My self propelled snowblower has five forward and two reverse gears and it was stuck in high. Over the spring we had a flood. The shifter ceased up on me. This turned out to be a pretty easy fix.

Had mine go last winter, luckily it was a mild winter here in buffalo. Thanks for the video, didn’t think it’d be that easy!

A mild winter in Buffalo is only 6 feet of snow.

Thanks very much for the video. Almost exactly the same thing was wrong with mine, and I wouldn't have known how simple it was to fix without your help Mine, the hexagonal shaft wouldn't rotate even with the clutch wheel not touching the drive wheel. Same cure, pb blaster and a little time . Took me about an hour, including watching the video. Thanks again!

You do have to keep the shaft lubed, but ...DO NOT get any type of lubricant on that rubber wheel or the disc that it runs against. That's your transmission. If you get oil or grease on them, it will slip and you won't move much. If anything, you can take some brake cleaner (or just degreaser) and clean the rubber and disc off clean. You want a good positive connection between the two so the machine will move thru the snow.
@BenjaminHansen Жыл бұрын
Yep, good advice.
@philherrick73197 ай бұрын
You DO need to lube the shaft the rubber wheel slides on. If you do happen to get any lube or penetrating oil on the wheel or disc, just clean it up with brake cleaner Spray the cleaner on a rag, press the rag on the wheel and spin the wheel. Use the rag with brake cleaner to wipe off the disc

Thank you thank you thank you bought a beast of a snow blower only to get it home and it was frozen solid from rust and corrosion. Watched your video and freed up! It's skipping but at least it's engaging. Have any slipping friction plate videos lol?
@BenjaminHansen3 жыл бұрын
Skipping huh? If you got some overspray on the disk or rubber wheel, maybe it is causing the skip and will eventually get better. I feel good the video helped you. That is why I make them. Good luck with your "new to you" snow blower.

I have a old craftsman snowblower. The manual says to not get lubricant on those discs and wheels.
@punchion8 ай бұрын
Very important to lubricate the bar that the friction wheel slides on. A common problem.
@BenjaminHansen8 ай бұрын
Hey thanks! I never thought of adding it to a regular maintenance item.

Thanks. I do not, sorry. I am not sure on what adjustments would be needed.

Just bought a Toro 824 Power thrower from some unscrupulous fellows. Saw it run in 5th gear didn't check the rest. It goes into gear as far as the shifter up top however there is zero power 1-4. Would that be more of a transmission thing rather than the drive wheel being seized? Thanks
@BenjaminHansen6 ай бұрын
From what I understand, the flywheel is the transmission.

Coating the hex shaft with some lithium grease will keep this from happening.

nice video , I have a snow blower that has a reverse gear and 6 forward gears and I kept changing gears and the gear is loose now and its stuck , it won't move , I guess your not suppose to change gears too much , especially when its an old model like mine
@BenjaminHansen2 жыл бұрын
It is fairly basic. If you have a cover on yours, maybe you could take it off and see if you can figure it out. Good luck!
@sinabagherisarvestani89242 жыл бұрын
@@BenjaminHansen ya I think its easy , its just too cold to go out onw , the gear wire is loose so it probably came off of something inside
@JasonTylerRicci Жыл бұрын
Anyone know if it goes into reverse but NOT forward? I don't have any forward gears. Happened all the sudden. Yet I have reverse. Never messed with it before
@BenjaminHansen Жыл бұрын
It is usually just a piece sliding back and forth along a rod/bar. Something is holding it up and keeping it from moving for you. Take the lower inspection panel off and see how it looks. It may be a simple fix.
@andyyerbich44172 жыл бұрын
If the snowblower is stuck between gears it probably could use some grease!

Mines really jammed, nothing is able to release it. sprayed it for several hours and still won't move side to side
@BenjaminHansen3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, the hand lever is not keeping it from moving is it? Mine was pretty stuck, but after I saw it start to move, i kept at it and she gave way. Make sure no other linkage is keeping it from moving. Good luck.

Mine is so seazed that can't do anything.I tryed even with torch... nothing.
@BenjaminHansen Жыл бұрын
Maybe clean up what you can with a wire brush or wire wheel and then spray it with penetrant like PB Blaster and tap it back and forth with a hammer. Spray it again and let it sit for a day. Repeat until it loosens up for you. Then it will be ready for next year. Good luck!
@slowmo0925 Жыл бұрын
@@BenjaminHansen thank you for quick response. I appreciate...I tryed spreying, even left couple of days soaking with bluster fluid in and around...I took everything appart...torched hot and tryed with hammer...nothing.I think the only thing is left to do is to get a new hex bar,if I can find one, and the whole assy that slides...This thing seated dry for a very long time,my guess.It is literally welded.Uh. It is Murray 24/8 with Tacumseth engine.Very strong.

Oil on drive wheel and friction disc ,not good either...
@BenjaminHansen4 жыл бұрын
No, it isn't. A good shot of engine cleaner does well though.
