Since I was a teen in the 90s, whenever I needed to get some piece of code done quickly...Halcyon has been the only track that got the job done for me. I have this track (or some Halcyon remix) on repeat sometimes for 16-18 hours straight... After a few minutes listening to it, I stop hearing the track and go into the zone and I write hundreds (sometimes thousands) of lines of code in one sitting; the best part is that when I'm in the Orbital zone, most of the code I write tend to be better written and require less time debugging. Thank you Orbital, I owe you guys my career in software, I couldn't have lasted in this industry this long without Halcyon.

This went from being a kooky techno song to perhaps being, arguably, the most spiritual electronic song ever made by rearranging the same sounds and adding some incredible string arrangements. If not the most, then at least second with _Unfinished Sympathy_ being #1

What i love about this song, is that everytime I listen to it, it takes me on a Euphoric flashback to my amazing childhood in the 90s. They named this song "halcyon" as a reference to someone with a drug addiction to a drug of the same name, however "halcyon" literally means denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful. :)

@1lovesoni another weird thing about this song, as much as I love it, I've noticed it's the one and only song that makes me have seizures. Thing is, I love the feeling. Its incredibly Euphoric. It happens in the intro for me. It's like when they say "this song sent me somewhere else" and I'm like "no. Literally, I felt as tho I left this entire universe. The feeling is so intense, that sometimes I stop hearing the song entirely, even on full blast, theres a few moments of pure bliss where I literally can't hear, feel, or sense anything else.

I've had too stop listening to this in the car aswell. This is before I really knew what the song can do to me. I was in Nevada, driving home from work, when this amazing song came on shuffle. It was a pretty lonely drive through a mountainess area, the way the sunset was hitting it, it just looked beautiful. So I thought nothing of it, and just enjoyed the beautiful view with this beautiful song, then literally about 45 seconds into the song, I was making a sharp left turn and I felt this strange "whoa" like sensation and I felt this panicy like feeling tho also Euphoric. Before I knew it. I lost consciousness while making that turn. During the euphoria, I felt immense peace, my eyes were closed and the 1st sensation to return was this vibrating feeling going throughout my body. Then I started to feel the sensation of my hands touching the steering wheel, then thought, "what's going on, am i...Holy shit that's right, I'm driving! Wtf. I had literally forgotten I was even in a car, let alone operating it. Mind you, this whole time I'm going 45 mph. When I opened my eyes, I wasn't even on the road, I was on the dirt and seconds away from hitting a pole. I feel like I should be dead from this. I literally drove the car subconsciously because, despite not being conscience, I did infact complet the left turn, dodged traffic, rocks, cliffs, and ditches for a good minute. So long story short, this song is special to me, and I know to never listen to it in the car while driving again. Cause my gf drove a couple months later, and as passenger I tried listening to the song, and sure enough, I accidentally scared her because I was having a seizure withing 45 seconds of the song again. Idk why it happens with this song only, but I love it.

In case you're wondering, The Plastics broke up. Regina's spine healed, and her physical therapist taught her to channel all her rage into sports. It was perfect because the jock girls weren't afraid of her. Karen used her special talents to do the morning weather announcements and Gretchen found herself a new clique and a new queen bee to serve. Aaron went to Northwestern, so I still get to see him on weekends. And me? I had gone from home-schooled jungle freak to shiny Plastic to most hated person in the world to actual human being. All the drama from last year just wasn't important anymore. School used to be like a shark tank, but now I could just float. Finally, Girl World was at peace. And if any freshmen tried to disturb that peace... well, let's just say we knew how to take care of it ;-)

Forgetting nostalgia and crap, this is still easily among the best of all times. If someone would release it today it probably wouldn't be as popular because of how saturated the electronic music scene is but it would certainly be acknowledged as something amazing and memorable.

Besides the fantastic music (I've been listening to this since it came out, and the Opus III original before that) the video itself is worth a praise. I think many who grew up in the late 70s, early 80s gets a funny nostalgic feeling watching this. Not quite a memory, as a vague dream of a memory perhaps. There was still housewives, our mothers tended the house and our dads earned money, there was a kind of utopia with new, cheap, synthetic materials, polyester, vinyl and nylon, all in bright colors, or rather garish, according to contemporary palates... Greens, reds, browns, orange and yellow. I remember colorful, plastic drinking glasses, drapes with big bold flowers illuminating the kitchen, floral patterns in the vinyl floors, flower patterns on the wallpaper and caravan awnings in the summer where i bathed in red light. Everything was synthetic, maximalistic a sensory overload of colours and shapes. It was like being burnt by the sun. I can only stomach minimalistic design and monochrome colours in my environment these days, but there is a nostalgic longing for days where everything was saturated beyond the natural....

I'd call that feeling "Fauxstalgia". It takes me back to some time in the 90's, and reminds me of a place that I've never been to. It's overcast, with dark grey clouds moving quickly across the sky. There's a steady breeze blowing and it's been raining. It isn't cold but I'm still wearing a warm jacket. I'm by myself on top of a grassy hill with trees sporadically dotted across the landscape as far as the eye can see. I'm completely at peace, feeling like I'm at home.

The music video for Orbital's "Halcyon On and On" is a beautiful and ethereal journey through the human psyche. The video begins with a shot of a young woman sitting alone in a dark room. She is clearly troubled, and her eyes are filled with sadness. As the music begins to play, we see her begin to dance. Her movements are slow and graceful, and they seem to be a way for her to express her inner turmoil. As the video progresses, the woman's dance becomes more and more fluid. She begins to move in ways that seem impossible, and she seems to be floating on air. The music reaches a crescendo, and the woman's dance becomes a wild and frenzied expression of joy. The video ends with the woman collapsing to the ground, exhausted but happy. She has finally found a way to release her inner demons, and she is now at peace. The video can be interpreted in many different ways. Some people see it as a metaphor for the human journey of self-discovery. Others see it as a representation of the power of music to heal the soul. Still others see it as a simple celebration of the human spirit. Whatever interpretation you choose, there is no doubt that the music video for "Halcyon On and On" is a powerful and moving work of art. It is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for a better tomorrow. Here are some additional thoughts on the music video: * The use of color is very effective in creating a sense of mood and atmosphere. The dark and muted colors at the beginning of the video reflect the woman's sadness, while the bright and vibrant colors at the end of the video reflect her joy. * The camera work is also very well done. The director uses a variety of shots and angles to create a sense of movement and fluidity. The woman's dance is often filmed in slow motion, which gives it a dreamlike quality. * The music is, of course, the heart of the video. It is a beautiful and haunting piece that perfectly complements the visuals. Overall, the music video for "Halcyon On and On" is a stunning work of art. It is a visual and auditory feast that will stay with you long after you have seen it.

@Wololo hacyon was taken off the market because it was also slight psychadelic. benzos are for people who have a mental illness. i am bipolar and have my arsenal. but that doesnt mean i abuse or even feel that when i take them. one which would be considered boring for the pill popping kiddies. is also a mood stabilizer. its the fake pills going around that have research chems that are the problem. and NEVER just quit if you do have an addiction. reduce you dose 10% every 10 days. but for people like me, who cant take ssris, antipsychotics, or a lot of the new drugs. sometimes the older ones work better. but if you dont need them, dont take them

I read Halcyon was Golden Age, making the guy come out the sink was a bit much for such an ecstatic track, blessings.

Выжжены солнцем глаза Я не встречал красоты без боли Сожжены все мосты назад Не создать красоту без порыва воли Семьи создают детей своей любовью Дети создают будущее, как волны в море Так время течет - поколения шаг Его невозможно отмотать назад

I remember this... seen only a number of times when i was very small this video has always stood out to me throughout my early childhood for some unknown reason. To now rediscover and see this video after 20+ years gives me chills, I instantly remember the video after all that time. Crazy.

I grew up listening to this song in the 90s and remember the music video vividly but could not for the life in me find the name or artist. I was just listening to an apex twin radio and this came up and I swear I died a little and then ran to search the songs video to confirm if i finally found it ! Will play on repeat now......

This video is a tribute to the mother of Phil and Paul Hartnoll (who comprise Orbital as any fule kno). She was addicted to the tranquilizer 'Halcion' when they were young. That's why she has photos of the young Hartnoll boys by the sink.
