I watched this movie last night and I left not knowing how to feel about it. The Cinematography was amazing and the silence in the movie definitely made me feel creeped out while watching it. I wasn't necessarily scared while watching, but felt eerie because of the vibes it gave off. One thing that did ruin my experience though was the couple sitting next to me, they wouldn't stop talking and kept laughing and shoving each other which made it hard to not look over at them during the movie. Some people just don't have movie theater etiquette anymore!

*spoiler* That’s interesting, I thought it was because she had a past connection with him that was the initial reason she was having those ‘whooshing feelings’. Because once they explained that she had a past connection with long legs, that’s when the whole ‘intuitive’ plot went out the window for me. She had these repressed memories that were coming back in waves at a time until it all flooded back in her mind in the end once that doll broke.

You're incorrect about the pyschic ability, or seem to have misunderstood, cause it was used quite frequently. If you watch it again, there is periodically a whisper and wind sound that guides her to something important and this is that ability kicking it. It's also felt more directly anytime she is in close proximity to or in contact with the metallic balls or Longlegs himself where she gets those vivid visions in red. Its implied the psychic powers are a direct result of her doll still being intact.

The silver ball inside the dolls was explained to be pieces of long legs, and though its a leap, it was said that it allowed him to tell her where to look for things, playing into that cat and mouse game trope. which is why when her doll was destroyed she lost her connection to her “abilities”. is it lazy and one hell of a stretch, yes, but its there atleast lol

I think the “psychic” ability was in relation to long legs being connected to Lee. Each doll he made contained “his essence” …and during his encounter with little Lee and her mother, he mentions he’ll be able to “come and go whenever he wants, as often as he wants”. So, was she psychic…or was she just pulling from the connection with long legs which in turn gave her “psychic” abilities? I think that’s why it wasn’t really brought up again.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. I loved the atmosphere it created, and I was spooked out half the time without there being any obvious reason. I also love to watch a horror movie that has me trying to figure it out right away. I definitely enjoy being surprised by new plots that haven't been played out a million times before. There was some great cinematography. Right from the beginning. Unfortunately, it all just fell flat. Everyone at the theater sat there for a minute when the credits started, and then was like, wtf?? It had so much potential to really be amazing, and the storyline was really interesting , but too many things that weren't explained and rushed through. I also really didn't like the FBI agent. She was really weird acting and awkward, and it just made it unbelievable that she was actually a Fed. Nicholas Cage was amazing and truly frightening. He definitely has a knack for playing a scary, weird, psychopathic character. I wished there was more of him actually in the movie. I feel if they had left the far-out supernatural aspects out, it would've made a more horrifying conclusion that would've left the audience more satisfied. I rate it 1 star for the overall movie. 100 stars for the hype and secrecy of promoting the film. I wouldn't recommend going to the theater, and it's not something I'd watch again. I love Nick Cage, tho! ❤

I thought the pacing was solid for the first 30 min then it just becomes so drawn out with its themes and religious tones to the point where it feels more like an indie art project trying to make u feel a sense of dread with pointless exposition then a cohesive story. I wish the film would have learned more into either realism or supernatural than it did, but I felt like the balance it struck wasn't very effective. The most terrifying part to me was something that the film just sort of glossed over, and I wish it would have been touched on just a little bit further, because it would have made for a great "omg, no way!" kind of reveal. That said, I enjoyed it and will probably watch it again several times, but there were portions of the narrative that needed a bit more work.

When I first heard about the movie, I thought it was about spiders. Kinda like those movies about giant spiders that attack a town or mall, But recently I found out the true story, I might see this thanks for the review.

It wasn't ''A Scariest film of the Decade'', But it was definitely an interesting watch, I would definitely recommend it to people who are more into crime/thriller genre, because this is definitely not a horror film. It has horror elements but it wasn't a full blown horror movie from start to finish. There was some unsettling and creepy parts but I never felt truly scared. Nic Cage and Maika Monroe were both great, the actress who plays Lee's mother in the film was fantastic, she was absolutely creepy. But it definitely a type of movie that you need to see twice, it demands that. So I am definitely going to be seeing again but this time alone at home. I just came out of the screening couple of minutes ago, so the movie is very fresh in my mind but I just... I don't know, I need to sit with this movie for a bit and think how I feel about it, because there were stuff I really, really liked and then there were some other stuff that I would put under a question mark. That's why I think it necessary to see it twice. I can say that I think this film should have been either longer or a mini-series, a 1 hour 40 minute runtime is not enough to tell such a story I feel like, there is quite a lot that is left to viewer's imagination, a very ambiguous ending. I don't hate the ending but I do wish we got a conclusion, it felt like we will be getting Longlegs 2 or something... but either way, I can't decide fully on how I feel about this film, I will say I did like it more than I did not like it, but I don't want to go in the details because I am not 100% sure if even the things I did not like I truly don't like you know? But it definitely was an experience that I overall enjoyed but at the same let down by few things, I did feel like it needed to be longer at the very least and the jumpscares were weak... absolutely weak to me. But I will still recommend for anybody to go check it out for yourself, especially like I said before if you are fan of these type of movies (Silence of the Lambs, Seven or Zodiac) then this could be a good time for you. I will say this, this film is definitely also not on par with Silence of the Lambs or Seven in terms of filmmaking, storytelling and etc etc... It definitely pays homage to those films but at the same brings an interesting unique twist to the movie which I did really like. So yeah, go check it out. I feel like this movie is going to be very divisive, some people will love it some people will like it and some will straight out hate it, it definitely a more of A24 type of horror/thriller flick. Also, Nic Cage's performance was definitely something... I did not know how to approach his character... but eventually he did get under my skin but I can see some people straight out laugh at this character because of how ridiculous he is in this. Even I smiled couple of times because Nic Cage was having a lot of fun in this one, oh my oh my... He was chewing every scene, the interrogation scene definitely is going to be a memorable scene from the movie. Gosh, I went on a huge rant.. I need to chill, but at the moment it very hard for me to rate this, I need to wait a bit until I can truly comprehend what I just saw.

Not going to lie, I’d have to give it a strong 6.9/10. It definitely lacked the horror aspect. I did enjoy it more as a crime/thriller. Maybe Hereditary set the bar too high for me aha

I was on board. Then I was kinda like, ummm. I was cool with Cage's performance, but it was telling me a few different things that came across as confusing. Ultimately, I was left with questions and underwhelmed with the mystery of it all. The reason for the story that they landed on was meh at best. Thanks for another great review, Chris! Keep up the good work, sir. #GeeSawThat 🤘🏿😁👍🏿

Not seeing Cage is the point! I didn’t need to see him more at all. The story isn’t about him, it’s about Lee. All the great thriller/horror/detective films don’t show their villain for the majority of the film. It makes them more terrifying!

@@3CFilms sure, give him his moment. But I don’t want to see more for a longer period of time. I would’ve cut the scene in the market with him and the girl. Don’t have any character not take him as a threat. That’s my only complaint.

3:03 I haven’t seen it yet but I’m intrigued… if a horror/thriller movie sticks with you this well after it’s over and your back home, that’s usually what makes a good movie in my opinion. Even tho your review is different then what most people are saying, just having described how it stuck with you and came home with you really peaks my interest to see it more.

I really think when it comes down to marketing, people need to manage expectation because critics and regular viewers have a different minds when it comes to the movies rating, there are some movies also where the critics rating high and audience scores is low.

Similar experience. I’ve seen most horror movies this year later in the evening opening weekend and longlegs was by far the most packed crowd. The only other movie I’ve seen this year with as many people was Dune Part 2 which is extremely impressive to me that this many people are coming out to see the movie.

I feel like this film really utilized Nic’s Cageism’s that no movie has done before. When he started singing I laughed initially, but as he got more intense with the singing the music and sound started to get as intense as he did. It had you like “haha Nicolas Cage…. Oh god Nicolas Cage..” Edit: I take that first statement back, Mandy definitely did the same thing with his process of grief in the bathroom

Watched this one twice. The second time was more unsettling, as all of my hyped up expectations were gone. As for the psychic abilities, I took it as if it was connected to the doll, and I noticed, particularly during the second viewing, it popping up throughout the film

Hiii. I was one of the lucky few that saw the test screenings and also saw the movie in theaters. First things first..- I hear you… from a blind eye this film can come across as “flat” Second: the internal plot is DARK. Third: Nic Cage plays a character that’s a mix of buffalo bill meets pennywise. Conclusion: yes I agree that we needed more nic cage however, less is more. Also- there are many MANY things not mentioned in the final draft of the movie. All in all this is easily an annual rewatch.

As someone who just saw the movie, here’s my two cents when it comes to this being horror. Yes, the film is a horror film but that’s not all. If you go into this movie hoping to see the scariest movie of your life, maybe you’re disappointed. However, if you want a great thriller, detective, slow burning, fantastic characters, fantastic camera work, and elements of horror that drive the movie…you will love it!
