I had the pleasure of being there then - and now. Also was delighted to take part in the programme and provide some of the films clips.

Local radio had existed in Britain before 1967. Manx Radio (1966) for one and 2LO, 6ST, etc, in 1922 which was local to begin with until it became national

The BBC fluffed up from the start by not being on MW where the majority of the audience were to be found.

Most of the BBC local stations were only in mono on FM, even long after stereo radio became the norm - the networks were in stereo, although Radio 4 kept switching it on and off and Radios 1 & 2 timeshared their frequencies on FM - but BBC local radio stations remained resolutely mono - even when they broadcast Radio 2 or carried the Sunday chart show!
