This song is small part of many of our childhoods, and for some reason holds a special place in my memory. That's by far the best rendition that I've heard so far. Great job, and thanks for sharing your gift of song. Looking forward to checking out more of your music. Cheers

My daughter when she was so young looked this song.. its so canadian...btw you sing and play so awesome.. great voice. I can't sing like you. But I can whistle it well and my new pup Rufus loves it ❤....thanks for the memories ... scott (montreal)

Your voice is a gift and thank you for sharing. Also your mandolin playing is helping me with my mandolin playing. I've slowed down the timing to see when you are picking and just plucking the notes. So glad I found you on youtube. Keep up using what you have.

Great job...not traditional though. Written by Wade Hemsworth. Wikipedia claims that he was from Brantford, Ont. but was stationed for a time on Newfoundland and learned about traditional music there.

@bbsampso yeah when they needed something as a filler if a show ran short they don't do that any more its just commericals. I also remeber they used to open the tv day with the national athem but i don't think they do that any more either

Lovely rendition here jesse! This song has been in my repertoire for many years (Anne &Kate McGarricle version) but always performed it for female singers. I toyed with the idea of performing it myself ,but couldn't find a suitable key to suit my voice.There were also gender issues with the lyric, as the song is in 1st pov as a woman's narritive.Your version handles this quagmire quite well indeed! A beautiful baritone voice, superb performance! Consider this version stolen.
