If anyone who worked at longannet happens to stumble across my comment, hi, and I would just like to say thank you for keeping the lights on over the years.

does anyone else think that it is a bit sad that longannet is no longer there?

Carbon capture is hopeless and dangerous. Who's to say that all of the CO2 stored in an underground geological reservoir can't ever be released ?. What happens if there's a major seismic event ?. Imagine the effect of the release of 100 Million tons of CO2 on the local environment, i.e. YOU!. Cheers, JIm.

Would like to echo the earlier commenters. Sure all the staff at Longannet are good people doing good jobs, but CCS coal + renewables, as Scotland is heading for, will never be an adequate solution for the grid or the climate. This is what happens when nuclear is foreclosed as an option in a country's energy mix by the purely ideological and paranoid arguments of environmentalists. If Scotland is going 100% renewable by 2020 WHY does coal in Scotland have a future beyond 2023? Because 100% renewable electricity is a politically motivated, impracticable LIE.
