I feel like every person whose parents are immigrants can feel this. You were raised in a country with a certain culture and a certain perception of things and you go to your original country where your whole family is and can literally feel the disconnection, the wall between them and you. You feel alienated within your own community because you didn’t grow up the same way and some things you do can be shocking, offensive, perceived in a bad way there. That’s honestly a terrible feeling that not too many artists talk about and lolo represented so perfectly so thank you for this.

But it was none of those things, it was the PPL who I called my family. So I decided to move away and live somewhere, I'm currently looking for somewhere comfy enough for me to make it my own home. My mom had a similar experience, she moved from Denmark to Florida as a child, and at age 15 ran away from home in Florida to go to NYC since her mom was bedridden and most of the people around her (family included) were racist or otherwise assholes. Its hard to make a go of it completely on your own, but she did it, and you can too. Good luck صديق

I was probably really lost in the beats that I forgot that the lyrics actually represented a personal story of yours. Now, after watching this video instead of feeling all sexy I'll probably feel nostalgic haha I haven't experienced being /alienated/ from my roots, but I'd surely feel like I've left something behind or neglected when I finally go there. So I feel this, I feel you Lolo. All the love, this came out amazing💛

I think I finally understood... God, this is so heartbreaking 💔 "Be my protector when I cross the Sahara" Everything makes sense now... Children are pure and innocent, they can see and accept/love you for who you are. It's different when it comes to the adults in the father's family side when that father is absent and isn't there to show love and protect his daughter. (at least symbolically) Difficult to be and feel accepted. The fact that she still calls him Habibi... 💔 So vulnerable, so precious!! Much love Lolo. This only made me love the song even more. Thank you for these wonderful song and video.

i love my Arab culture and the community but it gets so hard sometimes. especially now in TikTok its so sexual but it has such a bigger meaning than u guys think. constantly told to be ashamed and compared to always feel like ur wrong and not allowed to make any mistakes bc the family name is in vain. so much trauma from childhoods for most of us. To the Arab family we are "whitewashed" and always told we would've been better to stay back home. I don't want people to think Arabs are oppressed but it is the case for a lot of us. more of sexism than oppression. my culture is beautiful but it isn't perfect just like any other culture. I love this. this is true art. I'm so sorry for anyone that was raised in a toxic/ toxic immigrant household because it does hurt a lot.

Nah the shot where the family’s reflection is in the window and the little boy reaches out for her on the other side and then chases after the car 🥺 people who feel distant to their roots can relate you can see how she feels isolated even though it’s supposed to be the place you are from, it’s like you’re a stranger

This makes me want to go visit my family in Afghanistan. Although I would feel a bit alienated (the people know right away you’re western), I want to get to know them and to learn more about my culture. It’s too bad I never got the chance to see any of my grandparents though 💔😞 Aside: I feel so sorry for Lolo, especially towards the end was so heartbreaking. This is truly one of my favourites off the album.

I can really relate to this song. My family is part of a religion called Jehovahs Witnesses but I don't want to be a part of it anymore. When I was younger I happily participated in the religion, but now things are different. That's why I can especially relate to the lines "you think I lost my faith" and "forbidden won't see you again. I chose of life of sin". I have recently come to accept myself for being queer but my mom doesn't support the LGBTQ+ so it's been really hard for me to open up to her and tell her that I don't want to be a part of her religion anymore. My mom knows I'm queer, I have no idea how, but she's made it very clear. For some reason, she has never actually talked to me about it at all. My brother doesn't want any part of the religion either and I recently hinted to him I am queer and I was so happy to hear him say that he doesn't care and he won't judge me. My other brother (who is active in the religion) was very judgmental about it when I basically just straight up told him with a very obvious hint. I'm his sister and I want him to know everything about me but to judge me and tear down my built-up acceptance in my sexuality is very thoughtless and of him, regardless of beliefs. I have nothing against Jehovah's witnesses I only have anything against my family (siblings, mother) because Jehovahs witnesses aren't supposed to be homophobic they just shouldn't support LGBTQ+ and my family is definitely quite homophobic.

This video made me cry so much when I first saw it. I've seen a lot of great North African and Arab musicians talk about their families (ex. Mahmood), but like Lolo my dad is Algerian and after one big family reunion like the one in this video (my jedda also looks like the one in the video) I never saw or heard from any of them again for years. Speaking french too I love the bilingual lyrics, but for me Lolo here is singing the language of loneliness. The image at 1:30 just breaks me down, being estranged AND in the diaspora you just have this feeling of wishing your family would have held on to you and not let you go, no matter what you grow up to be or if you can understand everything about each other. After a decade of estrangement I finally reached out to my aunt who was visiting her mother (my jedda) and asked her to translate and read a letter to her (my jedda is illerate) telling her about my life, what music I like, what I study, etc. My jedda replied saying, "no matter where my grandchildren live, I love them equally."

i didn't think I could be this connected to a bunch of visuals and a couple of lyrics... I cried from start to end tho... I am Colombian, I am not a migrant, nonetheless, I was raised in a very very catholic family. So the more I grow up and learn more about the garbage on my religion and the more I become a "sinner", the more I am disconnected to my religious roots, and the more I feel strange with my parents, with my sisters. Perhaps my reality is no as dramatic as being raised in such a contrasting environment different from the "original" roots, but still, waking up and being more and more distant ideologically, and being looked like you disappointed everyone's expectations, bruh, this song hits home.

This was the very first song I fell in love with Lolo (after stumbling this orgasmic tune from one of @Farahdukhai video in 2018). Wanted to have visuals for this sexy number for a long time. Had an impression that it could be sexy and haunting with the Sahara as a background. Instead this is exceptionally raw, genuinely sincere - simply original. I definitely understand why you waited long enough to get this done. The storyline is exceptional, you just had to capture its essence in its purest of form without a limited budget and creativity! Kudos yet again Lolo. You are remarkable and your music is life for me ❣
