Some call it a flying saucer, others call it a concrete and steel spider. No matter what people flying in call it, the amazingly recognizable LAX Theme Building always catches their eyes.

When Host International used to run the airport gift shops & restaurants, there was an employee cafeteria in the basement of that historic building. It was open 24/7 and as a Host employee you were entitled to meal allowances, 2 per day, and you could eat at the restaurants in the terminals or go to the cafeteria. And the food was so good! I used to go on my days off just for the pancakes!!!

Why is the observation area closed down? For Pete's sake, the top floor of the parking garages around the Theme Building are almost that height. They're not closed. What's the security issue? To have it designated as an historic landmark, and then not using it for anything, makes no sense.

I used to eat here about once a year, typically for my birthday. The observation deck was amazing.....

I still say we need to disassemble the Theme Bldg. and move it to the top of the dunes near the beach on the west side of the airport so it really becomes a landmark. Leaving it in the center of the airport is just resulting in it getting buried among construction projects and parking garages. That would also make it accessible without getting tied up in airport traffic. Think of all the selfies that would be take from that observation deck? You could have the airport in the background, or the ocean, or Malibu, or Palos Verdes. All from the same vantage point. You could create underground parking for hundreds and enter from the existing interchange that connects World Way West and Pershing. This just makes so much sense to me. And oh yes, on the vacant footprint left behind, you could build yet another short term parking structure which could probably generate enough income to fund the whole endeavor.

Ontario airport has potential to become as a Newark airport in New York area, Ontario keeps getting more flights, and I think southwest and Alaska airlines can get pretty big there.
