On March 23rd, Government of India had announced a three-week nationwide #lockdown for COVID-19 Pandemic. So, we decided to spend the time at home by making our mini #Diy #FishPond in our house or #GardenPond with live #waterfall . We used the stuffs that were already available around the house.

Make pond big bcoz this is one time you will do and often you won't do this. So make it bigger.. Have diy filter or so. Give spaces for the fishes to swim freely.. Whoever does... If the space is small then forget it......

We thought of growing some plants in the small curved area that you can see at the edge of the pond. Also that would be a small hiding place for the fishes. Thanks anyway 😊

Thats pretty cool mate, but i have a question, did u have to treat the cement you used before you put the fish into the pond so that it was safe for the fish, if u can let me know i would appriciate it many thanks

Yes you can treat the cement but we haven’t done that. We have just kept the pond filled up with water for 2 days and then changed the water before adding the fish.

Thanks! No we did not use any water proofing but just cement. We just used a polythene sheet for the waterfall 😊

The design is good but don't you think without filtration the water quality with degrade really fast. ?

We have lot of live plants in the pond which filters the water naturally. Yes adding a filter would be an addition to the filteration system but we thought of keeping the pond all natural, except the pump which we added for the waterfall. Thank you

I have a small water pond with a lot of water plants and fishes. And shrimp. The water still clean until now and its been 3 months i think. No need filtration if u have a lot of waterplants (lotus, water lily, water bamboo, etc) and add a lot of rocks in the bottom. Plus +- 100 shrimps help you clean the water

We built a fish bond using cement only but the problem is the water is gone in few minutes. We've put a lot of water proofing materials but still the same. Any idea? Thsnks

In that case I would suggest you to try using a plastic pond liner. Your cement pond might have some leakages so first try to find the leakages and brush the whole pond with a thick mixture of cement and water again. If that doesn’t work then only try the plastic liner.

So sorry unfortunately we don't have the video on that. Actually at the time of making the waterfall my brother and I were both working on the pond at the same time so we couldn't take the video. We have placed some rocks and stones one over the other and also used a plastic sheet to prevent any water leakage.

We have mollies in this pond but you can also use guppies or koi fishes. Guppies and mollies are very affordable and are very easy to maintain.

Does your pond get direct sunlight throughout the day? Sunlight increases the growth of the algae in your pond which makes the water look green so avoid direct sunlight all the time by using some shade. Floating plants, such as lilies, lotus and salvinia minimia provide shade and reduce direct sunlight in the pond to control the growth of algae. You can also use anti algae for pond but I wouldn’t actually recommend that. Hope it helps 🙌

Fast growing green plants are the best for that, try setting up a herb garden on your filter aquaponic style. also get some algae eaters

No we just added some live aquatic plants which help to filter the toxic substances from the water and keep the water clean. We keep adding water when the water level decreases.

Hi Brother! Nice pond 😊 ! Just a suggestion to keep some shed otherwise because of sunlight it will get cloudy and dirty very soon ! Sunlight & fish waste creates algae quickly.

For the waterfall we have used Windstar 18 watt submersible water pump. You can get it online from Amazon or flipkart .
