I’m working on getting better and to be more accurate with the axe. Sure, there’s an esthetic aspect to it. It looks nice, and back in the day when you splinted the log only with an axe, this finish came naturally. But however, there’s some practical use as well. When this is done, the log is up side down contrary to its final position. When the cuts is done it creates a surface which is more repellent to water than if you only have the sawn surface. Did that make sense? It’s kind of hard to answer such detailed questions in English. But I’m glad to answer them. 😃🙌
