FWIW, I've had a Titan for a while now and it's never gone off track *knock on wood*. I was actually opening and closing it while watching your video without any problems. While not part of my EDC, I have carried it. It did have that "sproing" sound, but I applied a little bit of grease to the springs and that seems to have dampened the sound. May also be why it's been reliable.

You may want to go with a Taiwan made Lighting Otf. My understanding is that the Lighting Elite and 3 screw lightning is made by a different company in China. The Lighting otf that made the design popular is from a company in Taiwan the best way to identify it is by the 2 screw pocket clip.

I have a couple Lightning OTFs (not the Lightning Elite) and mine don’t have that issue with coming off the track. If you’re looking for a good budget OTF brand, CobraTec is pretty decent. A little more expensive than the Titans and Lightnings (usually between $70 and $90), but they’re professionally packaged and come with warranties. TacKnives offers some good budget OTFs as well.

I have the lighting otf with 2 screw pocket clip. I’ve had it for years. Never had a miss fire. It works great an I personally like the AUS8 it is very easy to get sharp. Mine has been used it’s a great knife especially for the price. I think the Chinese ones aren’t the same. I don’t really like otf as a knife anyway. My favorite ak74 in xhp I really love that knife

@@JonathanDawson-uo7jm I have the lighting. I haven't heard great stuff about the lighting elite. I mean for a budget blade it's amazing. It's not a coldsteel with a tri-ad lock but it does most edc stuff without any issues. The steel is Aus8 which is ok but very easy to get razor sharp. I highly recommend it. Especially if your interested in otf. It's good to have one before spending hundreds on a name brand. If you want quality I would go with kershaw. Just my opinion. Seriously though $30 is worth trying.

As much as I love Lightnings for being a very good affordable OTF, the internal blade spring tabs are their fatal flaw. I've owned three originals since they first released, and two of them are now basically gravity knives due to the spring tabs bending/breaking so the blade will no long fire. Rebending the tabs can only be done a couple times (and won't last long) before they simply shear off at the elbow from metal fatigue. Apparently they use very mild steel with no heat treat on the inner mechanism parts, and the factory bending as opposed to machining or stamping the 90-degree angle into the tabs only exacerbates their inherent weakness. I haven't tried the Elites yet; but I mean honestly I don't care about the black accents or three-screw clip as long as they've fixed the poor tab design. All the rest is cosmetic and pointless when your knife won't fire.

I’ve been carrying around a Lightning Elite for 9 months now. It’s a more solid built but instead of 2 springs on the inside, there is only one thats bit thicker. It’s Chinese made so don’t expect much though it is good for edc uses.
@J.DeLaPoer
@J.DeLaPoer 7 ай бұрын
@@skullity3896 The Chinese make some great higher end knives these days (see TwoSuns stuff for example), but yeah the first model Lightning needed a bit of improvement. Like I said though I just hope the spring tabs have been strengthened as that seems to be the weak point. I actually switched out my Lightning(s) for an AKC F-16 as my beater otf. Far better quality for slightly higher price, and has a modernized Italian stiletto aesthetic if you like that sort of design. Actually if you can find one on sale, the AKC Extreme EVO is I think the best "budget" otf out there right now. They're quite a bit pricier than a Lightning or even F-16, but the jump in materials quality and fit/finish is _huge_ and immediately noticeable. Honestly AKC should be making Microtech scared with the quality level they're putting out with most of their knives at a much lower price range... Their entire Extreme line is great stuff for the money.
