I used your fundamentals of marksmanship, barrel break in with copper equilibrium and shot a .33" group my first time out with my Savage .308. 101 yards (as per two of my rangefinders) , 3 rounds of Federal GMM 168gr. I separated and grouped my rounds by measuring each and every OAL with dial calipers and recording them. All my 250 rounds were from the same lot. No muzzle brake, Caldwell front and rear sand bags, sitting position at a range bench. Magneto Speed chronograph. The expensive one ($399) Breathing, heart beats....all that. I used everything you ever discussed. Yes. It REALLY works. I had the most amazing groups my very first time out! See? I was listening to you. I was pleased, but not all that surprised. I went to the range with zero precision rifle experience. But with a ton of information and an open heart. I had the Lord in one ear and you in the other. No joke. All my groups were an inch or less. Each round has FPS recorded as well as all environmental detail and point of impact on the target logged in a log book. I found the whole experience to be almost religious. VERY meditative and SO much different than blasting away with my AR-15 or my Glock. What an unusual and unexpected experience. That part I was not really expecting. You don't discuss that much. It's personal. I get it.

Now that I just turned 60, I needed that one thing to keep me busy. I am a former conservation officer and prior to that I was a military SWAT instructor. So, I am getting back into extreme long range. 1,000 yards is not difficult for me. I want to be very consistent at 1200 now. Your videos are outstanding and remind me of a lot. You are an expert in your field. I am building up a new rifle presently. A Savage Elite 110 in .338 Lapua. Looking at scopes now. Probably a Steiner. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Thank you. I began with video #1, forgot everything I ever knew about shooting and began learning. I know I have a world to go, but am now shooting like never before. Now, instead of shooting across the hollow, I shoot to the next farm. There are some West Virginia whitetails that put you on their hit list, Equally enjoyable to hear you expound on the scriptures. Another brother I haven't met yet. And yes, prayer works.

I like this video a lot because it employs the method I was taught in the Infantry that have always served me well. Steady position, sight picture, trigger control and natural pause. We learned with "dime drills" where you get used to shooting with a dime on a dowel that was put in the barrel. Once you can dry fire with the dime staying on the dowel, you have a good idea of how to do it steadily without dropping the dime on your stick. Never ever underestimate the power of dry firing weather its with a pistol or rifle. I dryfire my cc firearm over and over with the sights on a target to get used to the trigger. Anyways, great video, keep it simple.

I'm more of a advanced precision shooter but it always helps to go back to the basics and see different techniques and try them not everything works for everyone. mr Rex thank you for this series of videos im new to this type of shooting im doing it now for 3 months with 338 lapua magnum and won my first match with 1100 meters only get 3 shots at each target the closer targets i missed my first shot but the final target was 3 confirmed hit with 11.2 inch grouping at a 1100 meters and i had no training i only had your videos so i owe you a great big thank you and hope i get the prevlige to meet you one day and give you a hand shake i still need a lot to learn and would love to shoot with you one day

Just a note; barrel harmonics typically aren't a problem with free floating barrels in regards to zeroing. But definitely good practice to "practice how you play".

Hey Rex, what is the designation for the shooting vest you are wearing? Can you make a good recommendation for a possible Load bearing vest that can be used as a shooting vest. Something that would have padding in the shoulder. Something with proper padding to accommodate big bore rifles

Illuminated recital scope selection would be great subject. Great info on Mil quality scopes so far. Would be interesting to know what your opinion of base price and up on this subject. Is there any like the SWFA SS with an illuminated recital?

I have noticed that body positioning changes cheek weld. So the scope should be mounted to fit different body positions.

I believe I have learned more from this series about rifles then any other source. I have read that for a semi auto rifle the first shot after reloading is different from following shots. If this is the case a video on what to expect and how to adjust would be great!

If positioning your rifle differently on the bag is affecting the harmonics of the barrel then you do not have a free-floating barrel and you have an issue already because as long as the barrel is not touching anything and is properly bedded to the stock it isn't going to have a harmonic shift no matter where you put it unless you're touching the barrel to something other than the action

A friend of mine in SF also wore a British top like yours. Another guy we shall call Chili Mack was new out of school. He wore UDT shorts on a mission, I mean dare in Afghanistan. I have the pictures.................some where.

Rex, i bought a 7mag 700 sps, i did not replace the barrel, but my plans include adding suppressor, the dia at the end of the barrel is 650. Is to small for a suppressor? Would you use a adapter or do 5/8 24

question i'm looking at a 308 win or 300 win mag for long range target shooting maybe out to 1000 yards and for deer and elk hunting from 100 yards to 300 yards and i,ll reload the 300 win mag down for deer hunting if i need to ? i know the 300 win mag is a little big for deer but if been look and it as slightly better ballistics than the 308.

Surprised how it got to marksmanship basics only in part 88! I think it says that the author views the body behind the rifle as important but only if there is a learning soul behind the body. So there was knowledge before. Kudos for following through on Pro 18:5. Foremost praise to the One cause he did his part of the deal behind Pro 1:7.

How important is it to keep the rifle level horizontally? Sometimes I'll look through the scope after I'm in position and the horizontal cross hair will look like it is not very level so then I'll try to re-adjust the feet of the bipod by pushing one side down or by propping the other side up. Some shooter's I've noticed have bubble levels attached to their scopes. Would you recommend having a bubble level?

If let it goes bang and almost surprises you, because you won't know when it's gonna bang how can you intentionally send the bullet between heartbeats so the groups are not like up and down?

What is your opinion of the Barnes TTSX bullets? It seems to have a similar BC to the Hornady A-Max. I'm currently using 165gr Barnes TTSX in my 300 Win Mag for hunting purposes because they penetrate so reliably. As a side note, I would use 180gr but I prefer the slightly lower weight for hogs and whitetail deer. Just thought I'd get your thoughts because I'm a novice and you have such a broad base of knowledge on the subject. I'm working on building my rifle up and I'd like to do it right. Thanks!
