This is a quick detailed humorous guide for installing Powertrax Lock Right, Monkey Grip, Aussie or Spartan lunchbox style lockers on a early 80s Toyota 4x4 pickup. Installation manual states that Nissan and Isuzu removable 3rd member style differentials are very similar setup. This would be a good installation guide for most import and domestic removable third member automotive truck and car differential's etc installing this same style lockright, monkey-grip lunch box locker, spool or similar if you can't find a tutorial for your specific application. #pumpkinyota

Ok sir I like lockers I 100% recommend a Lincoln Lock for fast results and low $ however, a factory locker like this is also a very good option.

Sweet video, I have to tear into my 93 4 Runner. The 35's have taken a toll on my pinion bearing I think. I pulled the driveling and it had no slop up or down or in an out but the preload was alot. I could twist the drive flange back and forth almost 1/2 inch before it grabbed. I got back from a 200 mile road trip and felt the pumpkin where the driveling come in at and it was hot, not like burn your hand hot but hotter then I feel it should be. I've ever torn into one yet but feel like I can do it after watching your video. I'm a pretty skilled mechanic but just never tackeld fixing one yet. I think I have 5.29 Yukon gears and some sort of locker up front. It just feels not smooth on the freeway. Like it has play when I let off the gas. I subscribed and gave a big thumbs up and enjoyed your flavor of humor. I've only had this rig for a few months now and am making it rock solid again. Just need to figure out what is weard about the rear end. Axles felt tight with no up or down play or side to side play. I don't have an impact driver to try to tighten the preload but I think that is my next step. Tighten it up a bit and see if it's better. I am looking for an e locker soon so just need to make this work for a while longer. I like your rc crawler too. I had a an 83 short box and 85 truck and now my 93 4 Runner. Love this thang. I have a 95 Geo Tracker 2 door 4x4 also. But love my Toyota. Maybe we will see ya out and about sometime I'm up in Bellingham Wa.

When you installed your lock right did you measure the gap from the carrier pin to the spacer?

Mine works just fine on the oil I use in the 83 diff

I was thought 80w90 open, LSD 75w90 or 75w140 probably should check it out just in case

That fluid looked like motor oil out of a diesel engine with a shit load of miles on it! People CHANGE your gear oil on your diffs so this carnage doesn't happen to you!

@@boosterseat631 I just ordered a Powertrax after watching your and a few other vids. A buddy has 2. Each in front of his Wrangler and FJ.. I was looking for perspective on installation... and rear axle street drive ability. In my 86 F250. Sterling rear.

I've been running these lockers front and rear for 17 years now and haven't broken one yet and I wheel it hard, on the street I just push in the clutch if I'm about to make a tight turn and coast through it. You get use to it after a while and don't even think about it eventually. Did you see the "Penrose round 2" episode?
