Locomotive Shunting, Female Conductor In Charge, Train With DPU, Norfolk Southern & CSX RR In Ohio

6 Locomotives doing some railroad switching, a female conductor riding the point and a CSX freight train with DPU mid train going over an awesome trestle. These trains are in Miamisburg, Ohio. The Norfolk Southern mixed freight cut their locomotives off and ran across town to cut the last 2 locomotives off so that the could return toward Cincinnati. The conductor guided the remaining 4 locomotives back to the train so that it could continue on toward Dayton and Columbus. We see the NS train leave through Miamisburg after we see the CSX freight train across the river. I went across the river to film the CSX train with a DPU cross over an old trestle while the NS train was getting the air back up and changing crews. The CSX train was booking! Both railroads run through Miamisburg and it is possible to see both trains from a few spots near the river. I thought it was pretty cool seeing a female conductor. There are very few of them. Since I have started this channel this is only the first female conductor that I have seen and I have only filmed 2 female engineers. NS uses 160.980 and CSX uses 160.230 . How many cars were on the trains? Leave a comment below telling me how fast the trains were going and how many cars were on each train. Filmed November 3, 2021 CE. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate your support! Please leave a comment, rate up or down and PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!!

@@cczoe5585great info cool bridge 👍 check out the 1978 waverly disaster. Feburary 22 1978 a L&N freight train derailed right outside of town and a tanker car that was thought to be double walled but turned out to be single walled carrying propane gas exploded. Temps were low the first 2 days of clean up but the 3rd day the temp rose a good 30 degrees the crack opened up and the gas spread out at ground level 200x in size and no one knew what was happening all it took was a slight spark.then boom. Killing 16 including the fire chief and i believe the police chief Very very bad

Thank goodness for your ability to find the unique things in life! When I was a child, my cousin, who worked on the railroad, brought my brothers a real railroad latern -- each of them -- but he didn't give one to me. Never forgot this crap. Never liked him after that either, to this day, and I'm 60 yrs old now. So, an extra thank you, Mr Jawtooth, for pointing out the female engineer!!! Girl power! Can't let you guys have all the fun. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Sadly things were much different in your uncles day Karen. After WWII it was soon forgotten how women filled 'mens' jobs for the war effort, with distinction for the most part. It was no better in the UK. Laws can change, but people's opinions don't!! I say good luck to the lady in question too 🙂🙂

The single track girder bridge looks like it replaced a multi track truss bridge. I'd say that the current bridge is a 1970's era bridge by it's design. Good stuff!

Another great video. Thanks for posting. You featured the CSX bridge at Bear Creek. That single-track span replaced the former bridge, which was destroyed by a derailment and massive fire on the 8th of July 1986. I lived in southern Montgomery County at the time, and recall the inferno with billowing clouds of toxic white phosphorous. Massive evacuations were necessary, a hazmat disaster of epic proportions. Responding fire departments had to retreat from the scene because of explosion risk and intense heat. A continual deluge of water finally extinguished the raging blaze after six days. The environmental damage was extensive, with soil contamination and poisonous runoff into the Great Miami River. Legal actions followed for many years after. The rusted patina of the Bear Creek trestle gives it the appearance of advanced age, even though it's a mere 35 years old. Looks like it was never painted in the first place. The rather frail looking single-track design would lead you to believe it was a hastily installed temporary replacement, where a more substantial double-track bridge once carried trains on the former B&O mainline. In the era of PSR, trains of massive length and tonnage now hammer that slim structure daily, without speed restriction, in a parade of heavy trains on the Toledo sub. Somehow, the present structure meets the minimum standard and continues to pass inspection. Prizewinning infrastructure. "Start the video, son!"

Hi Brian, that concrete bridge support, reminds me of a support i saw in Burlington, Wa. It was under a combination trestle/girder bridge, crossing the Skagit River. It's on the flood plain, and had sunk about 3' into the ground, so they built a steel frame over, and around it, to support the girders, and left the half sunk concrete pier in place. Wish I had taken a picture of it ! Just want to build it into my train layout. Oh Yeah, I asked a resident, how do you pronounce the word, Ska-git, or -jit, and he said, "Well, it depends on how many drinks you have had."

Another fine video. The clarity is FANTASTIC. I would guess the supports for the trestle was reconstructed in the 1990s. The structure looks like the 1920 to 30s. The concrete abutments my guess around 1905 or so. The color and texture of the concrete is the same as the Brighton subway line located in the borough I was born in Brooklyn, NY. That part of the line was constructed on an earth embankment with trestles located on each cross street and that was done in 1904. I have a question, What type of cars are the ones that resemble tanker cars but are not? Thank you for the help. Keep up the GREAT videos. John.

My doctor as a kid was called Trestlewood Pediatrics. Right next to the train tracks. But I think it was just a branch line I don't remember seeing many trains pass while in the waiting room

the current bridge structure looks like a replacement. The concrete central pier not supporting anything suggests there was a double tracked thru truss trestle here originally.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I can also see where the concrete foundation had been added onto a long time ago. It looks like they made the concrete part wider for more tracks probably in the 1930s
