4 inches. Enough so that they won’t unravel easily!

How would you recommend putting rice water on your locs and how often?
@DESZREN
@DESZREN 4 жыл бұрын
I always put it in a spray bottle and saturated my hair with it that way. I would use to before twisting my hair or before I would do a wash n go. I would say maybe a couple times a week. Or even one time

“It Can look really matted, and I just don’t really like that look for me.” Well I’ve got news, my friend - locks are literally matted tangled hair, so maybe they just aren’t for you. Gotta embrace it.
@DESZREN
@DESZREN 4 жыл бұрын
I meant it looks more like a free form look and I don’t like that for me. It gets painful when they start to marry together at my root since I’m tender headed. I know locs are matted hair. The more I get into my journey the more I like the clean look. That’s really all
@kstephens4885
@kstephens4885 4 жыл бұрын
I get what you’re sayin.. there is a “matted” vs a loc hair look if that makes sense. I have seen some locs that have that matted look and I know that’s not what I want. There are also some locs that look dry, matted and crunchy. To me that’s more of the care of the hair then the hair type itself. I have heard Yannie the locologist explain the crunchy look on her channel.
