Hey Rob, One bit of advice, you might want to think about different boots. Two of the guys I ride with had Forma Adv boots, and both of them ended up in hospital with broken legs. Those boots are banned at a lot of events and by touring companies because they don't give ample protection. Now that you have bought a T7 and it looks like you are getting more into Adv riding, just be aware that the number 1 injury in Adventure riding is foot injuries.
@gamasierra

So which ones would you recommend? haha because these boots look sick!
@brentbat

@@gamasierra hard MX style boots give much better protection. Personally I ride with Sidi crossfire 2 boots which are great. When it comes to adventure riding, function should trump form. Foot injuries are the number 1 motorcycle injury, and you WILL drop the bike a lot more in adv riding.

Step 1: learn to ride a motorcycle… I watch people all the time Putting their feet down and all it does is dislocates you from your bike, keep you feet where they belong and trust your bike … Question: who wants to where MX boots for weeks/months long? (I travel for 6-8 months per year) I love my formas and any event that doesn’t allow them can suck eggs …

I got my Mototent last winter mainly for a 16 day 8000km trip through the Canadian Rockies. I live in the prairies and my first night on the trip found me camping in the middle of a massive storm. 90km sustained winds, hail and a tornado touched down 2 km away. I show my video and people are shocked. I stayed dry and the tent stayed upright. I made a hot coffee while the wind howled. I was impressed! I find it really easy to set up and I strap it on my pillion with rock straps. I ride an 2017 800gsa. I don’t even notice it’s there. I wish I had bought the awning kit at the time. I also have an 30litre overlander bag and I am impressed with Lone Rider’s quality. The tent and bag are still like brand new. I’m 6’3 and love the room in the tent. Love your videos.

Dude! That transition b/w the tent off/on the T7! Glad that you are providing your thoughts after thoroughly testing this puppy out. Seems like it's a great set up, despite being a bit heavy and cumbersome. Always a trade off b/w comfort and weight when it comes to moto-travel.

I ride a Ninja 400 and recently bought this tent as I go away doing photography (sometimes) found it fits nicely in the Ventura rack and it’s not overly wide if laying across the rack or I can have it standing up. Yet to get out and test it. Thanks for the video 👍🏽

We've been using the MotoTent for well over a year now, and living out of it for a few months. It's great for a couple, plus the garage (I call it the workshop) is great for me because I'm working my job from campgrounds and it gives me the perfect place to work/edit videos in the rain.

Nice review, thanks! I've just got the tent and I'm in two minds about it. Love all the features when it's up BUT 1. It's taking me 10-15 minutes to get the tent up. Even when (if) I get that down to 5-7 minutes that's a long time when it's pouring with rain. 2. In high winds the tent has the profile of a barn door, and the guy ropes look like they only just keep up with the struggle - maybe additional guy ropes on the middle pole would help? 3. The poles seem to go on forever. You don't want to be in a tight space trying to insert them into the tent loops. 4. To get all the features when you stop, you have to find room and carrying capacity when you're moving - and it's a bloody huge bag. 5. I found that the tent straps slip off the pegs in high winds. To fix that I made loops out of elastic for each strap. That allows for a little "give" so that the tent can flex in the wind slightly rather than fight it. Cheers

Great video Rob. I love the MotoTent and its size is no problem for me. Your fellow Auzzie Mark (Biker Bits) gave a great suggestion of using one big dry bag to contain all camping kit. That dry bag is the 32" wide "Unplug" produced by another Auzzie Frazer. I load into the Unplug my MotoTent, awning, Exped pad & sleeping bag, table and chair. I place the Unplug between myself and the trunk and let the Unplug span across the seat onto the Dolomiti panniers...gives me a nice back rest. Setting up camp is fast and efficient.

Question/request for the tent: could you do a short spot going over both the setup and pack down technique/timing (I’ve seen almost no one cover packing up), and tips and tricks you’ve picked up along the way for both of those in windy and/or rainy weather? My own is sat waiting for it’s first outing in my living room right now! But I’m always a little worried when that bad weather might roll through unexpectedly. Thanks for another awesome video, loving the content!

Love all my Lone Rider gear. I've got the MotoTent and it's one of the best tents I've used. The bike is carrying the weight, so why deprive yourself of some creature comforts? I also have a hammock set up from Warbonnet Outdoors, another great company that provide not only top of the line products that they make in house but their customer service is amazing too. Worth giving them a look, not sure if they ship to Australia or not.

Family have forbidden this pensioner to ride a bike any more but I will be looking at this tent to chuck in the car along with my "survival" bag (that has the essentials if an overnight stop is required). I do get to travel about the UK a fair bit being retired and still able but I don't always want to drag my caravan along. Been looking for a suitable tent for a couple of years but the choice is either tiny and stuffy or needs a couple of Sherpas to pitch!

You forgot the fact that if you have to work on your bike and it's raining or boiling hot under the sun you can unhook the front of the inner tent fold it back oe remove it totally and park your bike in there length ways giving you plenty of room to get around your bike and solve the problem out of the weather, I bought mine a few years ago and asked for the kaki colour one but they must have sold out at the time and they sent my the whitish one instead, no bike deal, helps reflect the heat in summer....

The vestibule looks great for extended trips where there's bad weather, some extra room to enjoy when the weather is bad, which begs the question, why bother all that extra weight etc just to keep your bike warm? A backpacking tent suits me fine, as the weight/size saving far outweighs the extra space available on the odd night that you have a bit of weather......A motorbike is weight sensitive as we all know, so backpack gear is the go in my opinion. 😎
@MotoFeelz
@MotoFeelz Жыл бұрын
The extra weight isn’t to just keep your bike warm though, it’s for all the things you mentioned at the start of your comment too. If I was going for a one nighter every now and then and the weather was perfect then I’d take a smaller tent too

Since I have lots of camping experience and my current tent is too small, ( a 2 person but I can barely sit up in it) would you recommend this tent? I know there will be many different AU weather and I just hate not being able to stand.. as well as sun protection and bad weather..it will be huge on my bike, but I'd rather have more room then only able to barely sit up... your thoughts?

Yet another 'sales pitch' vlog about the Lone Rider Moto-Tent. Why on Earth do you need to put your motorcycle in a tent? In my experience, most motorcycles are fairly water- resistant. Even in your commentary about how 'stable' the tent is in high winds, the tent was clearly bending and did not inspire my confidence in its structural integrity. The tent is way too high and bendy. And coming back to my first thought, why do you need to put a motorcycle in a tent? I'm not spending £800 on a pointless product. There, I've said it. Love and peace.
