Hobo Shoestring

Күн бұрын

Starts out with a quick tour of the abandoned railroad shop then I tell the story about when I got locked in a boxcar in 1991 then a second story about how I lost my fingers.

Lucky you didn't die that day. I was train hopping with my buddy Ralph Monk when we were kids approx. 45yrs ago in South Buffalo, N.Y. and he slipped walking between the couplers on a freight train goin' about 20 mph and his head was just about to get run over & I yanked him up with one hand & saved his life. A few years ago he left a very wonderful moving comment on FB thanking me for it; that was really nice of him. Thanks for sharing with us, be safe out there Shoestring and GOD Bless.

Those were Great stories and riveting ShoeString 😎 You are Soooo lucky to just lose but 2 fingers, OUCH, Dammit 😳 😪... A teenager near me was playing on a coupler ( yeah, dumb ) and when he got knocked off the coal train, the poor lad lost his entire left side arm & leg, from the wheels... He was lucky in the respect that another train appeared in only a couple minutes on the next track as he would have surely bled to death... He recounted afterwards that he counted 104 wheels ( 26 cars ) rolled over before the end of the train... He lived through all of that just to die from being hit on his wheelchair some 10 years later... He was a neighbor of my Aunt & Uncle...

Man, I can see living this way by not having a choice, but to CHOOSE this. I've been homeless before. And the thing that strikes me most about these videos, are that most of the things that riding the rails must deal with are the same things that homeless deal with. And having been homeless before, I'd NEVER choose to go through all of that. I don't know whether to admire those who choose this, or to advise them to seek mental health. Living that life is harder than having 2 or 3 jobs. I guess you gotta respect that. Whatever it is, bless you brutha.

I worked with shipping containers. If I had to go inside, I always re closed and locked the latch closest to the hinge. Sometimes the wind would blow a door shut and If you didn't have that first latch closed on the open door, the momentum of the door moving would lock the door. No way out.

And they dropped half the train on one side of a mountain cause it was so long and we sat there all night and when I woke up man there were at least 20 camp fires. Alone the tracks. All we had was tomatoes and mustard and bread. Lol great time. I was 20 years old going to L.A. from a small town in GA. I learned alot from boxcar Floyd.

please do not open plug door cars. The reason that worker closed that door is that it can slid off the end of the track and fall off. It puts railroad works at risk of death as well as the public near crossing and station platforms. I know because it happened to someone I worked with. Those doors are around 4000 ILBs
