I visited Long Beach a few weeks back, and I actually ran into Griff at a Panera Bread. I asked for his autograph, and he promptly put me in a headlock and brutally delivered blow after blow perfectly to the center of my face. This continued for a total of 1 minute and 57 seconds, after which he released me, where I was rushed to the hospital. I just got out and have fully recovered from the physical and mental trauma. Yeah, exactly the points mentioned in the video as to why excitement for apocalypse events are short-lived. I wouldn’t say that being a bit excited or hyped THE MOMENT it occurs is odd. After all, we have watched lots of apocalypse movies and books; so the excitement typically comes from the idea of something once considered fictional coming to life. It’s the same with superheroes and aliens. These things would be extremely exciting at first, because of the idea of something fictional becoming real life. However, the glamour fades when the reality of these events come in. Everyone is excited for aliens until the aliens want to annihilate us all, and their technology is so advanced that fighting back is futile. Everyone is excited for superheroes, but are not prepared for a Homelander-like character existing in real life. Same with a zombie apocalypse. The excitement of being given the opportunity to the bad-ass, unshakeable protagonist fades away when: 1. someone important to you is either killed or eaten; 2. When you start to feel the effects of suddenly being deprived of modern day conveniences (can’t use cellphone, no 911 or ambulances, no product manufacturers or factories to manufacture new products to survive, having to start farming, hunting for your own meat, etc). 3. When you realize the law no longer exists and you start to feel unsettled and unnerved every time you encounter people. Remember, the law is gone. Now there is nothing stopping the racists, rapists, predators, murderers and the vilest of humans beings from preying on the innocent. It will be difficult to tell who is who. Also, how would you even sleep at night when you are harbouring strangers that you aren’t sure will slit your throat when you and your family are vulnerable. 4. You realize that forming a community and making laws isn’t as easy as you once thought: If you do decide to make a band of survivors, how will laws be enforced? What will you do to people who commit the vilest offence? Will you perform the death penalty? If so, where will you draw the line? Will you have therapists who can help reform individuals? How will evidence work in a world without much forensics scientists or forensic science equipments no longer being manufactured? Dealing sentences will now become super difficult. 5. You realize you are not the badass, extremely intelligence, extremely prepared main protagonist you thought you were. You think you would be the guy who owns the bunker but you are probably the guy begging to be let into a settlement or begging for essential needs. All of these are just a tip of the iceberg. Every modern convenience and norms that make us US will disappear. You will have to rebuild everything from scratch. And I assume this apocalypse event could even set us back to before the 2000s age. An apocalypse therefore loses all glamour and becomes the worst thing possible.
