Come along on this episode as we take a poplar log that we harvest from our farm and process it into beautiful lumber! We will be using a Stihl MS290, Woodmizer LT40 Band Sawmill, and LS Tractor to make it happen.

Nice weather for sawing, but it would be nicer for getting those logs out if the ground would freeze. Can’t have everything in your favor. Got some good looking lumber. Thanks for sharing Buddy 💪🚜👍🏻

I’m a new subscriber and am enjoying watching back many years ago we pulled a lot of heavy logs with a tractor and we always turned the blade backwards so if the front end got light we could drop the blade if needed and it didn’t cut and dig in. God Bless and stay safe!

Thanks John, I appreciate the support! That’s a good thought with the blade. It a good feeling when you bring in a few good logs with the tractor! Take care 🤠

Looks like you got some really nice piece of lumber out of them poplar logs. Ain’t nothing more aggravating than a bunch of mud… frozen ground would have been better to deal with. But sometimes we just got to deal with what we are handed. Thanks for sharing.. take care

Thanks buddy! It sure made some nice boards, the customer uses them in his axe throwing business! Pretty neat 🤠 your right, I’m about tired of the mud already. But these 50-60 degree days sure burn a lot less wood haha. Have a good one, and happy New Years!

Good evening Dave. I got a new Laptop for Christmas and haven't found all the keys yet and having a time with some of the new features and bells and whistles . Hope your Christmas was a good one around there for everyone. Our sons surgery went well and he will be transferred to Physical Rehab Center tomorrow and will be there for 2-3 weeks before they will let him come home. Your video was a great job and I know there are a lot of people out here that will rest easier when you get that road widened and packed in . You're doing a good job easing around there though. Keep up the good work and stay safe. You all Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Fred.

Hey Fred! I’m sure you’ll get the new laptop figured out soon enough, hopefully it will make the experience of watching these awesome hilltop videos even better haha! I’m glad to hear your son’s surgery went well, wishing him a fast and full recovery! As far as Christmas the girls really had a good time, Zane liked to chew on the wrapping paper but that was about the extent of it for him haha. I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas and have a Happy New Years! Take care my friend

Thanks Dean! I tell ya it’s amazing what these compact tractors are capable of doing, I really haven’t found a saw log yet that I could drag around! And your right, I feel a lot better dropping a tree knowing that all of it but the small branches will be used up. I hope you all enjoy your New Years as well, take care buddy!

New subscriber here. Loved this video and that tractor. If you can skid logs with a cable you won't have to drag that nice strap through the dirt. Been using the same cable choker for 15 years now. Happy new year brother!

Hey, thanks for checking out the channel! I sure appreciate the support. Yes I’m with ya on the choker, I usually use one but found myself wanting the convenience of just using one strap for the most of it. Took the lazy route 😂. Thanks again, Have a Happy New year also!

Holy crew, cutting into dirt embedded logs? I wonder how long your sawband kept on cutting.
@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm
@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm Жыл бұрын
🤠 yeah usually we put a bit of effort to scrape the mud off the logs before we mill but yes dirt will dull your band. Thanks for the comment, take care!

@@OhioHillTopsHobbyFarm I consider a SHARP saw band next to HOLY!! :-) It gives me the goose pimples to see ppl show little or no respect for their equipment! If in doubt, I pressure-wash my logs prior to milling.

That’s great to be that meticulous, sure will help prolong blade life. I will always just swap blades if I can feel resistance in the cut or just overall poor performance, then once I get a good 5-10 that need sharpened I’ll run them through my sharpener. Makes for a relaxing evening in the shop too 😃

nice video. found you on IG. love the tractor and the mill. that poplar has got to be half the weight of oak. curious how would that tractor have done if those were two oak pieces? very impressive. @theloghog

Good morning Bob, glad you stopped and checked out the channel! The tractor does very well skidding logs, especially if your able to get the front of the log off the ground. I had recently skidded a 12’ long 32” walnut log with no problems. I’d figure I can skid any 8-10’ log I would want to wrestle on the mill. I sure appreciate the comment, take care!
