Detailed step by step build of a long range fpv S800 wing, including wiring diagrams and full instructions to setup Inav, Blheli and a Taranis.
The codes you need for the Inav CLI are here:
set max_angle_inclination_rll = 600
set max_angle_inclination_pit = 600
set small_angle = 180
set nav_fw_bank_angle = 35
set nav_rth_altitude = 7000
set failsafe_throttle_low_delay = 0
set nav_rth_allow_landing = OFF
This wing should be great for some long range FPV flying. It'll probably work best on a 7" prop.

Turns out you don't actually need 130g of ballast in the nose. I've reduced it to 70g now and it fly's perfect
@jamich1
@jamich1 6 жыл бұрын
How so ? Its reduced by half. Shorly the wing must be tail heavy or is the CG point further from the nose ? Also how do you like chaos vtx (would you say its better then foxeer switcher) ? Last question where did you get cobra motor CP2207 with only 1850kv ?
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
I balanced the CG according to the CG point on the aircraft that's 120mm from the nose, and although on the bench it felt correct, in flight I found the aircraft wanted to pitch forward a lot. So I removed some of the nose weight untill I reached a point where it flew much nicer. Yes I like the chaos vtx, its smaller and lighter than the foxeer switcher and more powerful too. Only thing I don't like about it is the odd plug that connects the wiring harness. It's not a standard mini jst but some weird hybrid. Not really a probem though. I got my cobra motor from quadcopters.co.uk
@jamich1
@jamich1 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for info. I checked the motor and they have it in stock by delivery is 12 pounds to Slovakia. they are crazy those guys. 12 pounds for delivery of small motor in EU. So I guess no cobra motor for now :) I definitely thinking to get that vtx. Is the range of this vtx much better then foxeer ?
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
Yup. With the Foxeer the maximum distance I could achieve was around 5km, whereas with the Chaos I've so far done 6.8km and still had a good picture. Good quality antenna's are important though. Ah that sucks about the motor. Any 1850kv race quad motor should be just as good though, it doesnt have to be a cobra :)

True no need for cobra. I just cant believe how long flight you got out of it. I have 2200mah 3s like u and get maybe 10min how is this possible? Though my motor is 2300kv

Another cool S800. Building one myself as I speak. Look on thingyverse for vortex generators s800. These lower induced drag(longer range) and lower stall speed(increase load carrying capability, like larger battery...). Make the wing more directionally stable. easy mod.

Have a look at my more recent videos, I use a lot of different hardware now, although still run inav on all my builds. I think a eagletree vector might be slight overkill for a s800, would be better suited to a larger aircraft that can do more range. But that's just my opinion 😊

When I fly with my s800, I always mark the home in the opposite direction, except when I pass it on its side, it is as if it had the drone rotated because the point recognizes it well but would be well oriented if the wing was in the opposite direction.

@gizfpv

The OSD blinks when the throttle is high due to a 'ground loop' issue. It can be fixed by taking the ground wires from the vtx and the camera and soldering them to the FC. I meant to do this but forgot, and seeing as I rarely fly with the throttle high I'm not to worried about it at the moment

The aircraft fly's significantly better if you keep all the weight as close to the centre as possible. You can use the pre-made slots on the wings for your vtx and rx if you want, but the wing will be more difficult to launch and rock around more in flight

@Giz FPV, in the video at 1:18 I noticed you have the TBS Crossfire wired through a 5v regulator to the main pads on the PDB. Couldn't you just wire the TBS Crossfire directly to a 5v pad on the PDB and not use the regulator?
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
In theory yes, but the TBS Crossfire diversity rx requires 1a minimum to power it. The 5v regulator on the PDB is only 2a, and the servos need a unknown amount of amps to power them. So I used a seperate 5v regulator as a precaution. Better to use that than to possibly overload the PDB regulator and loose either rx, servos or both in flight

Nice flight time on the 3s battery! I run a 2600kv and 1800mah 4s on my AR WIng which gets me about 16 mins tops, 3120mah li-ion gets about 30 mins though ... still considering a lower KV motor, just not sure what kv and prop to go for yet, any recommendations?
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
The motor I am using seems to be one of the best options (hence why I went for it lol). You could put a even lower kv motor on, but then you'd have to use a even bigger prop for optimal efficency. With my motor I can use a 7" prop, but a lower kv motor would likely need a 8", which wont fit unless you trim the elevons
@DanboFPV
@DanboFPV 6 жыл бұрын
It's hard to find the amp draw specs on the Cobra. Running 4s with a 7" prop, do you know how many amps your likely to pull at full throttle and cruise ? Ideally i'd like to stick the li-ion pack in but constant draw is 18.5a and 56a max for 60s bursts. Cheers

Alt hold mode doesn't work by itself, it has to be tied in with angle mode too. Not sure why, just the way the inav developers have set it up. The SCL and SDA wires are for the compass, which you don't need and shouldn't use on a wing. I'd personally just remove them from your GPS unit and just solder the TX, RX, 5V and GND wires like I have. If you really want to keep the compass however, then put your TX wire on RX6, your RX wire on TX6, and then put your SCL and SDA wires on the pads labled SCL/TX3 and SDA/RX3. Then on Inav be sure to set your GPS to UART6, rather than UART3 as I have

They're just wasting their time and are probably doing it because they're scared to open up the gps module and desolder the SCL/SDA wires lol. Get on the 'Rag the nuts off' page on Facebook and ask in there, you'll find everyone will tell you the same thing. For a wing you don't need a compass :)

Giz FPV Thanks for the quick answer, if I understood correctly, the difference between v1 and v2 is in the material, so the design is the same design? I plan longrange, so the place for the battery is important to me.
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
yehonatan Bellaiche Yup the design is identical on both the v1 and the V2, just a slightly different material. The v1 is still very tough, but lighter, so for long range get the v1

I have the Omnibus F4 version 5 when I connected it to betaflight the Target was Omnibus F4 SD why are you using omnibus f4proTarget?
@gizfpv

Because that's the target that the instruction leaflet that came with the FC said to use

@@gizfpv ok well i have the same fc. The paper mine came with says omnibusf4sd for betaflight. So idk which one to use for inav.. cause the sd one isnt in there...? Should i use the omnibusf4pro? Also im using rmrc mini gps and tbs crossfire and unify. What uarts should i comnect the gps and crossfire to?

Why do you use regulator for 5V if you can have it from PDB?
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
RandomGuy Because the 5v regulator on the PDB is unable to safely supply enough amps to power the servos and Rx. The Rx needs a minimum of 1amp

I use a 6" and get about 30 mins flight, I've tested a 7" once and got a slightly longer flight time but also a slower speed. So depends how quickly you want to do long range flights I guess lol

Thanks for that Giz; but 165 grams of ballast! And I was worried about 100 grams on mine! I don't know why everyone is using the S800, (including me), I find it a poor design. Anything that needs that much ballast is unacceptable. It needs a longer nose to get the battery out further.
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
patrickcol Haha, Nah it's not actually that much ballast if you think about it. The S800 is specifically designed to carry a Gopro which is around 80g, but if you're not using one you need to substitute that weight. So in reality I've only actually had to add 50g of additional weight on top of what should be there, and I could probably get away with less. I reckon 100g would be fine, and I may reduce my ballast in the near future. Once properly balanced the S800 is a fantastic platform. I've been using my other S800 for long range flying for 6 months now and it fly's really well 😊

Nice video but using INAV 1.7.1 is totally unadvisable. Also ESC calibration done like that is not good. Just go into motor tab, higher the throttle from there, plug the battery, set it down to minimum after beeps and calibration done.
@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
yokonunz Nothing wrong with inav 1.7.1, I've been using it for 6 months on my other s800 and works fantastic. That's true about the ESCe calibration, the only reason I showed the Blheli option is to show people how to also change motor direction if they need it.

Giz FPV same until I had it. If the altitude at the time of Fail-Safe start is lower than the slow down altitude the plane will land instead of coming home for instance.

@gizfpv
@gizfpv 6 жыл бұрын
Henning M Not really. Just figured I'd put in a f4 as it was the same price as the F3. But you don't gain anything useful for using a f4. Only thing that is slightly useful is you get a extra uart, but you don't need it. F3 is just fine 😊
