For a short time in 2012, Jeremy Lin ruled the world. The undrafted point guard out of Harvard who had spent his career on the fringes of the NBA, was now the biggest story in sports. With Carmelo Anthony out of the lineup, Lin led the New York Knicks on a seven game win streak to rescue their season. His meteoric rise captured the hearts of NBA fans across the world, and Jeremy Lin became a household name. Today we look back on the time when "Linsanity" ruled the world.

And Lin did it out of desperation not to get cut again. We have to remember that Jeremy did not ask for Linsanity & did not even know himself that it was coming. Just like him, Linsanity came out of nowhere, although technically he did not come out of nowhere. He was already known at Golden State Warriors as the hometown boy of the Bay area, who was a highschool player of the year yet did not get any scholarships, to have made it into the NBA in 2010.

That just goes to show how fucking insanely hard it is to be an NBA star or super star. Many, many guys have had brief runs where they looked awesome only to fall back to earth. Danny Green in the 2013 and 2014 post seasons, Cam Paine during the 2021 playoff run, and many many others. Most are just guys, only a few go on to become super stars who can do this repeatedly.

He could have been a great off-the bench spark if the league used him better. He wasn't super efficient, and he turned over too much to be a primary option long term. But he's the kind of player when your first scoring option is resting and everyone is cold, you plug him in. He can create his own shot, and that's always valuable.

He would have been a good starter for the right team but was in constant bad situations like the kevin mchale as his coach. Or Lakers tanking when he can be somewhere playing as a starter. Then 2 unfortunate injuries with the nets just derailed him. Just glad him to see a ring and recently drop 50 in taiwan

I think what melo meant by ridiculous is the poison contract. I love Jermey Lin, but Brian Winhorst said that that was back loaded. That’s why the Knicks didn’t match the offer cause it’s a low annual salary till the 3rd year then the guy would’ve started making over 14-15 million annually. And back then the salary cap wasn’t what it was today so to have a guy making 15 mil was pretty crazy if he wasn’t a consistent player.

There are 4 major moments that derailed Lin’s career. 1: The torn meniscus at the height of Linsanity, just horrible luck. When you are still trying to prove yourself, devastating injuries just cause a team to want to move on from you. 2 and 3 are kind of hand in hand: Carmelo’s jealousy and D’Antoni leaving. Melo fundamentally isn’t a winner. He always looks out for himself and his own scoring above team success. He isn’t good enough to be selfish as fuck and win like Kobe. And D’Antoni quitting paired with Melo being jealous was the death nail for him coming back to NY. Then he goes to Houston, Mike is there, Darryl Morrey specifically tells Lon that the team will be built around him. Everything is looking great for Jeremy. 4: OKC decides to trade James Harden to Houston and all of a sudden, a better version of the same position has just landed in Houston. Sorry Jeremy, but this is James’ team now. And he never got another shot with the right coach and right team for him to succeed.
