"That's the coolest thing I've ever seen" When you get those comments you start to believe you're doing something right. Let's get back to nature and have our honeybees work and provide for their queen and brood without our constant interference.
Making honey and growing brood requires an average hive / nest temperature of around 95 degrees. Every time you open up the hive / nest surely alters that temperature and gives the honeybee more work to regulate the temperature back to optimum?

18 Bees - The way I see it, I served 24 years of military service for your freedom of WHATEVER you want to do. Unless it brings harm to you or someone else, then it’s no business of anyone. And the busy bodies need to just keep their nose out of things that do not concern them or affect them in any way. It’s unfortunate that we have raised a society of tattletales. “See something, say something” doesn’t mean rat out your neighbor for raising honeybees. LoL!!!

Larry Lee’s Bee’s Amen. Before I became a citizen I had to study American history, the Bill of Rights and pay all the fees. Then I was asked to swear allegiance. I take that oath seriously.

Hello mate , great video, them marching into the entrance is always amazing to watch , I done a cutout last weekend from a neighbours front porch roof space I really would have liked to have left them there but she is allergic to bee stings so it was either me or the exterminator and I got the job just installed them into a 9 frame brood box and you never get tired of watching them march into their new house. Thank you great vlog I hope your swarm bees like there new house too .

Thanks for replying , Pete.

peter murphy that’s awesome mate. Family first. I’ve read a couple of reports on nest/hive temperatures needing to be around 95 degrees for healthy brood development and honey production. Maybe opening the hive so often isn’t really a good idea.

What’s a 9 frame brood box? An 8 frame with ground down frames to fit in an extra or a ten frame box with a 9 frame honey divider in it? Figured it’s the later but if so then im just curious why you would use that in the brood box? It’s designed for supers so the bees can draw the comb out wider, it’s real helpful for those who decap and spin frames.

I’d have to grab a few bees to send off to a lab to find out their genetics. I’m glad you asked that question. Now I’m going to do exactly that. Thank you.

The hole is way too big. You can tack a block of wood into it to leave them a 3/8" by 3" slot near the bottom. They will be able to defend the hive better that way.

In nature I film wild honeybee nests with much larger entrances and they have survived for years.

Hey buckeye. This is a study on honeybee survival. I have a regular langstroth hive for honey. My langstroth hives die every year.

@@18Bees if you keep the hive tilted at a 45 angle and plug the bottom you can unplug it to extract the honey comb while the queen and her brood will be at the top of the log hive

@@18Bees If you are in an urban area and not actively upkeeping on IPM and managing varroa your bees will die every year. That unfortunately is the state of beekeeping these days unless you keep your bees outside of the range of any other beekeepers in your area i.e. 2-4 miles. Very hard to do unless you live rural and away from agriculture and other foraging sources.
@18Bees

@@beatrichebeesandhoney6303 untrue blanket statement. these log hives are in urban settings and have survived for years. if you're a commercial company looking to commercialize the honeybee a bias can be detected. When you're not messing around with the bees the bees Nest conditions are optimum for survival. As I've said on a previous comment of yours "Why do nests survive for years in trees IN URBAN SETTINGS?"

This log hive is only for pollination and research on varroa resistance and propolis. But I’m working on a log for honey extraction.

Move. States that would do that are likely over regulating citizens lives in other ways too. Oregon is making it against the law to have small farms or backyard gardens these days. Your well does not pump up your water, the ground water belongs to Oregon. And they don't want you to use their water for your family or livestock. This does not apply to farms that are huge corporations. Oh, and they are monitoring every landowner via satellite to enforce these laws.
