Thank you so much for posting this. I bought a used long arm w the butler system. I hadn’t used it for 5 months due to holidays and health issues. Went to use and had no recollection of what to do. Pushed buttons for several hours before dinner and watching this. Ready to go tomorrow. I already basted it today. My issues are I have medically induced Alzheimer’s. Once off med that caused it I still have a 30-35 percent residual Alzheimer’s. I still do my best to pursue my passion of quilting. When under the throw of full on Alzheimer’s I never dreamed of having my life back. So warning if someone begins acting odd look at the meds first. I try to educate everyone after the horror we lived through for 2.5 years.

I know this is an older video. I do hope you get my message. Thank you so much for putting this out. I just quilted my first quilt following your instructions and it worked out perfectly. This video answered a lot of questions and gave me the confidence to go for it. And my first long arm quilt turned out beautifully!!! Thank you!!

Oh Becky! I loved this video sooooo much! I wish I could “like” it a million times! You are my very favorite quilter! What a great instructor you are! This quilt you have on the machine is beyond beautiful! It makes my heart sing! 🥰 I would love to have a longarm like yours but just can’t seem to get hubby to say ok. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I guess at 71 yrs of age, it just isn’t the wisest expenditure for me. But ohhh, would I love one! So thank you for letting me have my dream through your video! ❤️✝️

Aren't you sweet? Thank you for your kind words. My hubby realized the longarm would pay for itself when he got the first couple of bills from the longarmer and my stash was the size of the Pyramids so there were more quilt tops to come. lol

Becky, please make a few more of these videos. I’m a newer long arm quilter and you helped clarify one of my issues which is advancing the quilt and repositioning the pattern. I would love any quilt loading tips using the snappers or similar items. I’m learning machine embroidery, appliqué, and the brother scan and cut from you. I have a Bernina sewing/embroidery machine so it’s not as seamless as with your machine but at least you show the methods clearly and I can adapt. Love your videos. Beautiful quilt! Thanks again.

Thank you, Becky. I will never be able to afford another machine for anything, but I loved watching your video tutorial. If I ever win the lottery I will treat myself to something wonderful like a big quilter. I am battling post polio so, I would have to get a table for sitting while I quilt. This was great. Thanks again.

Thanks. I've watched many videos on the Butler and it's so hard when the user doesn't tell you what you're about to do, which button they are going to use, and why. She's says "And I'm going to tell it to do "x" and her hand is in the way and after she clicks, I didn't see what happened and she's already off on the next thing while my brain is still processing what I didn't see. I don't understand why a company who wants to sell these things doesn't offer expert instruction on the web. That will give the potential customer time to evaluate the interface and see if it's for them. These things are outrageously expensive so having good training should be an essential part of the marketing I would think. I even hunted down a Butler rep at the Houston Show one year to specifically ask about how to work the nesting feature and she said, "Oh I don't use it. I do it the old fashioned way and keep a note pad next to my work with the measurements of how far apart I want the patterns." Really. So...that's what I do.

Hey Becky! I found this video last year when I kept getting confused about putting bindings together. I watched so many videos and followed some but this one is easiest by far. I always prop my tablet up next to my sewing machine and watch it every time I bind a quilt. I would know it by heart if I finished quilts more often but there are usually a month or two between quilting. Video is only 2 minutes long and doesn't even take that long to sew bindings togethere..hope you like it. Well it won't let me copy and paste it so there must be a rule about that. I'll try to put it in a comment below.

The nesting feature is really easy to do once it clicks for you. Choose the nest feature, move to the lowest point and drop the needle just like you did. The little notes at the bottom tells you what to do next. It will say something like 'mark your nesting point". Click ok or check mark I can't remember while sitting here. Then it will tell you to roll the quilt. Roll the quilt, straighten it out. Do not sew the edges or touch another button or anything until you are through the nesting feature. Once you have rolled the quilt hit the check mark, hit check mark again and again without doing anything else until the nesting is complete. THEN baste the sides. It really is that simple. It works perfectly each time. Wish I knew how to do a video I would do one for you.

Thank you Becky - your video is so helpful - I have watched it 8-9 times as I have a new systems that is very different than my old one. Question - how do you reduce the vibration? Is your system on carpet? I have wood floors. One other thing - do you find it is smoother to use the robotics than to FMQ? I felt very choppy in my FMQ - probably because of the difference in the weight of this machine versus my old one.

Yes, that's exactly how I do it. I make a snip at the correct length on each side and then aim a horizontal laser light at it as a cutting line. Then I take it to the table and cut the batting to the same width as the backing.

Very interesting! Did your quilt butler come with any of the designs or did you have to buy them all separately? It was interesting to see that you basted each section as you went. Have you ever used a bag of beans on top of the quilt as you' quilted to apply tension to the top of the quilt? Reason I ask I saw Leah day do that on one of her videos. I can't afford a long arm but I would love to try to rent one sometime thanks for the demo.
@PowerToolsWithThread

Nearly all of the designs you saw in the options came with the Butler. I have only purchased a handful of them. Yes, I've heard of bean bags and cans of soup that roll along, etc. I've been doing it this way for so long I don't even think about using something else. I always baste each section as I go so the foot doesn't get stuck under the edge of the fabric. I've heard of basting all over and then quilting, but I just do it as I go and it works for me.

So enjoyed that it was very interesting and informative. Is the Quilt Butler independent or is the software you by for that particular machine. As I am thinking of buying software I would be glad to watch any video that will help me. 👍😀 Thank you for your time

The Quilt Butler is separate and can go on almost any brand of longarm machine. I'll link to QuiltEZ's website below - they make the Butler. Mine was about $5k and Sewing Machines Plus has a contract with QuiltEZ to customize that particular longarm, King Quilter Special Edition, so it only runs with the robot (that's what they call the computer on a longarm). I bought mine all kit-and-kaboddle so I'm not sure of the process to buy one separately and customize your current machine. Of course, I got the 10" screen for my bad eyes. lol www.quiltez.com/ www.quiltez.com/butler/

I've tried paper and I'm horrible at it. That's why I invested in the computer. Thank you for your kind words! :)

Becky I have my butler all on but I dont understand the plug ins on the box. I've already made a boo boo with the plug in so I'm a little skeptical to start plugging in stuff.

How long did it take to quilt this piece after you had it on the frame? I used to weave on a four harness loom. Before you can weave it's 17 steps prior to the first shuttle pass. Your longarm set up has lots of steps prior to actually quilting. I believe this video shows why longarmers charge the fees they do to their customers. Thank you again for another great video!!!!!

The set up to get the quilt on the frame is about 45 minutes to load the backing on with the Red Snappers, properly place the batting and top, and then do the initial basting. The entire process took about 4 hours. Thanks for watching!

Becky..did the tablet you use come with the quilt butler or did you buy it separately? Are you happy with your QB purchase?

I am looking into the Quilt Butler. Sewing Machines Plus has a really good deal right now but I don’t know if I should spend the money. I only have the basic King Quilter ll. Any words of wisdom for me?

I haven't had any trouble at all with the Quilt Butler itself but there isn't much in the way of instruction out there about it at all. Everything I know, I learned on KZfaq. So if you're one to do your own homework and step-by-step yourself through what you can find online, then you should be OK with it. If you need hands-on or closer support, then you may want to look for a Quilt Path dealer or other dealer in your area. The Butler sold by SMP however, is specifically designed to work with the King Quilter but you'll probably also have to change out some cables and other stuff. It's pretty involved (you need new handlebars too I think) and I'm not sure I'd do it myself. I'd probably sell the machine (or trade it in) and buy new. You save a lot of money with SMP, but I highly recommend looking around on FB and across the web for how involved it would be to upgrade to the tablet from a machine without one.
