There's a certain sound to tape which emulations have failed so far to create. A certain something that gels a mix together. The developers of tape-emulation plugins all seem focussed on introducing all the flaws and inadequacies that enthusiasts of real tape (such as myself) spend money and time to minimize, such as high W&F, tape-hiss and distortion, all the while completely missing the mark in making it just sound like real tape. I'd love to bring them into my home studio, have them listen to a well-recorded tape (be it on open-reel or cassette) and say to them 'this is what you're aiming for, not the sound of a circa 1994 £99 Sashio from Dixons'

What are you missing? The lack of headroom? The horrible frequency response even w/foo foo cobalt and stuff? The bad S/N noise? Most tape sims ad saturation and THEN all the artifacts tape is known for - w & f, dropouts etc because they all had those flaws as witnessed by the specs. Doesn't mean you have to use them. Try some soft compression and a good saturation plug-in on your master track and that's it....kill off frequency response if you want to be tape-like. But if you really want tape I have 2, 4-track reel to reel TEAC simul-sync decks for sale nobody seems to care about ! That's my proof most people actually don't care about old tape sound. LOL

It is probably the sound that signal takes on after it has gone through the electronics of a tape machine.

The Chow apps are wild. BYOD is probably my fav free fx. It’s funny I have full versions Tape Pro, Flux Pro, Beef and instead I just use the free versions Tape Cassette 2, Flux Mini 2, Roast Beef 🤣. I guess I tend to go for a quick and simple fix. For being the free versions they are powerful and of a paid quality. They can easily have a price tag.

Have yet to see anybody explain the Artificial intelligence used in chromaglow and how it reacts to your audio. When I loaded it in logic and started playing with the presets, I was unable to recognize how there was any machine learning being used to change the resulting sounds. On the surface to me it seems just like another distortion tool with a nice GUI, maybe it’s just gathering all the audio we send through it and sending it off to Apples unreleased Ai music generator, and we’re just feeding it 😂😂

I feel there's a very good reason why they've lumped it under the 'distortion' sub-menu and not created another sub-menu for 'AI Tools'...

So with tape cassette 2 I could just use it solely for the VU meters for stage gaining on all my tracks?

Unlike the others, an 808-style overdrive will have a pronounced mid-emphasis (around 1k) and a significant low-end roll off. Not a problem (especially on guitar) but worth bearing in mind

sorry for being off topic but I can’t seem to get synth one into Logic Pro for iPad does anyone else have that problem ?

Logic is only compatible with Audio Unit v3 apps. Synth One isn’t AUv3 unfortunately.

I downloaded both tape cassette 2 and Chow Tape on my MacBook Pro but there are nowhere to be found ....????, Can they be used only on an iPad?? If so, I wish you mentioned that.

They can be used on Mac and iPad. Did you actually install them after downloading?
