I used to look after a mother and her babies. One day it was so hot she was hanging half out of the nest with her arms wide trying to cool down and I started spraying the hose near her and she went into the water and started bathing herself!!! She was wiping the water all over her and drinking too. She even washed her armpits, it was so amazing and beautiful. I miss her. I hope her descendants are doing good.

My neighbors and I hang out outside a lot and one day we heard this plop and scattering, well a baby raccoon fell out of the tree in the front yard so I grabbed it and tried to get it to cling onto the tree the whole time the mama was hissing at me, so eventually it gripped the tree and I backed up, mama ran and got it, put it back in its nest, then came half way down the tree and stared at me, then left.

We used to have a lot of them when we was kids growing up. My dad grand Terre Haute shelter, and we would go rescue amount of peoples houses and stuff. They are very smart. They are very clean that one’s probably hissing like that because it’s probably got hurt and being that young scared in a different environment, they do make very good pets and they very clean. It’s so cute when you hand them some cotton candy and watch them because everything they eat they clean they always stick it in water and clean it before they eat it and they reaction when they get cotton candy and dipping in the water and it disappears is so cute.

Jesus, I adore your compassion, but that's dangerous. They have an unsavory probability of carrying rabies. I wouldn't take that chance, especially with the young. Mother's typically pass it to their pups and it can lay dormant in the species.

I had 4 in a hollow tree at the edge of yard last summer, their mom didn’t come back. (My dog can smell wildlife from a block away and tells me when they are in the yard, so I would def know). They woke up around 8pm every night and did their rounds. We sometimes saw them getting back home just after dawn, but they were usually back in the tree by 7am. They were SO cute… but also…. They’re wild…. Their growls are terrifying. I ended up calling someone to trap them when they presented signs of malnutrition and dehydration.

@untitled-gv3qp
@untitled-gv3qp 5 ай бұрын
@@josegonzalescedillo2399 Isn't that sorta unethical to do? Because they wouldn't learn how to hunt, or avoid predators, or stay warm in the winter if you raise them indoors. And chances are they probably won't avoid people and most humans would shoot a large raccoon coming towards them. Wouldn't any raccoon you release into the wild just be doomed after that.

@@untitled-gv3qpIf you let a domesticated dog go. They tend to stay alive. They have it in their dna. Thats why dogs like squeeky toys. It triggers their hunting part. Like biting into a screaming baby rabbit.
@untitled-gv3qp
@untitled-gv3qp 5 ай бұрын
@@WendiKoff I don't think that's how that works. Dogs don't survive on the streets by hunting they live near people and go through trash for food. Even if they manage to survive like that it's still considered unethical to throw your pets out on the streets. Besides that stray dogs and cats have a different relationship with humans than a formerly domesticated raccoon would. People will leave food out for strays or even treat stray cats like outdoor pets. If people see a stray dog going through their trash then they'll shoo them away but a raccoon will get shot because people associate them with pests and disease. It's the same reason you're not supposed to feed bears. If they start seeing humans the way our pets see us they'll get bolder and start wandering into inhabited areas where it's likely they'll be harmed from anyone trying to protect themselves from the dangerous animal.

Racoona are amazing. I found one on the road at night. It was just spinning in place cars passing it. Me and my froend just wanted to at least move it off the road. It wouldnt let go of the blanket we used to wrap him up. So. We took him home for the night. Took care of him. Even though he was fully grown. We had just gone out for sushi and had a few left overs. Fed him that. Brought him to an animal sanctuary for the winter to be given proper help fpr his injury. And in spring i was asked to take him back and releaee him on my property. (100 acres of forest with rivers running throughout) when we let him go, he ran off a few feet, and looked back at us and stood there. Almost as if he was saying thankyou. Then he went straight for the water. I still think about that beautiful Racoon. Such intelligent animals its crazy. Anyway sorry about the entore book i just wrote lol 🇨🇦

We covered her in a dog igloo and placed the opening against the wall in the evenings and a heavy planter but raccoon did not give up. I had a situation where 1-month old baby raccoons kept falling from the top of my two-story house onto a concrete patio. On my moms birthday we froze over one year and the duck momma that had laid eggs in our front porch bushes left the nest after 10/12 eggs hatched and went to the pond across the street. The two remaining eggs hatched an hour or so later and couldnt find their mom, so they ran around our porch and squawked ag the door until my mom woke up and came outside. Being the first living thing the ducklings saw, they both went crazy for my mom like puppies. They came inside as soon as my mom opened the door so we adopted them and raised them in the bathtub and then the house then, once they were big enough the backyard and eventually they could fly and take care of themselves so they would stay at our house for a few hours then go visit their family at the pond next door. Ive moved out since then but i still see my two ducks, 'Happy' and 'Birthday', all around my old neighborhood on a regular basis. But never adopt a duck as an indoor prt unless you're ready for a pound of liquid fecal matter a day

We found an abandon baby raccoon. Raised it on a bottle until it was old enough to eat. When we got it was a new born. Eyes were not even open. But the mom and others were gone . One of the best pets we ever had. We took it for shots. The vet was afraid of her. She was almost an adult. We raised her with puppies. She love to go for rides in the car. Dad would have to put her in the apple tree and run to the car so we could leave. She thought she was a dog. Because of being raised with puppies. That was 1964. Still miss Gertrude today .

Racoons are symbiotic roundworm carriers... so hopefully you and your family like roundworms! Symptoms start about one year after infection. When the adult worm is ready to lay eggs, it comes out through the skin. A blister develops, usually on the legs or feet, and becomes an open wound. When that part of your body is submerged in water, the tip of the worm comes out to lay its eggs. Symptoms include pain and swelling at the site of the wound.

@@williambenner701Yeah, it's important to be aware that raccoons can carry rabies. I'm not certain on the risk of babies vs adults, but I wouldn't risk it. I do think it's important to celebrate the reaction, however, for the humans taking wise precaution but also for being kind. They didn't react by screaming at the baby and terrifying it beyond how scared it already was. Clearly. Like, they didn't grab a broom and instantly start swatting it in anger over the property damage. Which, unfortunately, is probably how most people in this situation would react. I'm a life-long animal rescuer and shelter volunterler and advocate for programs connecting senior humans with senior animals at low to no cost for the humans. I've personally only dealt with cats, 🐈 dogs, 🐕 and rabbits 🐇 but I have a soft heart for all animals, especially the very young and very old ones. So I appreciate this woman's kindness and concern for the baby taking precedence over (extremely understandable) anger over the damage to her home. The video cuts, but I'm 99% sure she and her husband (who was off getting gloves) followed through by calling wildlife authorities and didn't simply shove the scared little guy out the door. Good job, humans! ❤

This raccoon picked the right house to break into. This lady, and all people nice to animals, are awesome. After the eleventh hiss at her, she's like, "Ok, yeah, you're feisty, see ya."

What impressed me about this kind lady was the fact that she DIDN'T automatically try to pick it up and try to cuddle it. We see a tiny, awkward, little muggins but in Raccoon's mind he's a fearsome attack warrior and will rip your arms off! She's wise with animals and bless you, lady, for respecting animals. 😊

Reminds me of an abandoned baby raccoon I found on the side of a road years ago. When I reached to pick him up his reaction was similar, giving Tasmanian devil grunts and hisses. It initially made me back off and a second later I realized he had no teeth to hurt me. Got him home and bottle fed him for a few weeks. He was a fabulous furbaby friend I will always fondly remember.

@@shila8379 I had intended to raise mine for release but my vet said no. He told me if I was committed to raising it the animal would become too habituated to humans and upon release run the risk of being a nuisance raccoon, which would mean trap and euthanasia. I agree with you it is worth breaking the law to have a feral friend like a raccoon. They’re extremely intelligent and very entertaining.
