The state of red alert continues in Stromboli following the eruption of the volcano. For INGV experts "we are in a situation of disruption to the system." Signs placed at various points on the island indicate to the population where to go in case of emergency, while an Info Point instructs visitors on the good practices to be adopted in case of emergency.
A small, new flow began late Saturday morning "from a new vent that opened around 500 m, just below the previous one," said INGV volcanologist Mauro Coltelli, adding that the flow is heading towards the sea. Even if the phenomenology "seems to be decreasing" - said Coltelli - the eruption cannot be considered over.
