I attended a Dodger game at the LA coliseum, I don't remember the exact year, it had to be between 1958 and 1961. Frank Howard came to bat and almost hit a homerun out of the stadium to left field! Me and my brother were seated in the upper stands, and the ball was still climbing when it hit the seats! I still remember that till this day. Frank was a monster standing in the batters box.

A ton of guys have pop and don't show it because they can't make enough contact. Or there are guys who just aren't as good at putting the barrel to the ball so most of the time they don't hit it as hard and they could then it seems like suddenly they hit one to the moon because they don't usually hit it off the barrel. A great example is Michael A Taylor, every other year he'll hit one 475+ feet even though throughout his career he has below average power numbers.

Not the longest, but the hardest hit ball I ever saw came in August of 1980 -- Yankees at Royals. I was a big Royals fan and that night I was sitting about 10 rows back behind the Yankees dugout when Reggie Jackson hit a laser beam off Dan Quisenberry that had no arc -- frozen rope that embedded itself into the turf below the scoreboard. It left the park so fast, the centerfielder never moved a step. In postgame interviews, someone asked Quiz what he threw to Reggie and he said, "I don't know. It's still burrowing to St. Louis." Quisenberry interviews were priceless.

@chili015 Жыл бұрын
It's just the design of the stadium that gives the appearance that balls that clear the railroad tracks and out of the entire stadium go farther, when in reality if that same ball was hit to right field, it probably ends up in 2nd deck well short of the scoreboard.

Judges homerun went farther than 455ft, that had to be 475-480 ft. I’ve seen Hanley Ramirez hit one into the back of the flight deck at 467ft, this one went over the flight deck
@orangeunderscore Жыл бұрын
I’m thinking it might’ve had to do with launch angle. Judges seemed to have a compressed arc cause the launch angle seemed higher. I’m assuming Ramirez’ was probably a shallower arc leading to it travelling farther in the projections

I don't think people realize how heavy those bats are and how hard these guys not only swing them, but how they measure and time the ball, and often times are waiting ( sitting ) on that pitch. Like when they predict a hard sinker and time the speed and angle perfectly and barrel it up. It's truly an insanely difficult thing to do and they make it look so easy
