The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. The 2019 championship was won by Hyundai with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. Find out about the latest winners and champions at www.wrc.com

Loeb always said, he is no quicker than any other driver. The difference is, he is smooth and consistent. I think he was being modest as he is ultra quick, smooth into and out of every corner, and a brave driver. perfect pairing, respect.

Elena said that first thing they noticed 2003-2004 that if they want to win title, they have to accept sometimes 2nd or 3rd places.

I remember hearing a Colin McRae interview saying Loeb wasn't the fastest driver but, like you already said, he is smooth and drives consistently. Kinda like the tortoise, just keeping his pace steady while some drivers push too hard and go off or break their car.

The fact, at least to me, is that exactly to be both smooth and consistent, above all you MUST be quick: I mean: you can act smoothly with steering and brakes only if you do the right thing in the right amount in the right instant... In short... if you are PERFECT. If your reflexes, are perfect, so to make all your acts perfectly phased together And that perfection has to last the entire track, on ice, on dry, in all situations. F. ex (talking about fwd, of course) when you have to kick the brakes before an hairpin, to make the car drift (I've tried, few times, on wet) I've noticed the most critical thing is exactly the instant you choose to do it, or better, you have to synchronize it with the steering stroke, otherwise "doesn't work", you'll go straight, ok; but isn't the same with a race trimmed car... hard suspensions doesn't "warn" you, when you're about to lose grip when you're on dry, letting alone on slippery... then, at that speed, really becomes matter of tenth of seconds; plus, is not the same in all conditions... ice, dry, dirt; and in this track there are almost all of them There's no parts on dirt, but that part on ice, and downhill, from 8:25 onward (he's going quite slow, and doesn't risk anything) shows effectively the situation he's managing with: more or less like walking on glass marbles. He has for sure the skill on ice typical in the Northern Europe drivers, but a bit the anger (a smooth kind of) of a Sainz or a Mikkola, too This is his winning asset: to have both those skills, and to know as well how to dose them
@MegaVesper04
@MegaVesper04 7 жыл бұрын
It's easier to be smooth if you aren't going as fast though. Being smooth doesn't mean you are driving as fast. If a driver is driving at the same rate as others but taking smoother lines then ya, they would be the fastest for sure. Loeb and Ogier have set fastest stage times lots of times. It's not that they aren't fast, just that some drivers have shown more speed than them on some stages; however those other drivers haven't been as consistent or as ... smooth as maybe Loeb was or Ogier is. Other drivers make more mistakes and take less efficient lines at times. Being fastest is useless anyways if you can't finish the rally. Hence Colin McRae. RIP.

I am simply floored, he seems to be driving as fast as it is humanely possible throughout the video, but at the same time we never have the impression he is taking any risk; top security, it is a marathon not a 100 meter. Also, for my English speaking friends, if you listen when Elena says the condition of the road with wet (humide or mouillé), snow (neige), dry (sec). When he says sec, SB is just crushing the acceleration pedal like a maniac. WOW !!!!!!!

In my opinion Sebastien Loeb has to be the best rally racer of all time. He's won more then any other rally racer. He's just flat out nuts behind the wheel of anything with wheels. What really impresses me is the fact that he can drive like a maniac and listen to the notes given by Daniel Elena!!! And the rhythm of the notes is spot on always. This to be related to a video from Lando Norris asking his technician to shut up while he’s racing... Rallye drivers aren’t the same breed, that’s for sure!!!!

Miguel Ferrandis Perez And even worse, it simply fails to simulate rallies this way. Sure, the same or similar stages are used for years, but rallying includes unknown or barely known stages. With just twelve unique stages in the game, Dirt Rally fails to deliver this. Let's see if we'll get a Dirt Rally 2 - I certainly hope so.

I can hear and watch most of it but the only thing you cant get precise information about is the brakes. You can tell sort of by the speed and how the nose dips but not very well. it would be really cool anyway to see the info laid out in front of you to make it easier to learn from him, he has a point. Also, who the heck claimed to be an expert? Presumably he is here to learn. Like most people.

Luckily I was able to see WRC on TV when ESPN would show it and I think mav TV and I always loved it cause reminds me of when the auto industry first started but watching Seb drive is so like art but hey 9 championships in a row can it ever be done again

Brilliant! You get a co driver that speaks a foreign language, so you can ignore him !!!! Everyone, but the co driver knows, that the co driver is just there to push the car in case of crash, and no spectators around.

He's like Alain Prost. No huge risks, not the fastest on every stage but ends up winning because of consistency. It's like there's a french style of "slow and steady wins the race".

I've always said that balance is key to rally. Keep the car balanced throughout, and you decrease the risk of losing control by a few orders of magnitude. Monsieur Loeb's background in gymnastics must certainly help. :]
