The claws are bone stated by the guy in charge of this hence why they get cut off. He stated he didn’t like the bone claws in wolverine origins both comics and movie because they looked too much like tree branches. He said he just sharpened them up to make them look better making them extra long bear/wolverine claws which made more sense when they get covered with adamantium to look like blades. I liked this take on Wolverine/ mutants and how they’re Vikings in the Middle Ages. Good reaction thanks guys.

In fact, the claws looking like bones makes no sense AT ALL, since claws in animals are NOT bone. So it makes more sense that they just look like large claws.

FYI, there is a cliffhanger cut-scene at the end. The choreography was phenomenal and the writing felt right for a short film. Can't wait for next one. Marvel take note.

The director said the claws are bone,he just wanted them to look like that,that's why they get cut off and regenerate.

I don't think the writer intended this to be Logan the Wolverine (Canadian). This is Logan the Wolf (Norse). Someone in the same species of bone claw mutants.

It’s bone but looks like metal cause apparently the director didn’t like the way the shape of the bone claws look. So he went with bone but in the shape of what they would look like if they were metal.

There's no reason his body couldn't deposit iron as the main inorganic mineral in his bones where ours deposits "calcium". Make that the lore and his claws could be a natural metal on par with their weapons.
