Pretty much as un-SoCal as you can get around here. Not only are rear loaders somewhat uncommon around here in the first place, seeing them collecting residential, let alone on wide streets that you'd expect to be automated, is pretty rare. Not to mention most of the city's commercial/multi-family is also handled by these trucks and McNeilus is rather inferior around here. And there's no separate green waste collection, either.
I ran into these guys on Labor Day and ended up following them for a solid 90 minutes. I normally prefer automated trucks but I like to see some commercial rear-load action once in a while. The crew also moved nice and efficiently and knocked out about 5 streets of extremely heavy trash in the time I followed (most houses with 2 or 3 carts at least). Essentially any other city or hauler in the region would put an automated truck on this route for carts with a front loader running dumpsters, but there's no doubt in my mind this quick-moving crew could out-perform an automated truck easily.
I know the video is on the longer side so don't feel obligated to watch the entire thing, but I decided including everything I filmed was worth it. Thanks to the friendly crew; the driver is the same one seen in Tristen's recent video.
