See, I remember the bugs. When CP2077 came out, and later after they fixed most of the issues with it, people were saying things like "If they can release a game like The Witcher 3 in a flawless state, there is no excuse for the way Cyberpunk came out." I'd reply that the game was pretty buggy, with at least 1 progression halting bug I fell victim to. Got excoriated. Everyone called me a liar, or if they were a bit more kind, that I must be mistaken or thinking about some other game. Kind of crazy how people remember only what they want to.

Yeah. I absolutely felt vindicated when I saw this. I remember losing a save to the permanent ursine cave glitch in skellige where the lever wouldn't work to open the gates (before knowing the workaround). Most people just simply covered their ears and blew raspberries in response to the bugs people listed in the original launch of the game (along with the classic "bUt tHaat nEvEr hApPeNeD tO mE"). It was very frustrating tbh

Yeah once that critical mass snowball got started, all the flaws got glazed over. Lack of NPC variety, a loot and level system that still doesn't make sense for anything but Witcher Gear and the number of times I read praise for the so-called bloody baron SIDEQUEST that is actually very much main quest. (Even it's sidequests are better than most games main quest!!) or Nan and her pan, which is literally just walk in a cabin and look at stuff with witcher senses, got so much praise. It's a great game, but it's not as great as people want to believe it is, we were starved for a quality rpg experience that wasn't a bethesda theme park experience game.

@@joanjobs4359bro I think you’re going off on your own thing from ops comment. The game was buggy and inventory has always been a problem(same with CP2077) the bloody baron mission was more to do with that’s when things clicked. The game was great and it has nothing to do with Bethesda.
@joanjobs4359

@@Chris-yv2iv I never said it was a bethesda game, I said there was a desire for an rpg that wasn't a bethesda game, as Luke mentioned the backlash to Fallout 4 may have led to more players jumping to Witcher 3. The rest of my comment was in line with op's "crazy how people only remember what they want to", echoing Luke's point about how a game's release is often forgotten or remembered more fondly than it was received initially. In general, it was about people's willingness to leap to the defense of a game they like with very selective bias and how it gets harder to criticize a game the more time passes. I still said the game was great, but it's not beyond critique.

this is why i never purchase games until long after the fact they have been out, the funny thing is even though they did a next gen update the classic still runs better, and on steam you can still go back and play that older version, it makes me wonder why bethesda doesn't allow such things when they make a broken ass update, they should offer the previous version on steam, instead you have to go to the nexus and install a complicated mod and follow some complicated steps to downgrade your game. like if it was just handled through steam, it wouldn't be an issue, but bethesda just don't think like CDPR when it comes to this stuff, i swear they are the most incompetent gaming company and never think shit through before they shit out their new updates.

I think I got fairly lucky in terms of encountering bugs at launch. I remember them being mainly visual bugs, some stuff popping in, and the famous Roach the Roof Horse teleportation bug. The only game breaking bug I encountered was one that caused the game to crash when I tried to go to Skellige for the first time. Hilariously this actually made me explore all of Velen first, so by the time it was fixed I was hilariously overleveled for the Skellige stuff. But I do remember seeing the bugs everyone else was experience and OH BOY were some of them rough.

i don't mind multiregionality of the world at all - this adds a sense of scale. cp77 is just one city and it doesn't suffer from being one area.skellige isles or kaer morhen shouldn't be 5 minutes swim or ride away from novigrad. and it actually helps making mods or expansions - you can easlily slap some toussent on even if it's supposedly far far away. in fact it would be possible to make one piece seamless remake of both w1 and w2 on the red engine.

The term that fits most is circle jerk. I know I didn't forget, I figured CDPR learned the wrong lessons from their goodwill PR and free DLC from Witcher 3, that they can release a broken game and win them back over time as well as cash in some of that goodwill from the witcher 3. The problem was people didn't really see them as the little (red) engine that could anymore and expected a little more polish and actually got far less, because those more corporate pressures and marketing costs were the driving force. I knew it was it in trouble the day they announced they were dropping the third person perspective entirely, they tried to sell it as immersion, but in a game so heavily marketed for it's character customization to go full first person all the time reeked of time saving to meet the release date. In other words, red flag, red flag.

I've played Cyberpunk 2077 since launch and never encountered a game breaking bug on PC. However, I've encountered game breaking bugs on well beloved games that are supposedly polished like GTA 5 - Jeweler on a main mission won't appear, and won't appear no matter how much I reload the game. A bug that also won't let me progress through the main mission is what made me uninstall Far Cry 3.

I didn’t play the Witcher 3 until at least late 2017 so most of the bugs had been ironed out (except for a couple for side quests. Nothing game-breaking). Othewise, it seemed fine. When the next gen update came out, though, some roughness started to show. A common bug I ran into on console was the purple cobwebs glitch. And then there were the ‘disappearing saves’ glitch…that particular one was awful.

Yeah, I've been saying this since Cyberpunk 2077 released. CDPR makes fantastic games but they have yet to have a smooth launch on consoles. The Witcher 3 was about as bad as Cyberpunk was and it was on PS4 and Xbox One when they were relatively new consoles. I specifically remember the Crookback Bog quest was bugged for me, Roach would randomly disappear, and it ran at like 20fps. It was not a great experience at launch but is one of my favorite games ever now, as is Cyberpunk 2077.

Witcher 3 PC was reasonably fine for a western RPG, far worse on consoles and it had performance issues. Most of the bugs and issues were fixed pretty early in the first couple of weeks of launch, they rolled out the patches faster than Larian with BG3 in fact. I think the reason people don't talk about it as many people didn't start playing it until much later. CDPR did a good job post launch to squash the bugs as fast as they could. But I remember the performance issues at the beginning, which they fixed pretty quickly thankfully. Witcher 3 was not any worse than say BG3 or any other Western RPGs, western RPGs having a lot of bugs is kinda the norm as unfortunate as that sounds. Compared to Bioware, WItcher 3 was the most polished rpg launch. I'm not even gonna mention Bethesda. Dragon Age inquision was far more buggy and had far more issues at launch, and then 6 months later Witcher 3 launched which had some bugs but nowhere near as bad as Bioware games had issues. Cyberpunk was a different case, because there were far more fundamental issues with the engine and needed a lot more work to make it stable.

People are far more willing to forgive games for being buggy and broken if they’re able to still have a good time playing them in spite of those bugs. It’s not just The Witcher 3 or CDPR, this was the same for Bethesda for a long time. Despite being total messes, stuff like Skyrim, Oblivion, and Fallout: New Vegas were still heavily praised and went on to be remembered for what they did right rather than what they did wrong. The only reason that’s changed in mordern times, beginning with Fallout 76, is due the games being perceived as no longer feeling “magical” like they did in the past. FromSoftware is also in this boat. They’ve been releasing broken PC ports pretty regularly for years. Not just Dark Souls 1, but also Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring, and Shadow of the Erdtree. Even now, most of the negative reviews that ciriticize the performance issues with SotE have been largely buried underneath the heated discussion of whether the content is too hard and not fun. Proof that people care more about having a good time than if the expansion is put out in a functional state, which is very ironic when people then go on to constantly complain about games being released broke and buggy. I’m sure Cyberpunk is also going to shed its bad reputation from launch day as time goes on, because now people are enjoying playing it, and that’s what actually matters for the majority of the gaming community.

I'm playing again, first time since pre-DLC release, and I've had to reload a few times. So far it has been because I was stuck in the map, bug of diving now working, and movement controls not responding. There have also been 3 or 4 crash to desktop. All of these were over a full playthrough and close to half of a NG+. Enemy upscaling (enemies are your level or higher) is a must to keep the game interesting. Witcher 3 Death March with just food and some potions on tough boss fights is perfectly doable. The secret is 'Gourmet' from Blood and Wine that makes food last 20 minutes. That and don't get hit or have Quen up.
@mattandrews2594
@mattandrews2594 Ай бұрын
Enemy scaling is *the* laziest way to incorporate difficulty into a game. And most games think it's a good idea to just tie it to the player level and call it a day, when certain skill upgrades aren't even combat related. The better way is always to just have high level enemies that remain a challenge no matter your level.

A complicated game like the Witcher 3 is gonna have bugs on release. Bethesda released different game with same known bugs.. hell even the same game with the same broken shit over and over again.
