I completely understand why people find Twitter toxic, and it is, but to me, it's the least toxic social media. I find FB & IG more toxic, which is why I quit them years ago.

@@FranchetteQuing Honestly Twitter has always been an app full of negativity and trolling. The issue is that when Elon took over, he started allowing people to monetize the engagement they get from their tweets. And because negativity gets the most attention, the app filled immediately with accounts purposely saying the worst things possible so they could make as much money possible off each tweet. It makes the app unbearable

Facebook has become the same way. I am Old, I guess (I'm really only 35), and Facebook has remained my preferred social media site for lo these last, oh, seventeen years now, I suppose? I was never even interested in Twitter. But Facebook has steadily fallen victim to the exact same rage-bait algorithms that took over Twitter. I just want to see posts from my friends, but Facebook keeps serving me sponsored posts that are tailor-made to irritate you and get you angrily scrolling comments. It's a really unpleasant experience these days. Why did social media start trending this way? I mean, I know the why is money, but intentionally feeding your consumer base addictive poison strikes me as a weird move.

The sad thing is you actually missed something beautiful. (I did too, but I vividly remember hearing people I respect talking about how it would let them actually hear from journalists and activists on the ground in rough situations like civil wars halfway across the world communicate in real time) I guess the good news is you didn't have to watch something you loved get run into the ground by neo-nazis.

i use twitter but the part that i engage with is honestly just a bunch of chill people who are just having fun with it obviously i still see the tweets that get me upset every once in a while (usually incel men who are bullying women’s bodies) but i just ignore them and it’s pretty fun to be on

i didn't even get twitter until you-know-who took it over, and curiosity got the best of me. i wanted to see what was left of the dumpster fire. i wouldn't say it's a platform that makes me mad per se... but whenever i go on it for more than a couple minutes i start feeling a sense of doom that tells me it's time to take another long break lmao. they definitely know exactly what to show you to make you uncomfortable. at this point when i see some next level nonsensical take on twitter i just tell myself "well... it's twitter. what can i expect from the ppl left there? they're not the average person anyways" and then i go touch (or smoke) some grass
