Wendt are now offering some pre-assembled lock pick sets of different sizes for different budgets, for those who prefer not to make sets up themselves. In the video I found a problem with the triple peak rake that Wendt have assured me is now fixed for all sets and individual peaked rakes.

Currently no price increases are planned. In fact we are always checking for ways to reduce costs while maintining or improving the quality. This made possible that most older products stayed the same price eventhough shipping/material and labour costs did go up a lot this year. :) And yes we are always trying to listen to our customers. This is the main way on how to improve.

Very nice review, thank you for sharing, it is great to see Wendt put together a few sets, if I put a set together it would be almost exactly like the novice set with the addition of a deep hook and pry bars, also I do agree that having a few with handles and a few without is a great compromise with the price consideration in mind, so out of the three sets the novice is my favorite and I would like to add it to my collection as soon as my hobby budget will allow it, well done Wendt for a job well done, and Lock Noob thanks again for the wonderful and honest review.

They look nice and I like the handles a lot. From an Australian point of view though, they're pretty expensive. The apprentice set would be over $200 from the usual exchange rate. I can get a huge set of Sparrow or Southord picks for less than that. And have. Even a large Peterson set would be comparable to that price. Definitely locksmith focused with all those extraction tools too but they are nice looking tools at the end of the day.

Good video thank you. I personally think those sets are highly overpriced. There are other comparable sets available at a mere fraction of the cost. I really like the color coded handles 😆 they would make it quick and easy to identify picks, especially if you have picks of different thicknesses. I never understood why beginner sets are small while advanced sets are larger. I found myself requiring a larger variety and selection of tools at first, but as my skills develop I use less and less tools as I become increasingly skillful with just my favorite profiles.

@todddouglass870

$113 for the apprentice set and you get 4 key extractors, does an apprentice really need key extractors? Seems overpriced for what you get. My sparrows Wizwazzle was $65 and I like the profiles better. You get 5 rakes, 4 hooks including shallow Euro, short hook, Steep Hook, and Hi-reach hook, plus a diamond and a hybrid diamond, and 18 std tension wrenches. I also like the case better. The TOK tensions wrenches are another $9.50 for a a set of 5, so $74.50 to start. This seems like a way better starter set to me and $38.50 cheaper. With the savings you can get SDEV hooks, a Lunatic and Atilla, and some 0.015" and 0.020 hooks. I do like the replaceable color coded handles on the Wendt set, but that's about it. If the Wendt Apprentice set was $75, didn't have the key extractors, and had more std tension wrenches it would be a decent deal. The handles would be the selling point. Possibly the handles are expensive to manufacture and that is why they cost so much more?

I think you'd want at least 2 handles. Even as a beginner, you're going to need a short/medium hook and a long hook often-enough that you will want handles for them both. I also think the kits are a bit short on tension tools. In my limited experience you need a way larger variety of tension tools than picks. (My main kit has 4 picks but a dozen tensioners.)

Personally I think the prices are ridiculous. For the prices they are asking you could get sets with all the handles. The tension wrenches are the lowest possible quality tension wrenches available in the market. Those black coated ones are the ones that you get with the $5 sets from wish. When I see this set all I see is a $7 starter set with fancy handles and cases. And you only yet the handles in the kit that cost over 125 bucks lol.

Just offering a visual opinion I'm sure you can relate to when seeing those black ones. And the other ones were equally plain. Again, just my opinion. Those prices are top notch prices and personally if I was to spend that much money I would want some logos engraved or some gripping teeth / ribs. I just mixed my opinion of those and with the smaller size picks and was giving an honest opinion. There have been sets that you have shown before that I have bookmarked the link because at some point when I want to buy a top dollar set I plan on going back and checking them out. This just wasn't one of those sets. I've been kind of putting my own set together little by little.

@@paulsabo7632 Thanks a lot for the feedback. The tension tools are produced from a high quality steel. The Steel is pressed into the size needed and cut to length. Then we bend, tumble and coat the tool to prevent rust. The Material itself is quite expensive as it's need to be produced to our meassurement. The hige benefit. The outer edges are nicly rounded and not "just tumbled", Eventhough we also tumble the Tensioners to remove all sharp edges. Another Option would be to cut tension tools This results in a very sharp endge and not such a nice round tensioner. The Lockpicks including handle are about 5,88€ excluding VAT. Without handle 3,28€ exlcuding VAT. Which is cheap compared to other german manufacturers. The only thing we don't do is inflate the price of a single pick in order to sell more sets. This is a practice we don't liek at all. So the saving when buying a set isn't huge but still noticeable. Mostly the Case and tensioners are "free" when you order a premade set. And I aggree a Set which is put together by your own is always the best. :)

what's the point of having 1 of few handles? Just include enough handle and charge few dollars more. I would hate to look for handle after buying this set and pay extra shipping for them. Without enough handles, they are attenuating that some are less important or useful so they don't put handles on them. If that's the case, why put in a kit (perhaps as fillers)? It's bad biz IMO.
@LockNoob

Most people only use a couple of profiles 80% of the time and the handles and screws add a few euros onto each pick. Having a couple of handles on the picks too use the most just saves money, but you could easily buy more handles to your colour choice
@Zieh-Fix
@Zieh-Fix 2 жыл бұрын
If you check for a cheaper set you might want to consider no handle sets. We included one handle mainly to show what it feels like. The benefit of our system is you can get handles at a later point and screw them on. This way a beginner can have one pick with a handle and check it out and still know they can get more handles at a later point to screw on.
