Early Wednesday morning, July 5th, the London Fire Department, Russellville Fire Department and Crow Mountain Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire located at 20 Rolling River Lane in London’s fire district. After checking en route, RFD Engine 3 was first to arrive on scene and advised dispatch that the second story of the home was fully involved. RFD Battalion 1 advised dispatch that he had command on scene as RFD firefighters began to make an attack on the flames.
London firefighters arrived on scene and made contact with the occupants of the home to ensure everyone was out of the house and to confirm they were not injured. While speaking to the couple, firefighters observed two vehicles parked next to the residence that were being threatened by the flames. The couple advised firefighters that the keys to both vehicles were still inside the house, so in order spare the vehicles from the fire, firefighters pulled both vehicles away from the burning house by using a chain and their brush truck. A short time later London firefighters joined RFD firefighters as they battled the blaze. While the fight was underway, London firefighters set up a portable pond to begin establishing a water source and once the pond was set up, tankers began water shuttle operations, transporting water from a hydrant located at the intersection of Pleasant View Road and Wheeler Bend Road.
As the operations began, command on scene requested the response of the Crow Mountain Fire Department and advised dispatch that they needed manpower and tanker support on the scene of the blaze.
Once Crow Mountain firefighters arrived and joined the fight, firefighters from the three departments were able to begin knocking down the flames that consumed the residence.
Firefighters remained on scene working to extinguish the fire until just before lunch time on Wednesday. Despite the efforts of firefighters, the home and its contents were destroyed in the blaze.
Firefighters were able to save the two vehicles that were parked next to the house and luckily there were no injuries in the incident.
After speaking to the couple concerning the fire, it was believed that the fire may have ignited after the couple used their grill for a cookout the night before, but at the time of this story, the fire remains under investigation.
Following the arrival of Entergy, the power to the home was disconnected. After fighting the fire for over four hours, firefighters advised they were returning to their stations available for service.
Just after 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, the London Fire Department was dispatched to respond to the location for a second time after a grassfire ignited at the address following the structure fire.
After extinguishing the grassfire, London firefighters returned to their station.
The following video was captured from the scene of the fire.
