thomas peterson Right on! Glad you could get something tips from the Video... Practice, practice, practice is what its all about which leads to progression, especially for myself. I've been rolling a lot of miles since I made this video, so another one will be forthcoming. However I was just married on the 10th of December and so another Video won't be released until January next year. Thanks for your comment, and keep on rolling!

Danny Thanks for your comment... And appreciate the encouragement! The video clip is a few years old and I’m glad to say that I’ve learned much these past couple of years and moving to the mountains has rebooted my desire to make some new videos sharing what I’ve learned from setups to improving board control. Also having a garage shop now to show DIY mods makes it so much easier for producing clips. Thinking a couple months and vids will start coming out. I’m still in the process of settling up here, and should have my computer up here within a month to make videos.... Stay safe and let the good times keep rolling! Gods blessings to you Bro.

I am a beginner and think this would be good to learn now. Before I get too set with one stance and kicking with the same leg. Thanks for making these videos.

That is most definitely a plus, to learn both kicks now.... Just be sure to not expect too much in the beginning.... It just keeps getting easier with some practice... And when you get proficient, try to learn to kick with one stance on both sides with a Goofy/ Mongol/ switch/ opposite of regular style stance. The most important thing I can share, is that when your learning to push/ kick with a switch/ mongol/ goofy style stance, is that the first thing you want to learn is how to step off the board. Trying to ride switch/ mongol/ goofy will feel insanely weird at first, so don't be discouraged...

Excellent on you getting your Roll on! Thanks for the comment, as it shows us that people are appreciating our videos which we like! About that Switch kick your doing, and that's neither a detriment or plus, since your making it down the road having fun! On this particular Video I was addressing how most people kick/ push but obviously it can be changed up for a goofy kicker as yourself! I've been practicing my goofy/ switch kick a lot lately and its taken a year to start feeling really comfortable with it. When you can kick with both stances, it opens up the Skogging style. I have one video on my channel that I made earlier in the year, in case you interested and we hope to be making another one, that will be better before the year is out. Anyway thanks again for your comment, and if your in San Diego sometime, be sure to look us up. meetup group in San Diego/ San Diego Skateboard Longboard Race Club.

Keep on rolling Bro! Be sure to mix up your kicks/ push with multiple variations.... regular stance with front foot plant with rear foot kick and then rear foot plant with front foot kick... And then do the same with switch stance... When you find your grove with all 4 kicks, then add the fluid rotation with Skogging... And you’ll roll beyond your limitations.... to anything you desire to commit to... Most importantly roll with friends whenever you can and Have fun!

Seriously Doni; I'm thinking your straight legged kick couldn't be all that Wrong if you were getting down the road! I just share what I learn that seems to work for me Bro! When I first started rolling it was all a mystery and after years of practicing and learning from others I figured there might be a few others that could use some of the fundamentals that would of made rolling with control easier for me in the beginning. I'm hoping to update this clip when time allows since I've had another year to dial in. Thanks for noticing the video and leaving a comment!

Angela Suzanne Roldan Hello Angela; Read your comment and understand how things might feel a bit awkward since your just learning. When I first started rolling switch foot it was the same experience of feeling awkward and sketchy. Here are a few tips; First off don’t rush it and enjoy rolling without kicking much in succession. Practice stepping off the board with pressure on your lead foot as you step off. Make sure your deck isn’t too short like 30” wheelbase measurement from inside holes of truck mounts. If possible get a double drop deck. Like 1” deck drop with a drop thru for trucks. Use your arms for balance like surfers. Keep your chin down and relax your hips with relaxed knee bend. If set up is too loose then adding some stiffer bushings in trucks will help stability but turning will be affected and your carve will be wider with harder bushings. Hope that helps a little. Most importantly have fun, as progress will occur with consistent practice....

I grew up skateboarding in Colorado. We always kicked off with our front foot. I moved to OK and they learn "Cali style" and keep saying I am wrong for kicking with my front foot. Is there actually a difference?
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 7 жыл бұрын
That's Hilarious, the whole wrong way right way nonsense.... Seriously though, the benefit of kicking with the foot stationary up front, while kicking with the back gives you a little better timing in skate-parks. And a lot of core Skate Park rollers will mock you for kicking with the front foot at skate parks, because life can be full of stupid. But for LDP, you actually kick with both styles when your stance is stationary, while using your leg on either side. For what its worth, I practice kicking on my switch side whenever I'm doing some miles, and then use some Skogging technical to switch over to regular stance when I start going down big hills or just to change it up with what I see coming up, like what stance do I want to roll with the rough gravel, or turn. etc... I have short clip explaining Skogging on my KZfaq channel.

well , there is not much difference while longboarding. May have a little better balance when kicking regular than mongo (front foot pushing) pushing. Same thing, only different name...
@joshstarkey8883
@joshstarkey8883 6 жыл бұрын
It can have disadvantages, but they're mostly not relevant in a strictly LDP situation. Putting too much weight on the back truck makes the board very unstable. However, in the video he puts his back foot pretty much in the middle of the board when he pushes mongo, not all the way at the back, and he's only at pushing speed. If you're going really fast down a hill and need to footbrake, regular is the way to go because your weight is all the way forward and that's the most stable.

Dan Robinson What's up Dan! Thanks for the props, and I would be glad to set you up with a most sweet ride. I have a collection of Decks and mega parts, to dial you in, not to mention tools to customize some of the decks. I took a break for a few months but have been getting into rolling heavily again. Best news is that I have some new set ups that are the Bomb for carrying speed and carving like a speedboat with stability on very mild grades that are fairly low to the ground. Definitely Loving the flow of some new rides I've been setting Up! But yeah I can totally hook you up with every detail and fine tuned. Just make it down to San Diego some time in the future. Call me 619-797-0018 Michel. Later's....

I have a landyachtz dinghy 26 and i have to push like every 20 feet. Will these techniques work?
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 7 жыл бұрын
Arvin Saji Yes you can apply these techniques on your 26 dingy. And the reason I say so, is that when I surf skate at the skate-parks, I'm always mixing 2 stances for regular kick/ push with either foot and when I'm feeling it I try to practice the same with my switch stance. Bottom line, these techniques will help you! I will be doing a video with a shorter deck to emphasize the importance of spinning whatever foot is on the deck with either your toe or heal (depending which way you need to adjust balance for kicking foot) to find the proper balance to use the kicking foot in a straight line (sorta parallel to the deck length edge). Thinking this video will come out soon...
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 7 жыл бұрын
Arvin Saji Obviously at the skate park I'm using a different shorter deck with double kick, so my usable standing platform is close to your Dingy.

I have only started longboarding this week, with no experience as a skateboarder. I am so slow. My kicking must be so inefficient. I think I kick too wide of the board, and perhaps not perfectly parallel with the board. Sometimes I feel like my kicking even slows the board momentarily. Not sure where I am going wrong. It might be that I have developed my balance enough. I hope I get better.
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 5 жыл бұрын
Harry Flashman You wrote that you just started this week, so no worries on form and just enjoy the roll without getting hit by cars or carving over anything on the road that will throw you off balance... Most importantly is being comfortable stepping off the board, which I’ve seen people struggle with as well. Make sure you adjust your feet to point straight, especially the front foot and step off with the weight on the front foot. And in reality it takes months of practicing like 10 hours a week to train yourself with balance. In the beginning I would recommend kicking up a slight grade which will help you have a bit more control. I’ve been working on my switch kicking and carving for over a year and it’s beginning to feel slightly normal, so just make sure your enjoying the ride and the progression will come.
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 5 жыл бұрын
When I mentioned adjusting your feet to point forward, I thought I should clarify to do this before stepping off the board, as it’s a lot easier to push off the front foot when your body is not pointing sideways. Keep your chin down as the body will as a rule follow your chin. Having fun is the priority though and I’m sure the progression and control you desire will come. This video will make more sense after you put some time on the deck... So just come back to this clip after a month and I’m thinking it will be much more helpful then. Hope that helps you some. Good Luck!

Bamischijf Satè Great question and Wish I had a short answer which is difficult without knowing what your rolling? Like deck brand/ size/ wheel base/ wheels/ bearings/ trucks brand/ and or type of wood and how many plys? Etc... For what it’s worth, I’ll be putting some clips out by summer with lots of mod tips for performance. Ive been testing and rolling set ups for many months now and the garage shop is set up with the right tools to share mods and DIY-steps with what Rips for different skill levels and road conditions...including skater style/ discipline. Good luck.

JakeHerstad Hahaha.... Appreciate your thought on me pumping down the road, as looking like speed wobbles, however let me assure you that I was pumping the deck which is working the opposite edges in a rhythm to accelerate down the road without placing either foot on the ground to kick/ push. Using your arms during this motion can also help to build or keep your speed up....
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 6 жыл бұрын
And speed wobbles are generally facilitated by the back foot when you have some speed, so don’t get yourself into trouble with trying to control your balance off the back foot. Sloppy angles can also translate into wobbles out of control! Have fun Bro!

Tommy and Coco Longboarding or Skateboarding is the vibe of feeling good and progression is satisfying and it makes me laugh whenever anyone wants to bag on how someone else rolls. Maybe back in grade school when we were all numb nuts bagging on others it was part of growing up being stupid, but at some point ya realize it’s better to focus on your own progression and accept whoever wants to hang out. So thinking all skaters need to roll on for good times....
