Excellent video! This is the best exotic game hunting video I have ever seen. The 6.5x284 cartridge has plenty of muzzle velocity for long-range hunting, and its flat trajectory also beats the wind factor, too. Great job!

@@Dave-cf2ng Dang, that's great. Is it a long action to get the bullet out of the powder? Have a savage 10 I want to rebarrel soonish, so a longish short action. Thought I'd settled on 260 AI but 3100 fps with no action alterations would be a head turner.

Great video, I’m trying to set up an purpose caliber for western game hunting. I’ve been stuck between the 6.5-284 and 300 prc. Can the Norma do it all and what’s your thoughts.
@Colok10
@Colok10 2 жыл бұрын
Johnny, those are completely different rounds. 6.5-284 Norma will be a spectacular mule deer and antelope round, probably one of the best you can get, and it will also perform well out to 700 yards. 300 PRC is a big, extremely hard recoiling round made for super long range military work and hunting. The 300 PRC will be a solid performer on Elk and moose and really anything except dangerous game out to a long range prob 800 yards. The 300 prc is not good for mule deer or antelope if your worried about meat.

@@Colok10 yeah I know they are way different calibers. I actually have a 6.5 creedmoor, 6.5 prc, and a 308 now. I was looking for something for western game but could also be used in Florida where I live. I know the 6.5 prc is more powerful than the 6.5-284 but the 284 ammo is way cheaper lol. Plus always looking for another rifle to buy.
@Colok10
@Colok10 2 жыл бұрын
@@bartowpd342 , I’m surprised that you say you want a 6.5-284 Norma when a 6.5 PRC does almost the exact same thing, and 6.5 PRC ammo should be cheaper and more relevant, at least in Texas where I live that’s how it is. And I would never use a .300 prc in florida there is nothing you would need that for.
@bartowpd342
@bartowpd342 2 жыл бұрын
@@Colok10 6.5-284 ammo is about 40 and prc is 80 to 120 here. And you are right nothing here but scrub oak deer, nothing like the deer in Texas. Thanks again for the info.

He wants you to shoot behind the shoulder because the South Africans don't like light bullets for shoulder shots. We ran into that with the ELD-M bullets we took this year. You punch one through the shoulder and they see how it works it usually changes their tune pretty quick. (Though in their defense if a bad shot is made the heavier bullets are more likely for the bullet to exit the animal and it makes tracking easier.)
@franzschmid9079

I'm doing the same in Switzerland with row deer or stack, so I have less destroyed meet (shoot it through the carcass we called it). In the mountain we shoot different, we shoot we called it in the "mechanic" because we don't want long runs of the animal so the chance is less that the animal is falling down to a canyon!

The 6.5x55 Swede and the 6.5-264 Norma are two sensible 6.5 cartridges, both have lighter recoil the Swede 12.9 ft.lbs and the Norma 15.4 ft.lbs which leads to accurate shots and quick, clean kills. Hunters don't need some ultra magnum howitzer: hunting is not a big dick contest! Accuracy, a skilled hunter, and shot placement harvest animals humanly and fill freezers. Get a 6.5 Creedmoor the gun writers say, why would I need a Creedmoor when the Swede has 100 fps advantage, is damn accurate, and has been taking big game for over one hundred plus years. Oh you should get the 6.5 PRC. Why? The Norma is practically its ballistic twin with such minimal difference it is negligible... the animal sure a heck wont know the difference.
