I have owned lots of tractors . Fords , new Holland’s , John Deere’s and kubota. But, from my experience , the 300 series Massey is the best bullet proof easy to drive fuel efficient tractor ever built of tractors with non cabs.

The 90's Massey Ferguson's 300 ,3000, 3100, 3600 series are great tractors . I have a 3000 series 3070. I grew up with using the 100 and 200 series Massey Ferguson's . The Perkins Diesel engine is very reliable and has a lot of low end torque. My favorite Massey Ferguson tractors are the 35. 65 ,97-8, 135 , 165, 180 , 1130, 265, 285, 383, 3070, 3095, 3125, 3690. ,

Massey Ferguson tractors made at the Coventary Plant UK 🇬🇧 are the most popular and reliable tractors around the world. I own an Ex-NZ MF165 2wd A4.248 engine tractor working on our sugarcane farms since 2013.

I think they went broke in the 90's, like many others, ND AGCO salvaged them, and had to rationalise everything. The French govt made it so cost prohibitive to close their plant there, that they shut down Coventry. Harry Ferguson would be disgusted!

The 365 4wd was a poor performer, bought iit against the 390 as wanted a good slope/bank working here in Wales. Adding dual wheels to the rear and 4wd engauged there was very little power left even to climb back up a bank, let alone have any light pto implement. However like most Uk built MF tractors it was really well balanced . Fuel tank up front good but vibration use to break the fuel line, untill I affected my own mod.The stuttle lever ex factory would rid a finger and nail badly ,as yhe action between the steering wheel and the plastic knob,as you partly swung around in the seat to reverse ( topping or similar). small cab but ir was a small tractor . It was otherwise a safe tractor but lacked the grunt of say DB 1394 whish was too heavy for that type of work. The Rep at the time tried to get me into the 390 instead of 365 ,but I thought I knew better . 390t was the tool with the correct rear wheels and tyres complete with low profile cab. .

365 is a small tractor to have a cab & duals on !!! Sounds more like you overloaded the tractor more so than it being a poor performer. The 383 would’ve been a much better choice, I would’ve even taken it over the 390T. In my opinion the 383 & 399 were the 2 best tractors of the 300 series, great power to size ratio, great fuel economy & practically bulletproof. The right tool for the job matters. It’s kinda hard to fault the tool when you know it’s not the right one for the job to begin with. A 365 is only a 50 something Hp tractor, that’s a 50 something Hp tractor that was 4wheel-drive, had a cab & duels on it. Well that along is where all of your power went. Probably even had a front end loader on it too, right ???? That’s not exactly what I would classify as being a poor performer, that would tend to fall under the category of overloaded !!! In my personal experience with the different make, model & brands of tractors you typically can get by with just a little bit smaller MF tractor than what you can with most other brands, just simply because the MF are usually a little underrated when it comes to the advertised Hp rating of the tractor when compared to most other brands. Yet even still, you were asking for a herculean task out of that 365 with having all of that added extra on a tractor that’s only factory rated at 50 something Hp. After all of that added extras, you still had to figure in the fact that you were working uphill, along with the fact that the implements used were also gonna rob Hp away from the tractor as well. You said that the dealership tried to get you to step up to a bigger tractor because of what you were wanting to do with it, but you instead chose to go against their better judgment on the matter and went with the wrong tool for the job because it left more money in your pocket at the end of the day !! I’m sorry but that doesn’t make the tractor a poor performer, that only makes your choice of which tractor to buy for the job poor !!! I mean it appears that you were told going into that deal that you weren’t making the best decision on which tool to buy for the job, but you still bought it anyway. I’m sorry, but it’s kinda hard to fault the tractor on that deal. I mean you were told before you even bought it that it wasn’t gonna do what you wanted to use it for, that one is on you !!! It’s like the old saying goes, “It’s better to have it & not need it, than what it is to need it & not have it” !!! When in doubt, always go bigger, the dealership even tried to tell you to do it !!! You sound a lot like my daddy, buy something even after being told it wasn’t the right tool for the job, then turnaround and bitch about it after it does exactly what you were told it would do before you even bought it !!!! I don’t mean to sound like a smartass or anything like that, but that one was 100% on you, not the tractor !!!

We made MF in the uk ,we know as customers a great deal about them too having all started with Ford 9n and on through . Thosr tractors you talk about are proably export models or French built. 1990 365 os about 68hp in two wheel drive form and in uk you had to have a cab by that date. We really welcomef the 390t but with all rims and fatter tyres than standard. When we were not using our MF tractors in extreme hill side conditions I would be on my MF painted Landini crawler which was power by the greater 188 engine. The 365 really needed a turbo but Perkins had'nt really designed that the 165 engine for that. I am now 70yrs old and retired from such work but ,I think you may not have my experience or hrs in the seat so your advise is really is not founded.never the lessmy kind regards. and do'nt buy green!

Evan Espin my neighbors owned the 42 and 43 series and you are right. After 43 series, they went to crap . I had the pleasure of owning the first 5445 open station ever shipped to America . Wanted a 43 series, but couldn’t get one . The 5445 was the biggest piece of shit I ever owned .

The 4300 series was nothing more than a fancy version of the 4200 series, they were produced at the same time. The 4300 series had more electronics on it than what the 4200 series did, as they were still mainly mechanical tractors. It’s not just the MF tractors though, it’s all of them. The more electronics that’s being put on them, the more problems people are having out of them. Think about it for a second here, you’re putting electronics in the worst possible setting for them you can by having them on a tractor. Dirty, dusty, wet, oily, rough ground, hot, vibration, long term continuous & so forth. You name it, if it’s a bad environment for electronics, well at some point & time you will encounter that exact type of environment with a tractor at some point in time !!! Don’t get me wrong now, all of that stuff is nice to have, but it also leads to a lot more trouble out of your tractor long term that you used to not have out of them. Most of the tractors produced today aren’t a once in a lifetime purchase anymore like they use to be. Most of the ones produced today need to be replaced every 10 to 15 years tops !!! When you start having electrical issues out of them, well it’s time for it to go, because they don’t stop, they just continue to get worse & more expensive to keep up. On a mechanical tractor it doesn’t matter, you can still crank it & use it regardless of whether everything works right or not on it !!! That can’t be said about the newer ones that have all of the electronics on them. When you bought a tractor in the 1970’s, 1980’s & most of the 1990’s, well those were pretty much lifetime purchases, that’s not so much the case nowadays outside of a very few mechanical tractors that are still being produced today, with the majority of them only being smaller tractors. It’s the same way with vehicles as we all know. I have an old 1997 Chevrolet 2500 I bought new in 1997. That truck has just enough electronics on it to where it always runs good, unlike the carbureted vehicles before it, but still not enough electronics on it to where the common man can’t still work on it. I also have newer diesel truck that’s pretty much loaded out, you name it, it’s got it on it. I literally could’ve bought 5 of those 1997 trucks new for what that last new truck I bought cost me !!! I’ve already had twice as much trouble out of that newer truck than what I’ve ever had of that old truck. Every bit of it has all been electrical related issues. Theses no way in hell that truck will ever last as long as what that older truck has, there’s absolutely no way that will ever happen. I mean hell I’ve already spent more in repairs on it than what I ever have on that old truck !! The newer tractors are the exact same way, it doesn’t matter what make, model or brand it is, it’s the exact same issue with everyone of them !!!
