This is the first time I have ever seen one of these. I like the "no plan " concept. I always build that way. Thanks for sharing.

Great ideas..... but you need to make the height of the splitting area right at your gut..... you don't want to lift rounds higher than that.... Most peeps make this out of steel but I run a mill, so we make everything out of wood!!! LOL! Keep up the great work.... I should have looked to see if you had a follow-up before I posted this..... oh well! Cheers!!!!

Can you flat tin the top of a wood table to make it easy to slide rounds around? Would that be costly?

Andrew Felcey that's nice of you are to say. It's has been a lot of fun. I try and remind myself things change so enjoy it when it's going well. Appreciate the comment and hope things are good for you and yours. Atb

Inspired me to think about creating a location for splitting that I can feed my rounds to one side and split wood from the other, fed by large machinery and covered for rainy day fun. I’ll concentrate on getting the height right and creating some sort of metal tabling that I can load with a bucket, same height to slide rounds into the splitters mouth.

Pretty slick! That should work really well when you get the higher sides installed.

I Am Woody thanks! I spent about an hour splitting wood and this sides definitely need to go up but it was a lot more comfortable than before. Thanks for commenting, atb

I was wondering how the electric log splitter performs in winter.. Does it keep the same amount of power? have problems with seals and blow by,?? any tips for cold weather use? I just bought one over the weekend. I plan on keeping it in my small barn but it gets pretty cold out there in the winter..

The main issue that I’ve had is forgetting to close the small hydraulic fluid valve after use. We’ve had it freeze up on us because of that and ended up replacing the first one. The second one has done well in cold weather as long as it’s treated properly. I hope this helps! Cheers

@@fireballmalone1 Yes this was helpful.. I noticed that the instruction manual on mine was contradictory,,,,, in one spot it says to remove the bleed valve screw for use,,,,,, and in another spot it says to back it out at least 5 turns for use.... At first i took it out and I noticed that under load it would squirt fluid out.. so I checked the level and put the screw back in, and backed it out 5 turns and I dont see fluid coming out now.. Question,, did the first one freeze up from fluid leaking out? or water getting in?

Nice! Looks like the splitter itself might be a bit high, especially if you're lifting bigger rounds onto it. Some folks like to have the rail of the splitter (where you set the rounds) to be about knuckle height or so when standing straight with fists doubled up.

I could use both of those right now.

nwroadrat harbor freight has a pretty good deal on it. It's small but seems to do the trick. I wouldn't use my wood stove nearly as much without one.

Nice job.looks good. Real back saver. How well does the wood splitter work for you. What brand. I've been looking at the harbor freight model. noticed the chickens follow you at the end,Mine do the same.
