The Longhouse is the only greenhouse at Logee's that is open for the public, but since I had never seen it before, I wanted to go through with Byron Martin, the co-owner of Logee's Greenhouses, to see what he had on display.

Thus far my favorite 'tours' are with Logee's. Byron is great on camera, great with the interview, and so casually knowledgeable about the plants he cares for that it's easy to understand and absorb what he's speaking.

True, he's so knowledgeable & a good communicator. I 1st saw him on a Martha Stewart show. He made fairly regular appearances - and looks about the same today as he did back then, which must've been over 10 years ago. What a great place. So glad she did a tour there. I keep wanting to go.

Byron I could listen to him all day long talk about plants and give their long Latin name! Anyone who's been lucky enough to work and those greenhouses beside him are some of the luckiest plant people in the world. Plants have always fascinated me all my life... And now that I'm 71 I'm trying to share things that I've learned through the years with other people in the plant community. I'm warning about plants that I never knew existed and my problem is I love to propagate plants and then what do I do with all these plants I've brought into the world I don't have enough space for all of them. So last fall I put all my cuttings into two hanging baskets of my pothos syngonium and philodendron. They have made beautiful hanging baskets there their own little jungle. It's a great idea people and I like growing plants that trail as the understory. For a couple years on my gardenia trees I have five but I'm not sure if some of them made it through the winter they may have dried out too much... I had strawberry begonias growing. But I think I forgot to water and I did them in and maybe the two gardenias I had them growing in. I do videos and post them trying to share my knowledge. You do a great job Summer.... keep up the great work you are another person that's so full of knowledge I love listening to you rattle off the Latin names. I have a hard time just remembering the regular common name

I love the Logee videos. Byron is an excellent speaker and I could listen to him all day long :)/ As a beekeeper I love the plants with unique flowers that have triggers or hinges that must be activated by the bee. Honey bees aren't as strong as bumblebees so they wouldn't have the weight to open the trigger of some flowers. Often though once a flower has been opened a few times its trigger opens easier. We have some flowers that when a bee pushes the trigger the flower slaps the bee either on the back or head with a pollen stamp. I'll see the returning bees with a perfect rectangular stamp on her back and know that particular flower is in bloom.

Loved the tour. Wish I could get back there again to visit. Back in the early 1970s after I had my driver's license and started collecting plants, nearly every city had at least one old "glass house", including the small town where I grew up in central Wisconsin. Sadly, they are nearly all gone now. Mostly likely not energy efficient and too costly to repair. BTW, I love circus peanuts and still buy them 🙂 Seems like Logees does not have the large variety of begonias that it once had 30 -40 years ago when I used to mail order from a paper catalog.

This was so wonderful to see. You're the perfect interviewer for these greenhouse & grower visits as you're genuinely enthusiastic, have a pleasant personality, ask smart questions & make good comments. You really know a lot about plants yourself. I'm wondering if you just learned due to curiosity & an interest in house plants, or if you may have taken courses or even pursued a degree in horticulture, & if so, where? I live just over the line from Logee's, in MA, & have wanted to go peruse those greenhouses for years, but have not made the trek yet. Maybe this year. I guess now that's the only greenhouse open to the public. Still could spend over an hour there. I really enjoyed this, especially after wanting to see it for myself for so many years. I have long been getting newsletters from Logee's, & often go to their site to see what they have available for sale. Their prices are a bit high, but plant prices have gone up everywhere these days, even for common house & garden plants. Their stock is exceptional, & I have enjoyed the videos at their website. Think I'll check & see if they have any new ones.

Hey Cheryl, really hope they open up soon so you can go see them firsthand. Really pleasant. Per your other questions (thanks for asking). I tried to address all those answers in this video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gpx9iNVynKucmGQ.html

@@summerrayneoakes What a treat that will be, to drive down to actually see Logee's, & that famous 100+ year old lemon tree, especially after having everything but grocery shopping deemed verboten, for weeks upon weeks! TY for the link. Will check it out.
