“Probably helps with pick resistance” seconds after having picked it
@archy234
@archy234 3 жыл бұрын
He had all the time to prepare and get creative, with all the tools accessible in his home (or office or wherever he films this). If you would be burglar or hired lock picker, you would have limited time and limited equipment on the spot, out of your home or office. Therefore any nonregular “unexpected” lock is a big stopping stone in my opinion.

The different strength springs add resistance against low skill attacks like raking. They dont do as much to hinder single pin picking.
@penfold7800
@penfold7800 3 жыл бұрын
...and don't forget that in this video, LPL didn't pick this flat on the desk to simulate the flat surface of a van door for example. If he did, you would have seen that pulling up on the tensioner between thumb and index finger is much trickier, and doesn't give the same feedback as just pushing up the tensioner with the thumb (as he did here). Same thing with the pick part of the tool. Bending your index finger up whilst hooking it under the picks finger knob will reduce feedback. It's possible, but a lot trickier than the way he does it here. I thought he might have made a specialised pick tool for this, with a 90 degree bend in the handle. Besides all that, to guarantee you had the right tool for a multitude of these, which are very likely to have different cores, you would need a set of lishi decoders, not just one, and that would probably be well above the budget of opportunist criminals. So, it's a very good design.

Also you have to keep in mind the tools he uses for those locks. He has ideal conditions, can move the lock however he needs to and has way more tools and especially specialized tools than even a lot of profesional locksmiths, much less regular burglars. That 30 seconds for him can turn into minute or 2 for him in actual "wild" situation and is probably 10-15 minutes to less skilled pickers.

They already do,... it comes out as a wimpy sounding squeak everytime a rank novice successfully picks a Masterlock brand lock,... which is a lot! Masterlock has never ever EVER made a legitimately good lock,... ever. *EVER!* Not even a part of a good lock without finding some ridiculous convoluted way of screwing up the rest of the lock's design.🤣

I would like to say this is one of my favorite videos of yours and I have seen quite a few. I do not know anything about lock picking but I find it fascinating how easy you make it look and i have tried a couple times to no avail. But the reason I like this video so much is the tool you used. I found a whole new understanding (visually) of the pins and the terms you use to describe what you are feeling. This was absolutley great on the visual scale. Thanks and keep making it look easy.

I currently have this very cool steel cone-shaped lock on my shed. I love that it's drill-resistant and it looks neat. It's very good except it froze up several times over the winter and I needed a hairdrier to open it. Mine has a brass core w/brass key and a blue silicone keyhole cover. The one that LPL worked on today has a different core that perhaps may be more cold weather-friendly. I put a call into Paclock to see if they have any suggestions to keep it from freezing up. If you get this, make sure your shed door design can accommodate for the two hidden bolt holes behind the lock itself. This protects against a bolt-grinding attack. Unfortunately, I could only use the hidden bolt on one side, as I had nothing to drill into behind the other side.

What Otaku said. They seem like one of the only company that still try to innovate and make life tough for thieves, and they crave LPL critics so they can improve the flaws in their locks. I mean, innovative shape against drilling, stainless steel pins, really hard to pick without a tool like the one shown AND all security pins, unbumpable, uncombable... And it LOOKS sturdy, so many thieves will try another target instead of this one since most of them won't bother with something this difficult.

They did simple but effective things to improve the security (positioning the core to defeat standard pick tools, variable strength springs, long driver pin to defeat comb picking, cone shape to divert drill bits). This on top of standard anti-pick measures makes the lock quite a bit more secure than most locks.

KZfaq doesn't do that, you did it by mistake. Probably a mis-tap/click

It's true, KZfaq doesn't do that. There could be issues/glitches on their end or your end when subscribing which causes it not to follow through. Even could be an issue when clicking something that would cause it to click the (un)subscribe button but as far as KZfaq themselves having a system in place I don't think so. they do remove dislikes and add likes, that's definite. They do censor results, thats definite. KZfaq is evil, that's definite.

This kind of lock is a good example of what happens when a company actually cares about their product and making improvements as the market needs them, compared to other companies that are just trying to make a quick buck.

I think it's really really REALLY rare to see you not only look and then pick the lock, but doing this with only complements, and even more so continuing the complements when you take it apart! That's one hell of a quality lock!
