Loft Floor Joists - Building My Log Home Pt. 15

The loft is held up by these big log joists that I will be setting into the house! These log beams are beautiful and I set them so their beauty will be observed for years as a centerpiece of this big log home. There were many challenges in this video and difficulty working at these heights without the machinery to properly lift the logs. After many hard days of work the result definitely made it all worth it!

I have the pleasure of sharing my passions for the wilderness, building, fixing and all other things interesting with my great group of KZfaq friends.
I have lived offgrid in the bush for over 3 years, but now I am moving to the next chapter in my life and am building a big log home as my next place to live. It is going to be an incredible journey building my own home. I am using logs I harvested myself and plan to do most of the work by myself. This project will be the main focus of my channel, with many other adventures along the way im sure!

I've watched you from the start. My father was a logger and had a sawmill. I started helping and then working with him since I was seven. I went on to build homes using methods from the 18th and 19th century. dismantling moving and restoring log buildings and homes. and historic restoration of homes .I'm 70 now and still working. I wanted you to know how much I enjoy watching your home come together. I can't wait to see your next video.

What you are doing looks so complicated, and you're managing to do it with such precision. You must have been a master craftsman in a previous life because it makes no sense to me that you are able to do such a great job without a lifetime of experience. You obviously have natural skill, but it's much more than that, it's as much about you as the young man you are, your personality, attitude and work ethic, that are going to make you and this project a success, and make you so dang inspirational and enjoyable to watch. I will show my 9 year old son how far you are when he gets back from fishing, his dream is to move to Alaska start a Homestead and build a log house and hunt, fish and trap. The sheer amount of work and progress that you've made by yourself is amazing, but add the hard-earned craftsmanship and it's just mind-blowing. I know your mom is proud of you, I sure would be. That was some hairy work there on those floor joists, I was on the edge of my seat there a few times. Those flared logs are spectacular, well done! Watching You peeling that spruce stem brought Me back to My first days of working in the bush. We used peel popular trees then cut into 4' pulpwood for the IPpaper mill in Tupperlake, NY.

Dude, those compound dovetail joints are a thing of beauty. I can't imagine a seasoned log building veteran even giving that a try. I have no idea how you walk around with the set of balls that you have! This build excites me to no end. Excellent shit!!

Awesome job to this point in the project. You are truly a craftsman worthy of the title. Dont stress about your self expectations of achieving prefection as you have both youth and ability on your side to make that happen. This home should outlast your great grand children !
