A very young French doctor in science: Idriss Aberkane pushes people to proudly showcase their “Failures Degrees” since it’s a part of the growth process. I love the idea that you fearlessly share your growth process, once again avoiding social (perfection) traps. It feels a lot relatable and speaks volume ‘bout your work ethics. You’ve gained my full support mate!

this makes me feel a bit less afraid of film photography. earlier this year I shot this roll of 35mm on my slr, but it never seemed to end, decided to open the camera in total darkness and found out I somehow snapped the film from the cartridge and no place in my country develops without the cartridge (I would have to mail in to develop). Gonna try again soon, hopefully this time I don't fuck up hahaha

I'm intrigued by the progression. Part of the reason I like to start from the beginning of someone's filmography is to experience their creative journey. I'm glad I'm able to start picking out familiar traits & style choices, even recurring cast members like Jordan😁. Bad days are part of the journey & I learned a lot about your character just by your reaction to the experience you had.

Fun and true-to-life vlog. Never thought of the RB as a walk around camera, it’s pretty big and heavy. Mamiya designed and marketed that camera for portrait photographers, and maybe wedding photography. Film is such an organic medium, much more connected or grounded than digital, IMHO. Excellent video, I really enjoyed seeing your journey with this camera and film. Looking forward to seeing more.

Every issue you had with the RB I have had exactly. Except I was doing a wedding ! As the bride and groom came out of the church and the confetti was thrown, the back fell off ! And I can't tell you how many times I double exposed, due to not toggling that bloody little clip after every shot. The RZ corrected all those issues. I sold it after that wedding, and like everyone I know who sells a camera, they regret it. I have a 500cm now. I'm never selling it. BTW loving your channel. Cheers from Brighton - Melbourne Australia.

With the RB67 if when turned into portrait mode the darkslide wasnt quite in it will let you fire it if you look on the darkslide you see a triangle you can pull the darkslide out to the point to fire the camera thats mainly used in a studio setting where you want to check the lights flash before taking a shot, ive had it where when ive rotated my mamiya back its moved the darkslide a little .

Yeah I’ve had this before too but I think this time was due to a couple of loose screws that weren’t hugging the back to the middle module. Seems to be sorted now 👌🏼

If your camera fires without the dark slide again, there’s a multiple exposure switch that you can turn so you can take the shot again and you don’t have to feel like you wasted the shot.

sometimes, experiments and failures are part of shooting film I guess. I recently went out to take some photos in a nearby forest, and at the end of the day I noticed my meter was set at iso800 even though I was shooting colorplus 200. A week after that, I decided to take some street photos with that same setup and in the middle of the roll, the advance lever suddenly felt weird, but I still went ahead with it. Bad idea, because since then, the camera automatically fires when I advance the film, and skips a frame. I rewinded the film and took it out mid-roll, and dropped off the camera to be serviced a couple weeks ago...

I’m currently in the process of making the switch to 120 and have film stock coming in the mail this week to start. I went with an RB67. However I only had one roll of 35mm left to shoot so the past few days I’ve spent just running that roll through my SLR. This would be the 13th or 14th roll through the camera. After developing lastnight I pull the roll up to the horrifying site of no photos on the roll AT ALL. After a brief moment of beating myself up , I deduced that it had to be either a loading error or there’s something malfunctioning on the camera. I’m still investigating. Thanks for being open to documenting your error. In some weird way it made me feel better about my own and also know what to look out for when using the RB. @jerowjpgs

Oh man! Sorry for your loss. I bulk rolled 20 rolls of black and white earlier in the year, loaded the first one in the Camera and shot it for a week. Had some nice moments, wife’s birthday etc... got to 37 frames and it kept going. Realised it never caught which I was relieved about because I thought I might have rolled all 20 wrong!

@@PhotoCinematica Yeah I’ve had that happen as well but in that situation after a couple of frames in, I noticed the handle wasn’t turning when advancing to the next shot so that was a dead give away. This situation I’m not so sure about.

I've definitely had similar experiences with the RB67. Went on a trip, shot 2 complete rolls with the mirror lockup function up and the entire time didn't trip the shutter and was only moving the mirror back and forth through the winding. Came back, developed and saw 2 completely blank rolls :( I've also dropped and cracked the back trying to replace the light seals. I literally feel you in everything that happened It's definitely a camera that needs a "checklist" to make sure everything is in place and ready to go before even trying to shoot. Love the camera but intuitive would not be how I describe it.

Its a Pro SD, if you fired a blank shot with the dark slide in you could just re-cock the shutter and pull the slide out and fire it again without having to advance the film, allowing you to expose the blank shot. The pro sd film back has a switch that allows multi exposure. You could have saved and exposed that dark slide mistake.

Really nice video! I had one of those days this summer where I had already shot some photos of my grandparents at the beach and then the film snapped inside the camera as I was rolling it forward. Turns out there was something wrong with the mechanism, but it still sucks to loose potentially really good photos of two people I love who is at high risk of dying from Covid :( But anyway, could you do a video of how you edit your photos? Because after watching this video, it seems like you edit them quite a lot and yet it doesn't look over-edited :)

You gave up waiting for a person after 15 minutes? Shhh... Ansel Adam's ghost might hear you. One of his famous photographs he set up the camera and waited. He went back to that exact spot every day for a month until he was happy and clicked the shutter. It wasn't people he was waiting for, it was the perfect cloud. Ansel Adam's ghost would have kicked you in the behind and muttered something like "phhhht. Only 15 minutes? That is nothing in the search for a satisfying photograph. 😊

You shouldn't be able to advance if you haven't taken a shot, (unless you're in multi exposure mode), so the first shot could have been saved?

I had taken the shot, but I shouldn’t have been able to because the dark slide was still in. I took it apart earlier this week and found a few loose screws... after tightening them, things seem to be working again.

In terms of editing this particular film, I feel like warming up the image defeats the purpose of this film a bit. The washed out, cold, green hue it gives, is the whole gimmick (for lack of a better phrase) of this film, surely? Though I'd definitely of retired the day after dropping the back, for sure.

@@PhotoCinematica Of course, and I agree with that completely. Mainly just where lomography charge a little bit extra being a "speciality" film. Where you can get similar results with a cheaper film stock. Though that could also be the cheap skate in me talking!
