One thing I've always thought could be a logia awakening is a sort of demi god transformation, you become the god of whatever element you ate, which allows you to change the climate of whatever area you choose. Sort of like enel's last stand transformation but to a higher scale.

Another good example of the use of Absolute Zero in a power set is Rukia's Bankai. Her Bankai unleashes a flash of Absolute Zero air and freezes a large area at that temperature, including Rukia herself, and she has to slowly precisely raise her own temperature back up in the second after she uses her Bankai to prevent fer both freezing to death from the cold, or shattering from warming up to fast. A powerful one hit kill Bankai that takes extreme control.

I’m leaning more to Logias making their elements sentient, similar to the ones shown in “Return to the Reverie” Kizaru could make solid light holograms like the ones we saw on Egghead. It would also explain Akainu and kuzan’s he’ll hound and ice pheasant attacks respectively. Edit: with the inclusion of kizaru's light clones this theory becomes more and more likely

In the absence of water emergency response teams use dirt and sand to put out flames. There’s also the fact that magma has actual mass behind it while fire doesn’t which would explain how Akainu overpowered Ace in their clash. And apparently, in the one piece world magma appears to be hotter than fire naturally. As seen with Zoro commenting that King’s fire reached the strength of magma. This is likely due to different minerals in the one piece world

I feel like the ability to control the fundamental nature of elements might go far deeper than expected. Using kuzan as an example, freezing time and space might not be the only use. Like kuma's devil fruit, it could be applied to a variety of abstract concepts, like freezing the aging process. Going deeper than that, kuzan could freeze objects midair, or even freeze the process of blood clotting, robbing someone the ability to naturally recover from wounds. And going off of the nature of burning for sabo and akainu, they could 'burn' holes in reality to create portals, or burn away feelings of fear or hesitation. Edit: as for stuff about manipulation of the environment, like changing the climate for ice to fire, I'm not sure. Manipulating the area around you seems more tailored to paramecia fruits, considering all awakened paramecias we've seen all have that in common. As far as I can see, each devil fruit classes awakening seems to be unique for each. Paramecias can change and manipulate the environment, zoan powers add a new form, so Logia's seem to have their own form of awakening too. Edit: I think a logia awakening might have multiple aspects to it's powers. Perhaps, a mashing together of multiple theories. To give you an idea, My personal theory is that an awakened logia user can transform into their element, and then forge a stronger, more powereful body using said element. In this new body, they'd have multiple new ways to manipulate their element. Id imagine, appearance wise, they'd be similair to G5; not a drastic change, but stuff like clouds around the shoulders and hair changing would be a defining trait. In this new form, they'd have all the different ways to manipulate their elements according to theories, such as: - manipulating the fundamental natures and properties of their element as stated in this video. - the ability to animate their element and grant a small level of sentience - changing the weather to suit their elements better. Essentially, they'd become a sort of demi-god to their element. Plus, I think they might be able to manipulate their element in a new form. E.G. akainu being able to solidify his magma and create volcanic rock, and even break it down to create volcanic dust. For aokiji, breaking down the ice and creating mist, and both being able to reverse it, such as using mist to freeze people solid, or creating dust clouds that rain magma. For characters like crocodile, being able to compact his sand to create sandstone, or transform the sand into gold sand or steel sand. And enel? Maybe being able to compact electrons in the air and creating storm clouds.

I've been wanting to talk about this for a long time. Mainly because I feel people keep vastly missing the mark when it comes to this topic. They all just gravitate towards changing the environment when though clearly not all awakenings work like that and logias are implied to be something else entirely. But I'll leave it at that for now. Logia grants the user to become an element of nature itself So as shown or hinted in Punk Hazard, I suspect it's like a domain expansion, where the law of the world on that dimension you expand will be changed to your Logia DF type So Akainu like Jogo domain expansion, but he just permanently change the nature of the surrounding proximity to that of volcano area Now what's the advantages here? My speculation about logia awakening: Flame = burn anything Magma = melt everything Ice = freeze everything Light = control speed? Lightning = control energy? Dark = control gravity (black hole)

My theory on logia awakening is that they change the environment permanently in a specific area. For example this makes me think Aokiji and Akainu are awakened because they permanently turned punk hazard into their environment, aokiji making one side in a perma frost and Akainu making the other side permanently volcanic. Then for some other cases such as the glint glint fruit can make a place light forever (Enies Lobby) or the Dark dark fruit can make something dark forever (Impel down). And this can be stretched further to say thriller bark was foggy because of the smoke smoke fruits awakening. I also imagine Aces fruit would make an area like Akainus side of punk hazard except no volcanos, just fire. Or the same for Monet, making aokijis side of punk hazards just with no ice.

On the One Piece Fanpage, there's a theory about how Logia Awakenings work. The writer said the other awakenings work by reversing the fruits' effects. Paramecias usually produce a substance from the body, so its awakening involves morphing objects around the user to the substance (the only exception is Robin's _Hana Hana no Mi,_ which projects her body parts on other surfaces; this is why her _Demonio Fleur_ form is often considered an awakening); when the fruit has an effect from the body instead, like Law, Kidd, or Luffy (he has a Mythical Zoan, so he's half-paramecia), then the awakened user can project his or her effect onto any surface or person (Doflamingo, who awakened his _Ito Ito no Mi,_ could only transform OBJECTS into strings, even though he's immoral enough to change people if he could; therefore awakened substance Paramecias can't change people). Since Zoan Awakenings work by having the user lose control to the primal creature within in order to become extremely strong, it can be assumed the basic Zoan functions as the user commanding the animal within for a small boost. Hm magma vs Fire what is fire... it is oxidation which needs Oxygen and some other fuel (wood/ Coal/ gasoline) to CREATE heat and light. Magma on the other hand is basically Rock that is so hot that it melted. By this the magu magu no mi indeed has with its cration of magma two things the fire lacks. 1. it requires no oxigen or fuel and 2. its basically heat and Rock. So its kind of logical that a magma user could in theory suffocate and extinguish fire. Then again Ace is never shown to require any fuel for his flames so it stands up to question if he doesn't need wood or coal/ oil to keep his flames burning (which is one half of the equation for oxygen on its own does not burn it rather helps other things burn as a oxidising agent) so does the mero mero no mi actually need oxygen to create Fire? But still the awakening could indeed be a fundamental point. Understanding what a substance is on its basis can make it way more powerful. Like well Enel and Electricity. We see him throwing around lightning and even melt gold or use Electromagentic waves as a sonar of some sort. But Electricity can do so much more. Hell our brains work on electric signals so do our muscles by becoming able to control electricity around him a user of the goro goro no mi could become able to control people (kind of like DoFlamingo did). The user could use Electrolysis to split water into oxygen and hydrogen and by that keep it from ever touching his skin. By that realizing immunity to sea water. He could split the water in the air and then use a spark to set it on fire realizing an Explosion ability. Pysics knows four fundamental forces one of which is electromagnetism. Imagine Enel canceling out the Electromagnetic forces that bind the Atoms togheter. It would work out like some kind of erasure. Speaking of the fundamental forces, an other one is gravity. So maybe there is a gravity Logia or well the Gravity fruit eaten by issoh could have a damn strong awakening. Similar we could dive into Ceaser use his gas fruit very superficial when he could in theory generate all kinds of gases with all kind of effects. Damn imagine ceaser using carbon monoxide which adsorbes on the spots meant for oxygen in the red blood celles basically suffocating a person without removing the oxygen. Or just controling the oxygen movement in the air and using a lighter to set it on fire ala Roy Mustang (Full metal alchemist) style. He would be almost a fire logia. Imagine Kizaru controling light on a fundamental basis so he can direct the light in his surroundings leading it to spare or miss the eyes of others effectively blinding them. The clones he uses are one idea of using light but imagine him creating whole spaces of illusions. But of coarse Speed is his main point. Light travels always at the max speed possible. So he has innately a super fast movement speed. Only beatable by the future sight of observation haki and moving before he even begins to move. Seeing how anticlimactic many awakenings are depicted in the sense of they are rarely super scary transformations (except for luffy and maybe lucci) but rather just suddenly new abilities never seen before like Doflamingo and Katakuri depicted... makes me believe that awakenings are more of a realization of the user about what his element is on a fundamental level and how he could use it. Paramecia seem to be able to extent their abilities on other objects around them. interestingly most of them do that already all the time with their cloths (which don't belong to their body and so should be unaffected by the fruits abilities). So they just realize hey i can transform my own molecules to this stuff i can do the same to other things. Logias would be almost the same but would go a lot deeper since their elements usually are more fundamental. And since they seem to be able to use energy of their element and use it to their advantage. Just think of Enel his ultimate attack used the Generated clouds. Why does he need those? Because he is in fact already able to not only control his own lightning but also that around him not originating from himself and by doing that multipliing his power. Same happened on Punk hazzard. They on purpose used energy to terraform the environment to create their element naturally so they can use the natural elements to boost their attacks and stamina in the fight to come.

Kizaru does this with his light clones, but still unsure if it's an awakening. This aged well tho good prediction 👌

I was always under the impression that Logia awakenings allow your element a degree of sapience. We see both Kizaru and Akainu creating living animals out of their elements during Marineford, maybe that was the awakening but we just didn’t notice

So I have a question. During Marineford there was a lot of Logia users being hit, and then at the same time some attacks passed right through them. Whitebeard specifically stabbed Aokiji through the stomach, but it did no damage, on the same hand whitebeard was able to punch Akainu. I refuse to believe that whitebeard forgot to use Haki, he knows how to fight logia’s. Jozu on the other hand punched Aokiji in the face and he stayed solid and started to bleed. Why didn’t Aokiji take any damage from whitebeard? Doffy sliced crocodiles head off, but I think he did it just to get his attention. There’s just a lot going on in Marineford that doesn’t ever get explained.
