lofi girl (formerly chilledcow) is a french youtube channel and music label established in 2017. it provides livestreams of lo-fi hip hop music 24/7, accompanied by a japanese-style animation of a girl studying or relaxing.
the youtube channel "chilledcow" was created by dimitri on 18 march 2015. chilledcow began streaming lo-fi hip hop music, branding it as relaxation music for those who are working or studying on 25 february 2017. the live stream was taken down by youtube between july and august 2017 for using footage of the character shizuku tsukishima studying from the animated film whisper of the heart (1995). the livestream was later reinstated with a custom animation of a girl studying. the music used in chilledcow's live streams were either released through the chilledcow label or were given permission to use by another artist. in february 2020, youtube briefly removed the channel without explanation, but reinstated it after a public backlash. the original live stream that was stopped by the take-down was 13,000 hours long, making it one of the longest videos on youtube. on 18 march 2021, six years after the creation of the channel, it was announced that the channel would rebrand from chilledcow to lofi girl. the youtube community posts explained how lofi girl had become the icon of the channel, and that it would fit as the new channel name.
cassette girl is a character created by softdon in 2018 and first seen in concept art posted on twitter. don later posted more artwork of her on newgrounds. she was originally meant to be a mascot/alias for softdon's own music label, intended to be used when don made music. however, don never created the label or music. nevertheless, cassette girl became a popular character on newgrounds, with art of her often being frontpaged. cassette girl is a robot with audio-playing abilities, described by softdon as "a humanoid/android cassette player." as shown in an early concept sketch, cassette girl can open the lower half of her face to reveal a cassette player. she also has various audio connectors and knobs on the back of her neck, shown in another concept sketch with cables plugged into the connectors. cassette girl is an upcoming character for friday night funkin'. she's been confirmed to also be selectable as a playable character in the future. she was teased alongside pico, tankman and hank j. wimbleton on the 15th of november, 2020.

Nobody involved with the project is connected to Don and their participation in the project should not be seen as endorsement of his actions. I am repulsed at the things Don has admitted to in his response and I wholeheartedly stand with Lex. Lofi Girl vs Cassette Girl will remain publicly viewable for now - if the video was unlisted or privatized, it would be reuploaded with context missing and cause unnecessary confusion, confounding what is important about the situation. It is important to acknowledge that our focus should not be on the fate of DONDRRR’s creations at this time. I love how dynamic this is, from lofi girls slow but harmful beats alongside her warm visuals to cassette girls more aggressive form of rapping paired with her cool visuals, i feel like this really represented them well, the bars were sick too, lofi girl ftw

I don't really comment to much, but man was this phenomenal! The writing is brilliant, DayumDahlia and stargirlkyu really brought personality out of these characters in a way that they haven't been given before. This is quite the creative idea for a Rap Battle and I say you pulled it off quite well. The beat while still relaxing enough with that Lo-Fi feel is still energetic enough to fit a rap battle. I also love the contrast between Cassette Girl's energy and Lofi Girl's Soft-speaking. The lyrics are nice with quite a few clever bars here and there. Plus the ending artwork is nice. I like to headcanon that these two are still chill and the battle was all in good fun. Overall great stuff!

Easily one of my favorite fan made rap battles for its supreme levels of creativity. It is fun to hear a hard beat and rappers go really at it of course. But this felt so different compared to the usual fan rap battle. As both characters have such groovy and vibing flows that still provide good disses out of the few things these genre mascots have but also represent the music they stand for. The animation very smooth and colorful, the rappers both did a great job of coming in hard but also being soothing to the ear and beats make your head go back and forth amazing stuff!

This is a masterpiece of its own. Thank you Eddie for this fabulous piece of art. Lofi Girl barely won it in my opinion, and that comes to show how good it is, my favorite rap battles often tend to be ones that are very close, and this is one of them. Dahlia and Star, you both rocked it. I adore soft voices in rap, but the harder side of Cassette made for a good balance. Additionally, I have a bias towards women rapping (in most situations). Plus I never thought I would see another Lofi Girl rap battle as someone who watched Lofi Girl vs. Kousei Arima from the SIR Rap Battles channel (which is criminally underrated, go check it out if you can), and I like this one just as much as the other. Shout out to everyone involved and I hope the rest of the year’s collection will truly remain unforgettable (including the ones that have already come out since).

I love this battle a lot. If I'm being honest, I have to give the win to Cassette Girl. Both of them did really well, but CG was better in my opinion. Her verses were very even in time and she didn't have any repeated disses. While LG was the same diss-wise, her first verse was rather short, and not to mention it seemed like she ran out of disses after 1:56 . CG managed to evenly distribute disses and actually did pretty well considering the fact that LG herself doesn't really have anything to diss considering the fact that there isn't much to her character, so CG had to attack events surrounding her and the people who made her and never went off track once. I will say though, LG did have some pretty good lines and the battle itself wasn't one-sided in the slightest. It was pretty close, but overall CG did better in my opinion. Now, we focus on the other parts of the battle. I really liked how it managed to smoothly speed up and slow down to fit the girls when they were rapping, and I also really enjoyed how the same lofi beat was used throughout the battle but had more instruments and faster drums during Cassette's parts to make it livelier and fit her more. The flow overall was really well done and Cassette's Don Demarco scheme was really clever and smooth. The beginning of Lofi's second verse was amazing as well, I like how she slowed down her lines and had a soft echo in the background to make it even more calming. The designs of the characters look incredible as well, and all of the backgrounds fit the both of them perfectly. I think the only thing I don't really like about the designs is the outlines around the eyes (All of Lofi's art has it, Cassette only has it when her eyes are closed), but honestly that's not that big of a deal. It doesn't ruin the battle at all or even make me think anything negatively about it.

I feel I may be in a minority here but I think Lofi Girl took it. I preferred her chill flows and jabs at CG. Maybe it's because I had no idea who Cassette Girl was until FNF did something with her despite me frequenting Newgrounds quite a bit years ago.
