love to see a young guy cutting and skidding by hand anymore! started in the woods in 1965 used everything from horses to crawler to skidder now farm tractor cutting softwood for my own mill lots of friends had the old 230s with a jimmy love to hear them brings back memories!!

Cable & chokers. Grandpa and dad had 2 old timberjacks. One had the steering wheel, the other had the swing stick steering, gears shift between the knees. I remember my mother pulling shard of steel cable out of the old mans hands before dinner lol great video!! Best of luck down there! Stay safe!

Great video, when i was a kid my step dad was a logger up in Wyoming through out the 90's and early 00's. He had a red timber jack skidder, when i was 9 he (made) me drive that thing a little up a logging road, i was scared to death😅. This vid brought back some great childhood memories. We'd camp out up in the mountains for a month or so at a time for his logging, good times. Most people have never heard of a skidder but its still my favorite and most bad#ss machine of all time.

Holy cow, I've been waiting for videos for months, thought you quit lol. Love your vids...keep em coming. It's been mighty hot and logging is hard to handle in the heat. This year is pretty much opposite of last year precipitation wise. No market for wood here in Charlotte county till fall. Everyone has been going nuts building decks so there is a major shortage of deck lumber here. As a contractor it has been a bit of a pain in the butt lol. Corona has the world gone crazy...hope it blows over soon. Take care and keep the vids coming sir.

When I was young and just newlywed I worked in the words of northern Ontario a young guy just moved up there from West Texas and it was bitterly cold then for quite a few years I took my young family up to the bush for the week it was really good bonding time with family and just a little 10 x 16 Shack bring food and water for the week it was wonderful

Like your videos fellows . i live in the deep woods of northeast texas an i haul logs every day to the mills in valliant an idabel oklahoma across the river . i drive a big western star log truck an pull a 45 foot bunk log trailer get up at 3 or 400am an usually home around 600pm every day its some long days in the woods on the road an at the mills . good videos folks

Worked at Sanborn Machine in Waterford for 32 year’s. Building sawmill machinery. In 1984 worked for Record Lumber putting together Merle’s Mill for a year. Then went back to Sanborn until 2003.

Trees are like snowflackes, no two fall the same way. Felt like I was at work again .Timberjacks and Huskys, only way to cut hardwoods.Approve of your tailgate sharpening although I usually tighten the chain a bit first to take up some side slop. Cheers mate from Ontario.

Find a piece of 2inch pipe about 3ft long weld a 4x4 inch on the ends then two short chains. Bolt that under the arch. Then put half your cables on one side the other half on the other and let your last cable drag. Much quicker hanging your cable in the slot. Plus when pulling winch cable the slides will usually stay put

ah McCormick farms... big farm, awesome farm. worked there a couple seasons of hay there as well as another just down railroad lane outside derby. also worked at the dairy farm up by dover before the owner passed away. that was a sad downfall of a farm

Like that little skider i never ran one of those small skiders some day id like one i have farm tractors and used big skiders 360and 460 jacks good but realy tippy on side hill fater the tire the beter i found also used tj 380 that was best. I like those little john deer skiders always wanted on even though i barly log it still be nice around on the farm ive got lots of woods

You ought to look into getting one of the new Stihl 3 in one sharpeners. I decided to try one and found it well worth the money. They sharpen the cutters and drop the rakers at the same time. Be sure you get the right pitch for the chain. I use to drive a Timberjack, an older version of yours, many, many years ago. The sad thing the owner of the company was one of these guys who "ran it until it broke." That's why I left. Saying hi from NH.

Sounds like U do a little bit of everything.Its good that U dont have to rely completely on logging. We have a pretty good 18' mat log market, also rail road 8'8", tie market, here in west Wisconsin.

I've harvested lots of good Ash timber in my time and have always treated with a lot of respect as it will split so easily. Never pushing off the butt,always straight felling and limbing it before skidding it out. Presented well it demands a good price here in the UK.

Those old tj are neat old skiders love the easy in cab those 550s are all i use and i have all the big ones the more experienced i get 550 20' bar isent much i cant cut with it and i use big saws when i need i dont know if my 372 395 660 would start its ben that long i have stihl 271 i think its their 550but stihl and that is great saw so far

Where you sending your pulp and mat logs to. I was cutting hardwood in Livermore Falls and turner back in early 80’s. We sent wood to either IP or Boise. Like the huskies too. Although 550 might be a little under appreciated on large oak.

I have a 550 as well and have had nothing but trouble with it.

I did this in the hills of southwestern Wisconsin for 24 years. There are old loggers. There are bold loggers. But there are no old bold loggers. Lol

Those 550s are realy good saws hade one sense they stoped the 346 the first batch where junk but now they are awsome never owend one worked for asplundh and they saplied them and when i left it sucked giving up all my saws that were in my truck i own a stihl 361 and its actully better for what you do but id rather us a 550 xp any day i still own a good well kept 346xp but yep 550 are best saw once you get to know them had one problem where it stoped spark im like you hate hevy saws its all about sharp chain 18" bar is great unless big pine
