Thanks Gisli. I just decided it was time to either stop it or take a break, sit down and read up on how to do it better. It results in fewer films, but now I actually plan ahead and film a cohesive info-sequence rather than just documenting my shooting. I wanted to bring the education and usefulness up to a level where you might get enough info in one episode to understand a principle.

Top footage on the scope cam and with the tips, I learnt to use my thumb on the back as I found equal pressure on both back of stock and trigger made it more precise, shame my new 308 won't let me do it! Made for people with little hands 😉 top job 👍

Yes, on the Y axis. It doesn't make much of a difference, but it stops "dipping" the reticle as it can be hard to do a trigger pull truly in line with the barrel with a hunting stock.

The considerable amount of information in this video is almost as condensed as that grouping on the target. A friend of mine doing military service was a poor shot. Being young and foolish, annoyed for missing the target, went up close to the target and discharged his pistol close range. After a while he heard the officer's voice: 'Who did this?', and prepared himself for the worse. He got top marks. The officer had not seen his capers...

Nice one, but the main trick here is 6XC. It have small recoil, easy to shoot. Put your .338 norma magnum tube and try repeat that accuracy. On magnums and bullets more than 190grn the consistency of recoil pad contact and shoulder pressure is more significant than thumb position.
@THLR
@THLR 6 жыл бұрын
Already have. A lot more demanding, as you say recoil makes it a lot more demanding and absolute perfection in the position is a must.

MrFREDANG It should be as it essentially is an improved 243. I liked my old 243 very much, but it wasn't too good for LR targets. Now I get the target shooting, hunting and 243 feel in the same cartridge.

Unfortunately some of these techniques, particularly the thumb and trigger finger can’t be applied to a pistol grip type platform. Excellent video.
@THLR
@THLR 6 жыл бұрын
Agree. This is basically a technique for emulating the results you get as default from a pistol grip stock.
@tobiasfilander2708

Thanks for great videos! Both entertaining and crisp in information. Now when you have had the R8 Ultimate for a while, how do you think it compares to the R8 Professional? Worth the upgrade?
@THLR
@THLR 3 жыл бұрын
Well the effect on my hunting has been zero difference, I suspect every hunting shot taken with the Ultimate also would have been taken equally well with the Professional stock. I'm seeing the biggest difference (it is still small) on my target shooting, where shots are both longer and a lot higher volume. It really is easier to shoot well when using the fitted Ultimate stock, I shoot better and don't spend as long "finding" the correct position where pressures etc is ok. When my hand grip the Ultimate, everything is basically in the right place immideately. Especially when shooting in heather or marginal positions I notice a small difference/ higher level of confidence. But as I said, I see the difference mostly on the targets and it is predominantly consistency rather than raw precision which I find is better. So if I didn't invest so much time on the targets I probably wouldn't bother with the upgrade. My Professional killed the deer the same way my Ultimate does, and once the stock is adjusted I'm not really interested in the adjustability (I've partly glued the stock in place now just to eliminate a theoretical error). I don't know if this made all sense, ask again if you need clarification and I'll try to formulate differently.

Ha Ha you are not doing this to make money or sponsor anything. People can watch and learn and make their own decisions. I live in Canada 🇨🇦 and have always been fascinated by the European shooting world which is mostly way out of my price range. All of the various arms manufacturers here make very good stuff reasonably priced. It’s extremely competitive. With practise you can make pretty ordinary equipment work for you. I never had very much money growing up but l loved to go hunting and shooting. My very first high power rifle was the good old no4 mk1 Lee Enfield service rifle in .303 Brit. $35.00 dollars😂🇨🇦🤠

Sorry, no. Too many variables and I have insufficient data. It would be a hardware error with scope not aligned with barrrel Z axis (pointing off to the side by a very small degree), it could be scope tracking, it could be shooter error via thumbball. Good luck!

What is your recomendation for less expensive scope for semi long range and not too heavy? Do you have 2-3 recomendations?

Tenebraex are the best I've used. Lacking those, I have Vortex lens caps on my new Blaser optic. Aadmount is probably good too. I try to avoid Butler Creek, they break too often. I also avoid aluminum/ magnet closure caps. The snap-shut constructions seems to keep more debris and water out.
